Okay XMC-2 owners would you buy this unit again and what bugs are you experiencing? Like the idea of the front 3 channels being fully balanced and Dirac. Do you all have Dirac yet? Going to upgrade and have read and heard some negatives thought I would get input from the horses mouth. Thanks so much. The few issues that I had have been all resolved. I’m on firmware 1.8 beta. May I ask what issues were resolved? If Emotiva would prefer that that information not be put out yet I will understand. Thanks

Thanks Unfortunately, I don’t think I’m allowed to say. We may need to just wait until Keith or another Emotiva rep to answer or provide release notes.

I copied the text in here....am I correct to assume this applies to XMC-2?
"Quick update.
1.8 is in the hands of the beta testers and I'm thrilled to say that the feedback has been very positive.
I'm reluctant to release it on a Friday for no other reason then I would like the beta guys to have a few more days with it. But I plan on cutting it loose on Monday.
Thanks you all for your patience and feedback.
Lonnie"

HDR10 is the default HDR standard so will only be shown as "HDR".
HDR10 includes metadata - which is only "set once" at the beginning of a movie.... With HDR10+ that metadata can be changed "on the fly" for different scenes within a movie.... However, as far as we know, there is no specific distinction other than that.... And we already handle HDR10 metadata...
Since we simply pass the metadata on, and have no restrictions on how often we do so, we expect that our units will work fine with HDR10+. (However we haven't had a chance to try it yet... and our processors won't report HDR10+ specifically as such on-screen.)
Does your TV actually tell you when it sees an HDR10+ signal (rather than an HDR10 signal)?
Quick question, does the XMC-2 support HDR10+ Tried a 4k bluray with HDR10+ but it only played in HDR. Using a Panasonic UB820 source and a Samsung Q90 TV, both HDR10+ capable. Thanks, Dave. I did some testing with the UB820 connected direct to the Q90R. Both the player and TV do support HRD10+. I used Ad Astra 4k Bluray with HDR10+. The Q90R should indicate when it is displaying HDR10+ content when in home/settings/picture mode. I'm sure the UB820 should indicate HDR10+ when I press playback info on the remote. I could not get HDR10+ to show on either the Q90R or UB820. It's like the Bluray doesn't have HDR10+. I checked all my settings on including having HDR10+ set to on and the optimiser set to off. I will buy another HDR10+ Bluray movie today and try agian. Dave.

Thanks... I've passed that on to Engineering. HDR10+ is sort of tricky because of what it is NOT. With HDR10 the metadata is only passed once - at the beginning of a movie.... HDR10+ is dynamic - which simply means that the metadata can be passed more than once - so you can have different metadata for different scenes. (So, from the video perspective, HDR10+ is better because you can optimize the color space separately for each scene.)
However, as far as we are currently aware of, the metadata itself is the same, and the only difference is whether you can update it multiple times on-the-fly or not. The tricky part of this is that our processors pass on metadata whenever we receive it....
So, as far as we know, we wouldn't notice any difference between HDR10 and HDR10+, and should work with both... It's also quite possible that many TV sets that support HDR10 act the same way (they may play HDR10+ content perfectly - but not "know" they're doing it). There may be some sort of flag that identifies HDR10+ data, and some TVs may detect and report that flag, but some may play HDR10+ content properly but not indicate that they're receiving it. It's also possible that there is no specific way for any equipment that supports HDR10+ to "know" that it's doing so (the distinction may simply be that it is willing to update the metadata dynamically rather than not).
We're going to look into this...

Ok. So I just got my XMC-2 today at 12:00. I got off of work at 5:30 and came home to un-box my new unit. I hooked up everything and then plugged it in. I turned it on on got this (except it had a line underneath it, all the way to the right hand side): I waited maybe 5 minutes. I figured it's a computer and I'll just try and restart it. I held down the button on the front for about 10 sec, and the power button went yellow. I turned it back on, and it looks like the picture. I turned it off and unplugged it. I disconnected everything, plugged it in, and restarted it. It is still displaying 'Please Wait', and the power button is a purple color. Any suggestions (Monday is a long ways away to wait for support on a brand new unit)?

The only thing I would suggest it to unplug all inputs to it, power it down fully...turn off switch in back, unplug it...have a cup of coffee and chill for a bit. Restart it without any sources connected to it...see if it starts up. Then go from there...if it does start up, shut it back down, unplug it, plug the sources back in, and restart it. See what happens. Don't know if that will help, but it's something to try before Monday. Mark

I believe that purple light indicator on the power switch is showing your zone 2 is active. Not sure why that would be the case on a new unit, out of the box. Recommend as others have mentioned to minimize connecting inputs for the time being and try to get through a solid boot up and then restore factory settings. If things seem to be functioning after this, start plugging your sources in.

HDMI cables:
Would someone recommend HDMI cables that are guaranteed to work, without hiccups or false starts, with the XMC-2? Incidentally, there are already 8-k spec'ed HDMI cables out on the market, and they are touted as being backward compatible with all 4k Spec'ed HDMI functionalities. Do I have to buy those in order to ensure that I would not experience HDMI connectivity headaches with the XMC-2? I would if that is what it takes. However, I am simply concerned with rock-solid reliability now.
Any suggestions of reliably solid HDMI cable performers for the XMC-2/RMC-1L/RMC-1 models would be highly appreciated. Thanks

Mark OK. Apparently I am stupid. I had the HDMI Out in the ARC slot but the input was set to HDMI 1 not HDMI ARC? I didn't have my XMC-1 set up that way. Thanks for the help.

I got these Zeskit 8K series Ultra High Speed HDMI from Amazon. The Ultra High Speed Cable not lower bandwidth Premium High Speeds.
