Another issue is that after the V5.4B update, when turning the XMC-1 ON, I'm getting audio and no video sometimes. I need to switch inputs to get video. It happens randomly. HDR/DV banding fixed and another bug got in.... My XMC-1 is set on Video On Standby. I'm switching to Low Power Mode to see if that fix it. But the 60 secs waiting is very annoying....
Update: Low Power mode didn't fix the issue. I didn't have this issue when I was running V5.3. At least not that frequently.

I have 5.3 and using video standby. Prior to 5.3 I was constantly having to switch inputs to get sound to come on when powering on. That was 95% solved with 5.3. Now, occasionally I will have no sound or picture on power up and switching inputs does not work. I have to use the back panel rocket switch to fix the problem.

I get this all the time with the MC-700, but it used to be worse. Later firmware solved it as long as the MC is powered on before the other devices. It was the same with the UMC's; seems to be consistent with their HDMI methodology.

I found the fix for mine. I had Xfinity HD box as Power ON source and changed it to ATV 4K which is always ON and the problem of no video when Power ON is gone. Like others have reported, Xfinity cable boxes have issues with the XMC-1 when they are set as Power On source.

Reading through the various HDMI bd issues is not giving me a warm & fuzzy to buy a XMC-1 I've got HDMI issues as it is, don't need more.

The only issue I have is rarely I'll lose the picture when switching from DirecTV HLG HDR to a normal HD/SD channel. I was able to determine a fix - power down and power up the TV.
My point is that HDMI is such a mess that any of the devices in the chain can be the cause of the problem.
My enjoyment and statisfaction of using the XMC-1 has gone way up since the 4k board was installed.

Maybe once every couple of weeks I have to do a warm restart when the cable box has a hiccup, not ever with the ATV4K or the BD player, they work every time. Cheers Gary

I stated my opinion of HDMI a couples days ago and stand by those remarks. Once again politics wins out over science.

Got an email from Lonnie 30 mins ago with Firmware V5.4 (Beta) and after doing some quick testing, I can say that HDR and Dolby Vision banding with ATV 4K are gone for good in both of my displays, Sony X930E and LG HDR Monitor. I'll be doing some more testing these coming days hopping this is a permanent fix. Not sure if I can share this firmware with others so I asked Lonnie to ask Keith to post it here in the Lounge. Thanks Lonnie for fixing the HDR/DV Banding bug!!! Happy Thanksgivings to all of you guys!! I’m happy to report that, like Enrico, the 5.4 “beta” that Lonnie provided us has fixed my issue with banding in HDR content from the ATV4K. I can also confirm that the Dirac speaker preset is not available (visible) in the menu. Like Enrico previously said, it “is” there and is selectable when using the XMC-1 app. This is a glitch in the 5.4 beta that I will also report back to Support. At this point, I’m just happy to have my XMC-1 back in my system in a usable condition. Many thanks to Lonnie and the team for getting this sorted out...

Could you please reflash the XMC-1 with V5.4B to see if you get the same error I got? It won't cause any harm, just at the end the XMC-1 is going to ask you to reboot and all will be back to normal after reboot. You can also do what I did which is install V5.3 and you will get Dirac back on the menu but the HDMI version will remain the same as for V5.4B as the XMC-1 won't be able to finish the firmware update when it reach the HDMI Version update.

Doc, never mind. I did reflash with V5.4B and this time it did complete the whole firmware update. I'm running now full V5.4B with the missing Dirac Preset on Speaker menu but accesible via XMC Remote App.
BTW, just found out that you can also select Dirac Preset using the XMC-1 IR remote (the black aluminum brick) pressing the "Speaker Preset" button. The only problem with V5.4B is if you need to run Dirac Live as you won't be able to change speaker sizes, crossovers and levels as Dirac Live preset menu is hidden.

The banding in my case with the ATV4K is quite diminished with v5.4, and now I have to look quite hard for it. Thus far, I'm not seeing it with any content on the Oppo UDP-203, but I'll keep looking for it with different movies. I have also discovered that when playing DTS-HD MA 5.1 sources the display shows "Reference Stereo" as the DSP mode when the 5.1 mode in the Input menu is set to "AUTO". The sound doesn't change so I'm thinking this is a Display error. Because DIRAC isn't visible in the "Speaker Preset" thus not available in the UI, the size(small/large), subwoofer choices and surround choices aren't available, though the DIRAC filters are active. Thus definitely some bugs that I believe will be easily fixed.

Seems odd a fix for banding would break other, seemingly unrelated, things. Hopefully they'll be a cleaned-up official release soon, though don't know what resources are like with the RMC-1 rollout underway.

Changing code can easily cause side effects elsewhere, not uncommon. The file size is also 1 meg bigger, which indicates to me more complexity.
