Hi folks, First post here. In my house I did cabling for 9.2.4 in small room ( basement ), although all cables are 2-wire cables ( each channel is less than 10m in lenght ): www.thomann.de/gb/sommer_cable_magellan_240.htmMy preffered AV Processor would be XMC-2/RMC-1L and additionally Emotiva amplifiers ( XLR to XLR and then speakers amplification outs with 2-wire cables ), but I need to connect subwoofers with unbalanced cables. Is Emotiva doing an XLR to RCA adapter, which can be used with these AV processors to connect subs with unbalanced cables? Thanks

Respectfully, I chose my options carefully as I’m only trying to get opinions from those who are considering an Emotiva SSP, and hence are interested in Home Theatre. I don’t mind occasional discussion or comparison to other brands (Marantz and Monoprice come up regularly), but the thread was to see what processor people are/were considering, and to help them choose. Just because we find problems doesn’t mean we don’t spend a lot of time enjoying our systems, I can’t tell you how much I’m enjoying Atmos, my wife too, and we’re watching movies and series more than ever. There’s no reason you can’t start a “two channel rules” thread, I’m sure you’ll get audiobill , pedrocols and others (probably me too) to join in, but to come here and try to dump on Home Theatre is out of place. Kinda like if I went to your DIY cable thread and tried to convince people they should just buy cables and give up on making them, they’ll never be as good. It would be improper in a DIY thread to dump on DIY (not to mention I make my own). I’m listening to my two channel system now, it sounds great (just put my VTL’s back in), and I’m using the RMC-1 as a preamp. So if you do make that thread, you’ll have to put up with someone who has a ‘blended family’. 🤷♂️🙂 You are such a smart cookie! Quotation marks have just saved you from trademark infringement...😂🤣 Two Channel Rules!!!™ Yeah - I hear ya' (and I was NOT trying to dump on / poo-poo your thread) I am STILL as confused as ever about what direction to go for my new 2-Ch Pre-Amp, and one of the options I am STILL considering is the (Factory Re-Furb special) XMC-1 - mainly for "Reference Stereo" mode and it gives me a way to experiment with an occasional foray into basic 2.1 / 3.1 HT and possible Room Correction vs other "Pure-Analog" options. Problem is that in my area, there are not too many good ways to audition different types of equipment (Most of the stuff that one finds in the Milwaukee area is either cheap run-of-the-mill stuff or VERY costly stuff geared towards "serious audiophiles" - It seems like the "Value" stuff in the middle is either too expensive for the average Milwaukeean or too plebeian for the other group....)

There is absolutely nothing special about the adapter - and it is a low-cost passive device.
We will probably be offering both adapters and adapter cables in the future.
In the mean time, we are literally talking about a $10 passive adapter, which can be purchased online, or from a store like Musician's Friend. (You can also get a cable with the appropriate connector on each end and avoid using a separate adapter.)

Hope you enjoy the stay. 👋 Both those choices will give you identical features, with the RMC-1L eeking out a bit more performance (literally ... bits), slightly better connectors, and some polish. As mentioned adapters/cables are cheap and easy.

The refurb price is damn good, so it deserves consideration with other preamps in that price range, as well as the features and flexibility you mentioned. I haven’t followed the stereo preamp scene since I sold my ARC and started using the XMC-1 as a 2C preamp too, but I’m sure there are some good choices.

Honestly, HTIT, if you pared back I'd bet the VTLs and Maggies would be the very last to go - by a long shot.
Am I right, the rest is just fluff?

@keithl you should mention an obvious similarity, both still lack Dirac! 😏🥺 He wasn’t asked for the similarities. KeithL , what are the similarities? There, ya happy now? 😏😁

