My XMC-1 NIC was acting a bit flaky so I went ahead and took the plunge. Trade-in process took about 11 days, but it was pretty much all UPS ship time. Emotiva received, inspected, and shipped in a few hours time on a Friday so no complaints there. XMC-2 is working well so far (other than slower HDMI lock times compared to the 1.4 board), but it will probably be a while before I can get everything dialed in again.

Will there be a time limit on when and what can be upgraded, like the 40% discount where we were under the impression that it will last forever but it has ended?
Or when someone decide to upgrade but XMC-2 no longer in production?
Thanks

Will there be a time limit on when and what can be upgraded, like the 40% discount where we were under the impression that it will last forever but it has ended? Or when someone decide to upgrade but XMC-2 no longer in production? Thanks The answer to your question can be found within the first four posts of this thread (page 1 > posts 1 and 4). As for “what”, only XMC-1’s that were purchased new, and at full price at the time of purchase, were ever eligible for trade in. Factory Refurbished, or other units that are considered to be promotionally disqualified (B-Stock for example), are not eligible for the upgrade program. Additionally, all subsequent owners of “qualified” units must have had the ownership properly transferred through Emotiva prior to the warranty expiration date. But to address your “overall” question, it’s a safe bet that Emotiva will not let this upgrade program drag out for 11 years like they did with the discount cards. It’s also a safe bet that you will be given plenty of time to decide whether to utilize the upgrade program or choose a different path.

As for “what”, only XMC-1’s that were purchased new, and at full price at the time of purchase, were ever eligible for trade in. To me the official page reads different: emotiva.com/blogs/news/xmc-1-to-xmc-2-trade-in-and-upgrade-programI quote: Please note the following important details:
1) To be eligible for this upgrade, you must be the current owner of a working XMC-1, with a valid warranty registered in your name. That includes anyone who has purchased their XMC-1 directly from us, anyone who has purchased their XMC-1 from one of our authorized dealers or distributors, and anyone who purchased their XMC-1 used, from a legitimate owner, and has had the warranty transferred to their name.*
Pricing:
The standard upgrade price for trading in your XMC-1 for a new XMC-2 will be USD $1000.00 – plus shipping.
(This is the same as the planned combined cost of the XMC-1 HDMI 4k and XMC-1 Dolby Atmos upgrade boards.)
- This upgrade is available to all current XMC-1 owners, regardless of how you obtained your XMC-1, as long as your XMC-1 has a valid warranty registered in your name.
- If you purchased your XMC-1 for the full retail price of $2499, and it included the latest 4k HDMI 2.0b video option at the time you purchased it (the v3 HDMI 2.0b video option), you will be eligible to trade it in for a new XMC-2 for $601.00 plus shipping.
- If you initially purchased your XMC-1 with the original HDMI 1.4b video option, or the older single-input 4k video card, and later purchased the latest 4k HDMI 2.0b video upgrade
(the v3 HDMI 2.0b video option) separately for it at a cost of $399, you will be eligible to trade it in for a new XMC-2 for $601 plus shipping.
So I interpret this that as someone who bought directly from Emotiva but using my UFL discount, I am eligible for the trade in. I bought a brand new XMC-1 with full warranty, imho that´s what matters, not the price.

Refurbished or B-Stock units (which are discounted by Emotiva prior to purchase) do not qualify for the upgrade program. So, yes, the price of the unit itself does matter. Upgrade cardholders or UFL discounts are not considered "pre-discounts" and those purchasers (like you and myself) are eligible for the upgrade program if the " eligible" XMC-1 was purchased as described.

So, assuming I have xmc-1 which was paid in full retail price it is unlikely Emotiva will honor an upgrade when XMC-2 (this implies RMC-1 and RMC-1L also) stop production.
That is fine IF the current XMC-2 /RMC have a stable platform and hence encouraging people to upgrade

My XMC-1 dates from 2015 (hence no more warranty?), is it still eligible for the trade-in to XMC-2?

That is excellent, so relieved!
The upgrade bug has bitten me once again after a few years of dealing with other things in life. I was gutted to learn Emotiva had ended the 40% off the next processor system. Since I was away from the Lounge, I had no idea. Decidedly not cricket IMO.

I've been wondering how the house project came along. I assume it's done by now. Would love to see pictures. Mark

It's been very difficult on many levels, but such is life.

Mark Thank you for your kindness, Mark. At least my ex and I are now back on speaking terms, which is a relief. Especially as we have 2 adult children. Life is short.

Just got a confusing email about a special limited time offer about the trade in, it says if you currently own a working XMC-1 there is a limited time offer that you can trade it in, yet the fine print still reads you need to be an owner with the warranty in your name, so really it's just the same trade in deal that has been going on for over a year now I'm guessing, just sort of misleading from how it reads ??

I would assume it's the same trade in deal as always but the way it was worded sounds like for anyone who owns one haha.
