I have an audio dropout problem that I assumed was due to the Disney+ app on the TV (Sony). Actually I still assume that but since folks are having dropouts on the XMC2 I thought I'd mention it. We'd be watching a show and every now and then the audio drops out for a few seconds. If we "rewind", the audio is there. I had been assuming this was some kind of buffering problem on Disney+ as we don't get this on any other source that I can remember. Happens for me on Apple TV 4K too. Sometimes a few times in one night ... sometimes not for weeks.

Aaargh! I could understand getting a sound from the processor if VRO was set and something was allowing an audio path to get through after a cold boot, but I really don't understand when it's not supposed to have an open path when using LPS. too bad. I think there's a reflash needed for one of the chips in your processor. One more question about when this beep happens. Which source is active while booting up the processor when the beep happens? The audio dropout issue you are having might be related to the beeps. I say this because the dropouts happen so often for you. My XMC-2 has been on for hours and when I use Coax or Optical Inputs there are no audio dropouts when playing a music CD. If you can, please try this. Disconnect all the cables from the processor related to sources and displays, HDMI and optical and coax. Then reboot a bunch of times like you normally would and see if any beeps still happen. If so, then I think it's going to need repair. It's getting worse. After switching to Lowest Power, the device keeps completely silent when connected via Coax or Optical cable. Only switching to another source solves this issue. And I haven't mentioned that I have a crackling noise out of the speakers when I play a Bluray or SACD and eject the disc before I have pressed the stop button. Now I am so annoyed that I have rebuilt my former setup and sent the item to the EU-support in Denmark. We will see...

There are a Yamaha streamer and a Denon DVD-player which I only use to play CDs. They are connected via coaxial respectively optical cable. As I said, there was never a problem with these on my former setup (XDA-2 and XSP-1). And I don‘t use the rear power switch, but a switched connector strip, without a problem in the former setup. Setting is: Video remains on. I assume there‘s a problem with the DAC of the EMO, with HDMI there are no issues. I don’t want to interrupt ttocs‘ troubleshooting as he’s on track, but I want to clarify; are you switching this power strip during this testing process? Having the equivalent of a rear switch power on/off during each boot could change the outcome, especially if you’re in VRO.

To put it another way: If you think I should never disconnect the device from the mains just to prevent the error from occurring, that would not be an alternative for me.

No, what I’m saying is that while you’re troubleshooting, you should leave the device connected to power, and change settings from there. Once you’ve tracked down the problem and have everything working as you want, then introduce the power strip back in. It’s just a variable that needs to be accounted for, but maybe you’ve solved your issue.