Everything you need to know about DSD...... This is all ENTIRELY DIFFERENT than the ability to output or accept DSD via a USB connection. That uses a whole separate standard - which may or may not be supported by your disc player or other source and may or may not be supported by your processor. (The standard is called "DoP" - which stands for "DSD-over-PCM" - which can, at least theoretically, also be done over connections other than USB.) Many computer-based player programs support DoP - including Foobar2000 and jRiver Media Center - although it may require special configuration or special drivers to get it to work. VERY few hardware players currently support DoP (I don't know of one - but I'm sure there are a few.) The XMC-1 does NOT support DSD via DoP (USB). The XMC-2, RMC-1, and RMC-1L DO support DoP via USB - up to and including double speed (although we haven't tested it extensively yet and nobody has been asking about it). ... And there's also Native DSD over USB. (Sometimes called "DSD Direct" and others "Direct DSD".) These allow for higher DSD rates with the same underlaying USB bandwidth. The XMOS USB Receiver in user by Emotiva's latest platforms (RMC-1, XMC-2, and RMC-1L) support this. There's a nice little writeup for Volumio. By the way, here's the DSD over PCM Standard. Of course all of this is just annoying. Using HDMI, USB, S/PIDIF (Optical or Coax) all mean that I have to have another box to bridge Ethernet to my DAC/Processor. I just want to stick an Ethernet Cable into my DAC/Processor and be done with it. (Note, this has nothing whatsoever to do with "bits". Bits are Bits. Data is Data. I'm just annoyed by clutter and another Wall Wart Power Supply.) I of course have a preference to the software running on the DAC/Processor that is sucking the Bits off the Ethernet Cable: a Roon Endpoint. But there are others like the venerable Squeeze Client (which the Roon Server knows how to talk to). Honestly, these are all very simple pieces of Client Software. Run them all. Casey

Honestly, HTIT, if you pared back I'd bet the VTLs and Maggies would be the very last to go - by a long shot. Am I right, the rest is just fluff? I appreciate your thoughts Bill, and admit that when I’m listening to music on my 2C system with the VTLs and Maggies, it’s the best stereo reproduction I’ve ever owned. I had a couple friends over yesterday and we cranked things up, with that much power it still just cruises and never feels strained. It sounded really good, but we just enjoyed the music, they aren’t audio people but after hearing the sound and seeing all my B&W HT speakers they were surprised the sound was only coming from the Maggies, they were imaging well. Now I did have the subs playing (listening to Prog and wanted the low end), so a bit a the ‘fluff’ was engaged. The truth is however, that I use the Home Theatre system much more often, my wife and I watch something almost every night, and ‘fluff’ is part of the show (you know, the big five: script, acting, video, audio, fluff!) I kid, but it makes many shows more realistic and adds to the enjoyment. Honestly I’m getting ready to put the VTLs on the block, they’ve just been gone through and have new tubes installed, they’re in prime shape to sell. Listening to them does make that more difficult, it’s a hard decision but I think it’s time. So while the audiophile in me agrees, and I don’t plan on giving up the Maggies yet (got my first pair in about 1975, these are my 4th ... or 5th), I’m likely to consolidate the systems eventually. Reality is that I listen to music much more in my ski helmet than in my listening room, just my lifestyle, and I gotta say ... I like the fluff! (though on the mountain we call it pow) —Bruce

Which unit interests you, and why — and which modules would make you spend extra for an RMC-1? Two channel music is most important to me from a audio quality standpoint and all of the multi-channel for watching video is purely for the fun factor. I'm not into multi-channel music, so the great audio circuitry of the RMC-1 & L beyond the LCR channels is not as much a benefit to me, and I don't feel I'm losing much for movie surrounds. I will not ever have more than 16 audio channels, the target for me is 7.2.4. I don't have a dedicated theater so the x.x.4 is about all I can think about ever doing . . . . for now (even James Bond said Never Say Never). So speaker expansion doesn't show up on my radar. A streaming module and Roon would interest me, however, as has been said before - for the price difference get the little guy and spend the bucks on whatever outboard stuff I want. So for me it's the XMC-2. The trade-in deal is just that, a really good deal for new dacs and better audio on the LCR. Keeping the XMC-1 makes me nervous about being forgotten about with the couple issues still outstanding - ATV4K 5.1/7.1 PCM is mishandled, and the really slow switching. Other than those two things the XMC-1 has been great for months. I'm not worried about Dirac, I have Dirac Live and am not currently using it. My L&R speakers have ARC for the woofers and they sound wonderful, and I use distance/SPL for everything which is working great though Dirac would still improve things for the movies, but I simply haven't wanted to take the time to run it with the trade-in deal just around the corner month after month after month. Maybe this month?

Since it’s trade in time the topic has come up again, which one should I get? The first post in this thread has lots of comparison resources, picture, prices, links, etc. In the pages that follow, many have reasoned their choice. Voting is still strong for the XMC-2, cast yours when you decide.

I'd love to back to a single chassis solution.

Maybe one advantage of the limited XMC-2 supply will be an extended trade in period, allowing some to wait until Dirac is available. Sounds like the next batch won’t be until November.

Similar to Mrs. Choate on Seinfeld (Jerry stole her marble rye), "I change my vote". I changed from upgrading to XMC-2 to keeping my XMC-1/V3. Just spent a bunch on a new panel and don't want the distraction of all that XMC-2 has to offer.
Although, . . . . . . . the new Dirac bass management is a very strong attraction, so . . .
