One more point on #3. I can almost always see the XMC-2 on my app. But when I tap the Main icon, I only see empty options with disabled buttons. Yep, same happens with the XMC-1, and has been that way forever. But usually, not always, but usually when I close the app - fully closed - and disable wifi, then reinitialize the app the buttons begin working normally. edit: FWIW the exact same thing happens with a few other apps I have for home automation: Nest, Wink, Ring. When these take forever with no end in sight, I disable wifi and POOF! They work. When you disable WiFi, your iPhone does not know anything about your network. How can it recognize the XMC? Confused.

You know what? I think you're right. I just checked and the XMC app doesn't use cellular. Embarrasing. I'm going by memory so bear with me here. I've got a main wifi router and an extender, so I think for this app (and now that I think about it - also the OPPO app) I switch my iPhone to use the wifi from whichever other wifi connection it wasn't using. The Wink, Ring, and Nest apps all have cellular so that's why I switch off wifi on the phone. Sorry for the confused state of my mind.

Shipped the XMC-1 back yesterday for the trade-in. I figure even if Dirac is delayed a bit more, we are converging now. And I'll enjoy the exercise of making a set of REW PEQ filters to compare in the interim. FYI, I asked about typical turn-around time and Kayla said 5-7 days. Shipping instructions and accessory checklist were very helpful! I was very relieved to find all my accessories and intact original packing materials. And so what to do in the meantime? Well ... OPPO-205! Balanced L/R outputs connected to my Nord amp and Magnepan 3.7's for stereo sound; AppleTV connected to HDMI input for all video content; TV connected to HDMI output; USB DAC connected to the PC to stream 2-channel music; Ethernet connected to stream multichannel music from the PC; all audio configured to down-mix to stereo. Yes, I agree, thank you Kayla for the accessories list! Very helpful. And, same but different (OPPO-105) for me! Thanks for the heads up on turn-around time, also very helpful for info-needy folks like me. Arrived at Emotiva today, and shipped already ... delivery Friday! That's 5 days door to door including shipping time!

I shipped mine yesterday, they will receive it tomorrow, then they check - and upon shipping it'll be two days back to me, sooooo maybe Monday? That would make it six total days. But - Wednesday is just as good as Monday because Tuesday is gonna be a long day.

Hey guys
Just wondering if anyone has found any way to make use of the Front wides in a full 16 channel config? It appears Surround upmixer doesn't make use of the front wides unfortunately. Is this something that will change with a software update in future or is it something that we will have to wait for content to catch up to the xmc and start using front wides?

Finally joined the XMC-1 ==>> XMC-2 upgrade train. The XMC-1 has been my smoothest handling and best-performing Pre pro for.a long time now. In that sense, I'm looking for "more of the same" in the XMC-2, and I hope I am not disappointed.

That is a bummer if it is true. When I installed speaker wires for wides, I was able to test it out using all stereo mode. I have not installed the wide speakers yet. I had the same question about wides. Most of the movies I find goes up to 7 channels. So if there is no upmixer for wides, other than using the wides for all stereo, it would go waste. I hope there will be future movies using full 9.1.6 specifications of Dolby ATMOS.

This is a limitation of how the upmixer itself works...
The way the upmixer works, including those limitations, is determined by Dolby Labs... The current "Dolby Standard", as spelled ut in the license, is updated periodically...
And, within the hardware capabilities of the processor itself, those sorts of updates are usually included in the latest firmware.

I hope there will be future movies using full 9.1.6 specifications of Dolby ATMOS. I don’t hold out much hope for that, the future is streaming and anything that consumes bandwidth will be shunned by the movie studios. They want maximum world wide distribution of their product and they aren’t going to risk that with bloated product that can’t be streamed anywhere and everywhere in the world. Plus, they and the streaming services will always preference video over audio and 8K for example is whole lot easier to sell than an extra couple of channels utilised by a truly tiny % of their customers. Producing different versions fir streaming and on disk is becoming less attractive by the day as sales of the latter fall away. There is a damn good reason why the movie studios pushed Dolby into providing pinned 7.1.4. Cheers Gary

Got my XMC-2 trade-up last week and got it all set up. Had my Dish network Sat box as input playing in the living room on HDMI 1.
I was in the back room when I heard a high-pitched whistling sound coming from the speakers. Video looked fine. I immediately tried to switch inputs but it was stuck. I hit standby and then powered back up. It was hanging in Please Waitmode, so I did a hard shutdown, and upon restarting all was ok.
What the heck could cause this? I've never heard anything like this before on either of my XMC models.

Okay XMC-2 owners would you buy this unit again and what bugs are you experiencing? Like the idea of the front 3 channels being fully balanced and Dirac. Do you all have Dirac yet? Going to upgrade and have read and heard some negatives thought I would get input from the horses mouth. Thanks so much.

Hello Stevem1,
I did the trade in end last year. Yes I would buy the XMC-2 again. I`m running FW 1.7.6 and it`s running quite good. FW 1.7 before was a disaster, lot`s of hang ups, no audio/loose audio when switching channels with my set top box, no 3D to my beamer. With 1.7.6 3D is working again. Dirac isn`t avaible yet, but it should be soon (In the last podcast they said about 45 days, KeithL said somewhere in march...... we will see....) . The XMC-2 sounds fantastic! Look and feel are also fantastic. I love such small things like the mute function of the volume button Hardware is great, Software has potential yet :-)

Quick question, does the XMC-2 support HDR10+
Tried a 4k bluray with HDR10+ but it only played in HDR. Using a Panasonic UB820 source and a Samsung Q90 TV, both HDR10+ capable.
Thanks, Dave.

HDR10 is the default HDR standard so will only be shown as "HDR".
HDR10 includes metadata - which is only "set once" at the beginning of a movie.... With HDR10+ that metadata can be changed "on the fly" for different scenes within a movie.... However, as far as we know, there is no specific distinction other than that.... And we already handle HDR10 metadata...
Since we simply pass the metadata on, and have no restrictions on how often we do so, we expect that our units will work fine with HDR10+. (However we haven't had a chance to try it yet... and our processors won't report HDR10+ specifically as such on-screen.)
Does your TV actually tell you when it sees an HDR10+ signal (rather than an HDR10 signal)?

Because I use one TV (no projector), my experience has been very good from the start (I bought the unit the first day it was available). The few issues that I had have been all resolved. I’m on firmware 1.8 beta. Sound quality is exceptional and even without Dirac, music and movies have never sounded so good. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the XMC2 to anyone who have a similar setup as me.

Going to upgrade and have read and heard some negatives thought I would get input from the horses mouth. Thanks so much. Yes, because... 1. The XMC2 is the processor to beat. If you are considering a 16 channel AV processor; the XMC2 has to be a consideration, maybe even a baseline as you consider features, prices and support. 2. Humans behind the box. Real people with names actively engaged with the customer base. 3. Once you're in the Emotiva family; the products as well as the incentives keep you coming back. Some people have 40% off cards, upgrade for life memberships, various cash credit for future purchases, ETC.. 4. I want the little man to win. Not calling Big Dan a little man, but I'm referring to the small, innovative businesses like Emotiva that I choose to support. Not only in the foreground but also in the background as a tester when they need as well as demonstrating their products at my home accompanied by a few beers. It's one thing to complain about product performance, but I also like to be a part of the solution and Emotiva allows that. 5. See number 1 again and by all means, do your research.
