Another year, another major update for all of the Apple OS', I decided to move the thread to Tech Talk as it's not quite Green Room material. Only one was released today -- iOS 13 -- but some have already cautioned that there are some bugs and you should wait for 13.1 (due to release on the 24th). I went ahead and so far haven't run into any problems, but if you live and die by your iPhone, you might want to read about the release before jumping in. "iOS 13 introduces a dramatic new look for iPhone with Dark Mode, new ways to browse and edit photos, and a private new way to sign in to apps and websites with just a tap. iOS 13 is faster and more responsive with optimizations across the system that improve app launch, reduce app download sizes and make Face ID even faster." Edit: iOS 13.1 is now out!>>> Apple iOS 13 Feature Page <<<>>> MacRumors iOS 13 Roundup <<<>>> Tech Radar, Why you might want to wait <<<Correction, watchOS 6 was also released today. >>> Apple watchOS 6 Feature Page <<<With this release the iPad will break away from iOS and get it's own ... wait for it ... iPadOS, it will also be released on the 24th so I'll wait to comment more. Edit: iPadOS (13.1) is out now!>>> Apple iPadOS 13 Product Page <<<>>> Apple iPadOS Update & Features Page <<<tvOS 13 will be out on September 30th, and ditto for comments, though some here have probably tried the Beta and might want to jump in with what they like (I hear there will be underwater screensavers!) >>> Apple tvOS 13 Feature Page <<<>>> MacRumors -- tvOS 13 Everything we know <<<Finally MacOS 10.15 a.k.a. Catalina is now scheduled to be released in October, of interest here might be this statement "and for the first time, 4K and Dolby Atmos–supported movies are available on Mac." >>> Apple Catalina Feature Page <<<Coincidentally I was just in LA for my HS reunion and a friend let me use his vacation home that had a great view of Catalina!

My Mom’s iPhone 6 has been in dire need of upgrading so I’ve taken it upon myself to gift her my 9 month old iPhone XR, thus ordering myself an iPhone 11. I know there’s not a whole lot of changes from the XR to the 11 but it always fun and exciting to get my next iPhone. Apple must be a little behind as delivery date is by Oct 2. Luckily I’m in no hurry.

Running 13 all day...(best upgrade yet me thinks) Yes, it’s good. The face recognition really is faster, I’m trying dark mode, seems like it should also increase battery life. I like the photo editor as well, much more intuitive.

Phone wise I'm an android user and lover but tablet wise I like the iPad much better than any Android tablet I've tried, it's weird I know but that's just me. Looking forward to the new iPadOS. Chad

Tablet wise, I traded in my iPad Air 2 to an iPad Mini (version 5) a couple months ago. I can’t wait for Night Mode.

IOS upgrades I can live with. From Mojave to Catalina is more questionable.
I run business software in a virtual machine via VMWare Fusion (that I'm not too happy with, but it works). Every time Apple updates the OSX, I have to buy the "new" version of Fusion (at ~$50) every time.
I'm thinking of skipping the OSX new version, and just keeping my existing Mojave with the copy of Fusion that still works. I don't need new features so much as I need stability, low software costs, and no new learning curves.

You might take a look at Parallels, I think it’s about $80 for a one year subscription, you get all the updates during that time (the major update seem to always come out in August). Offhand it seems more expensive, but it’s backwards compatible for several versions, so you don’t have to upgrade each year and could cancel your subscription for a couple years. I once went several years without a subscription or update. I currently run one Windows 10 VM and one Windows 7 (though I’ve pretty much stopped using that and rarely start it). I only run Visio on Windows, but it can be pretty intensive. They also have some nice utilities for macOS and Windows, I liked using Remote Desktop from my iPad into the Windows VM, but the Parallels remote is even better and lets you remote into individual apps and run them full screen. Certainly VMWare is a good product, I used it for years at work, Xen too, but Parallels is working well for me, and could end up less expensive. www.parallels.com/products/desktop/Here’s a compatibility table: kb.parallels.com/114381

You're definitely right that I don't need it, but since when has that stopped most of the home theater addicts on the Lounge going on spending sprees. Though in this day and age, a smart phone is more or less becoming a necessity. OK, OK, I'm now done justifying!!! LOL

I thought the same thing about the battery life as well. I don't like that they've moved the "Updates" for apps. I actually had to search for it for 15 minutes or so, I preferred it being one of the tabs at the bottom of the screen in the App Store.

Tap on that and your “Account” page comes up, scroll down and you’ll see your current apps and if they need updating.

We always tear open the new toy without looking at the packaging. I’m sure I’ll forget where its at the next time I go looking for it, maybe! I’ll find out then! LOL

I’d noticed my Apple Watch Series 1 was not being offered the update to watchOS 6, though my wife’s Series 3 was. I assumed the Series 1 had ‘topped out’ and wouldn’t be able to use the new OS, then I noticed this on the feature page:
watchOS 6 compatibility: watchOS 6 requires iPhone 6S or later with iOS 13 or later, and one of the following Apple Watch models: Apple Watch Series 1, Series 2, Series 3, Series 4, Series 5
Not all features are available on all devices.** ** watchOS 6 will be available for Apple Watch Series 1 and Apple Watch Series 2 later this fall.
So the original ‘Apple Watch’, that predates the ‘Apple Watch Series 1’, can’t take watchOS 6, but all the other models can (eventually). You also need at last an iPhone 6S running iOS 13 to pair with your Apple Watch running watchOS 6.

I’ve been loving 🥰 iOS 13....(anyone notice the powerful new editing features that can be used right here on the forum??)
The real kick 🦵 however was when I plugged into Apple Car 🚘 Play in the new Nissan Murano. Entirely new, stable and well ordered interface shows up on the dash. 12 was problematic in the car, so this was a revelation with my 64 gig 6SE.

I turned in my car with CarPlay and really miss it, I now find plain Bluetooth so ... primitive. I haven’t tried my iPhone on the forum.
