Seems quiet lately about this little bugger....I read about the guy thinking about running them with a pair of the new LRS's from Magnepan.....haven't come across his results. Read some reviews, one by a esteemed member that often posts on the Lounge. So what's the deal, is it possible these little buggers could sound better than my XPA-2 gen 1 running my ERT 8.3's?? Would they have enough, um....balls to make them rock?? I'm curious, and to be honest have no idea about the class D power amp thing. Moving soon and looking at options to possibly get away from 70lb amps. Anyone using these to power full size speakers?? Any info. would be great. Thx.

I've been looking hard at a pair of these as well for my T1, everyone wants so much for old amps years out of warranty these look better and better everyday, should have bought them when I ordered the T1 at 20% off sale during Axpona, ever bit helps being north of the border Currently would cost me $804 plus whatever taxes, tariffs and fees Chad

You could probably find one of these for around the price you are talking, already on the right side of the border, as Mike built them all out of his home in BC. One of those amps will blow a pair of 300AS-based PA-1s into the weeds.

Yeah with the current exchange rate for us it's highly unlikely I will be buying anything south of the border, is this an amp he builds and sells on a regular basis ? I have a buddy that lives in Kelowna. Chad

I have a buddy that lives in Kelowna. Chad Mike built all he’s gonna build at this point, but they show up from time to time used. He lives in Kelowna. Google 1200AS2 ICEedge to read more. This is the new generation of ICE Class D launched in late 2017. It is not the last word in SQ, but well beyond the 300AS prior-gen module Emo used in the PA-1 that had its architecture designed in the aughts. Still small, light, and far more powerful.

Two slightly different tonal flavors both excellent in the best amps I’ve heard. Xpa2 has a bit more bass and “heft”. The pa1 sounds slightly nicer/ clearer in soundstage coming off very fast in dynamics. You don’t feel like you’re missing details with them. They need to be left turned on for best sound imo

I thinks I found his page, oh man I would have totally been up for the 700AS2 at $549 built assuming those are in Canadian funds ?? lol www.miveraaudio.com/forum/flash-sale-thread/budget-icepower-1200as2-amp-blowout

I think the PA-1’s are very good amps, and with the ERT’s should give plenty of umph (you should be able to get them over 110 dB!). I hear ya looking for something lighter, that’s exactly why I gave them a shot.

That’s it. The one you found is in his custom case, so prices were somewhat higher. He also made one in a thinner, off-the-shelf case by Takachi which was the least expensive option. I think it weighed in the neighborhood of 10 or 12 pounds (stereo module), about the size of a typical “small” pizza box, puts out very little heat. I had two of them. As mentioned before, these originated out of Canada, so I’m sure there are still quite a few up there that could come up for sale, given so many folks’ penchant for wanting to try something new. Note that the 1200AS modules are the only ones (yet) based on the new ICEEdge chipset. I hope something shows up for you.

Just purchased a pair of PA-1's and the RK-1 rack kit at a really great price, they will be here next week, I will try my best at some point in doing a side by side comparison with the PA-1 and UPA-1 to the T1 but it may be awhile until I actually have time, I'm working the next 25 of 26 days ughhhhh so spare time will be at a very very minimum haha. I will of course leave them on for a few days first as that seems to be recommended though I'm not sure what takes that amount of length in time to change physically to alter the sound ??
I'm looking forward to finding out if I can hear any difference and if so what I will actually prefer.

Chad I finally got around to hooking mine up a week or so ago......they are powering my ERT 8.3's. To be honest, they sound just as good as what the XPA-2 Gen 1 was putting out, at least to my ears they do, which is all that matters I reckon.....and they weight about 5lbs. total compared to the hernia in a box XPA-2. I also have not shut them off since originally powering them on.....there is no heat to speak of & they probably don't use much power sitting idle. Good luck with the new amps.....let us know how it goes, Cheers!!

What is the deal with these D amps having only balanced connections? In this case probably cost, and adapters are cheap if you need them.

I plan to order a pair in the next couple of weeks. Though if Emotiva were to offer a monoblock amp with the 700AS1 board (the PA-2?) I'd snap up a pair of those in a heartbeat!
