Yea the extra 1000.00 just didn't seem worth it for me,plus the xmc 2 does everything I need, The XMC-2 continues to be the bets value in the Emotiva line up by a large margin. The RMC-1l is honestly mostly a cosmetic improvement as its almost unfathomable to actually hear the difference in fully balanced channels for the surrounds. And as of right now the RMC-1 is an even worse value since it is just a RMC-1l in a bigger box for $1000 more. Once Emotiva gets upgrade modules for it that may change though. Well, unless you are geebo and your wife (like his) likes the pretty gold things on the back. Me, on the other hand, was trying to hide the fact that I got an all new processor over my XMC-1. I was honest that I had to send my old one in so Emotiva could "upgrade it to make it compatible with 4K". Mark

It’s tough to make the move given the fact that the RMC1L and the RMC1 don’t have better DACs or something that would make them higher performers for 2 channel. My XMC2 is amazing for 2 channel so I know it’s a tall order and I’m glad they didn’t hold back the XMC2.

The rest is just desert. 😂.

I was planning to order a RMC-1, but now that I've had to use my discount card, value won the day and a XMC-2 is on order as of today. Looking forward to getting the system set up after completing my home theater/listening room next year.

I just picked up the RMC-1. I used a 40% off card so I decided for $1200 it was worth it to have the size to match my three Gen2 XPA-5's and the potential for extra channels given I now have a 9.3.6 setup. All non-LCR speakers in my HT are the same and I have an extra pair, so I could change to 9.3.8 or 11.3.6 if I want to... plus I'll probably add more subs later... because I can 😁. Yes I have a MiniDSP 2x4HD, but I love the idea of using DLBM. We'll see if that bet pans out. 🤞

Does the second screen on the RMC-1 and RMC-1L only show volume? That is all I've seen on the pics of them

I honestly doubt I'll ever hear the difference in SQ between the XMC-2 and the RMC-1L in my humble set up.
But I like the looks of the RMC-1L so much better. Not sure its worth the extra money for aesthetics but I've done dumber things...
Trying to keep my tire kicking questions in one place. Am I right in my understanding that Dirac Live room correction is now working on the XMC-2/RMC-1s, it is just the Dirac Live Bass Control that hasn't been figured out? And Dirac Live Bass Control only matters if I have multiple subs?

And Dirac Live Bass Control only matters if I have multiple subs? All correct except the last item. First, several of us have chosen one of the RMC models because of looks, size, gold thingies, or some other sense of aesthetic, few of us likely think it sounds better, but I won't challenge anyone who thinks it does. Dirac Live does work well on all of the G3Ps (newest processors), and correct — Dirac Live Bass Control doesn't yet work. However, it comes in two flavors, the first is for a single sub ($350), the second for multiple subs ($500), both situations are claimed to be improved with DLBC, but none of us have yet tried it (with an Emotiva processor). Edit: Since this thread popped back up it would be a good time for anyone who hasn't yet done so to vote your processor choice.

Glad to see this thred reappear after 2 years.
The AV processor is the brainchild of whatever you have going on in that room of yours. I don’t want to have one in there with a pile of extraneous items loaded up that I will never use, but I want the highest end for what I do. That made picking the XMC1 a no brainer

First, several of us have chosen one of the RMC models because of looks, size, gold thingies, or some other sense of aesthetic I totally get the size aspect of it too. I love the size of the RMC-1! But now I'm spending $2,000 over the XMC-2 just for size? Again I've spent money on things that probably didn't make practical sense before. My Question then becomes what other than size does the RMC-1 really offer ME for the extra money other than aesthetics? What will those expansion slots really ever be used for? How many more speakers can they really add to HT systems in the future?!? Does anyone have any idea what the expansion slots will be used for? To make it future proof... But what does that mean? If the HDMI standard changes again we can just throw a new board in the XMC-2. No need for a new slot. I'm sure I'm being short sighted and someone will have a great answer, I just really don't think I'd ever outgrow the XMC-2. That said I've about got myself talked into the RMC-1L for aesthetics reasons only so maybe I just need a good excuse to go big now!

That said I've about got myself talked into the RMC-1L for aesthetics reasons only so maybe I just need a good excuse to go big now! So to answer your second question first, I point you to a post I made in this thread almost exactly two years ago, these where the things that had been mentioned and we were speculating at the time. emotivalounge.proboards.com/post/995364/threadI bought an RMC-1 without specifically needing any expansion boards, but I had a discount card to soften the blow. I do appreciate the the dual displays and Tiffany RCA connectors (gold thingies) on the RMC models, those to me are a big step up, the DAC upgrade is nice to know, as I mentioned before I doubt it makes my system sound better. The second step for slots and size are harder to justify given no boards currently exist, and generally none are needed unless you plan to go above 16 channels (if you have to ask why, it’s probably not for you), the RMC-1 is said to be expandable to 28 channels and Dolby can support that (I won’t be expanding past 16). I might by a balanced in card, and have ideas for a digital card I would buy, but I’ve never expressed them to Emotiva and I doubt it’s planned. I would say, don’t buy the RMC-1 needing a specific card to make your system complete (and nothing is future proof). I agree with your thinking that the XMC-2 will meet all of your needs, whether you would ‘appreciate’ more only you can answer. Edit: I couldn't find speaker setup for Dolby Atmos greater than 11.1.8, but I believe that limitation will change, I believe DTS:X Pro is currently at 24 channels.

Further (wordy) thoughts on eventually buying an RMC-1 (after first trying the XMC-2). I'd be curious to hear why you decided to move up to the RMC-1 when you already had the XMC-2? Well I guess a better question would be after owning them both did you find the XMC-2 lacking in any way or just wanted the bigger better model?

Well I guess a better question would be after owning them both did you find the XMC-2 lacking in any way or just wanted the bigger better model? I got tired of waiting for the XMC-2 upgrade program to start and decided I’d rather have an RMC-1 (it came first), when the XMC-2 came I sold it unopened, so I cannot give a first hand comparison. I had the benefit of both a trade in and a discount card, if I’d setup the XMC-2 first maybe I’d never have bought the RMC-1 🤷♂️ (but I truly appreciate things like Tiffany connectors). I’d say you’re over thinking this, buy what meets your needs, buy more if the aesthetics or build quality appeals to you and you can afford it (my case). If you ever reach the point where you actually want more features, you’ll probably need a whole new processor. There will (eventually) be an HDMI 2.1 board that will work with all of the processors, so you don’t need to worry about that.

I just don't like the looks of it! The RMC-1L will do everything I need. I like the looks of it. The RMC-1 with it's expandability is something I'll never need. So regardless of if I can afford it it makes no sense really. Buy the RMC-1L!

A follow up post. After talking with Jake at Emotiva and realizing that the future modules could be more than just more channels that I'll never use I decided to just bite the bullet and get the RMC-1. Will I ever actually add any modules? Who knows but for someone that over thinks things its good piece of mind to know I have the best options available to me in the future.
Tracking says I should get my new RMC-1 Thursday so I know what I'll be doing that night!!! I ordered some Klipsch RP-500SA speakers that will be arriving Thursday as well. Not sure if I'll put them on top of my front left and rights like they are intended or if I'll hang them high up above my fronts. Probably start with them on top just for the ease of that and see if I like the results. If not I'll quick hang them and see how that works. If its better then I'll figure out how to do it and make it look good. I hate fishing wires through walls..
