BTW all of these tests listed so far have been via the Surface Pro connected via mini DP to HDMI Same with me with the iMac. Amazon music is not only great with playing every second but the interface and the higher quality sound really makes it worthwhile. Iβm amazed at the sound quality and I donβt need to mess with anything else now for music. Have you tried with apple music/itunes? What is Amazon doing at the start of songs that no one else is doing that Emotiva isnt coded for. Because it doesnt make sense that the solution is in Apples code only right? If other receivers can do fine with Tidal then there has to be a combination of differences. But it gives hope that the issue can be resolved. Someone mentioned that Amazon doesnt insert mutes in between songs. But that would make sense when playing playlists or albums. But Ive tested through random songs within the Amazon app and it doesnt explain why Tidal suddnely works fine if Amazon is playing. This is really odd.

I just did and I canβt get the first couple seconds to be muted at all. Maybe it was something they did with firmware 1.7 or maybe itβs me using my iMac vs a PC? Or using an HDMI cable vs. USB. Either way it works great- even better than what I expected. I always expected the first couple seconds to be muted dating back to my Onkyo in 2008. Also, the DTS works now as well. No more switching back and forth to get it to lock on. The levels are a little low so you gotta crank it up vs when watching a Dolby movie. +5 dBs or so.

Much clearer stage and imaging is crystal clear. I just spent an hour A-Bing it. I may not have the proper HD upgrade on Amazon. Cant seem to find where you set that. erit: found it

From ATV4K- youtubeTV, Netflix, YouTube etc. It used to mute when I would fast forward on YouTubeTV. I use YouTube from ATV4K and sometimes from my LG C7. I donβt use my Mac to broadcast YouTube bc of those other sources. EDIT: zero muting issues from viewing YouTube from ATV4K. Not sure what Apple/YouTube/Emotiva has done but Iβm not experiencing any muting issues right now. So if it happens from time to time Iβll excuse my XMC2 π.

I'm getting different results from reboot to reboot. I give up. Just ordered the Arcam AV860 I think you have a defective unit. I know I said that before but dating back to the XMC1 days there were folks with issues that I never saw. Obviously, going a different direction is an option and your choice but asking for a replacement unit could also work - especially since based on my unit, the XMC2 can also be a problem free unit. I do feel bad for you and others who don't have the same experience as me and others who have an XMC2 that just works.

I would have considered that but I was told mine was acting as intended by their programmers. Thanks for the sympathy on it. I did want to keep it and put in a lot of QA testing into different things to make it work. But I got my answer from support so I should have just accepted that was going to be it.

On ATV4K, when using the Amazon Prime app, watch now -> there is a couple seconds muted before the sound kicks in. But the pause and play, seek and play causes no delays.
Is the first few seconds of a movie trivial? It is to me. I was able to enjoy my movie and the fabulous sound out of the XMC2.
I am looking into that Monoprice unit thought - if it's really good, I may be selling my primo XMC2 unit and moving to that unit.

I'm getting different results from reboot to reboot. I give up. Just ordered the Arcam AV860 You wouldn't rather have its replacement with all the improvements/features like sub bass management ? plenty of choice very soon ;good luck www.arcam.co.uk/products,HDA,AV-Processor,AV40.htm

I want something stable that will play an entire song not 99% of it and call it "a feature" to remove the first few sounds for me. I can just plug my ears manually for such a feature.

So now I'm in limbo a bit here. The firmware hasnt completed successfully as per the described success of "going into standby when complete". It seems to get stuck every time in the please dont turn off mode. But if I go in and check the firmware it is listed as the new 1.7. So Now im in fear of whether it actually completed and didnt properly notify or is it partially loaded and who knows what. I did a factory reset before doing the first upgrade. I am not sure if that loads the actual factory firmware but I suppose I will try that 1 more time with a reset first. Man I am in a pickle here. If I was getting full price refund this RMA would have been packed again. Or if it didnt sound amazing for 99% of the seconds it plays. But I did the trade in program so after shipping costs back for the RMA im looking at a loss of about $600 against full price vs refund. UGH I have exactly the same problem with the firmware update. By me the XMC-2 get stuck every time in the phase: "Updating Front panel". I have tried 5 times, it seems to me a hardware problem (with different sticks, with newly downloaded firmware). I found on the USB stick a log file with the details of the update process and it is confirming that the update steps before went well, but by the front panel it is over timing. After checking the system information is telling me, that I have the 1.7 firmware on the pre/pro. I sent my mail with the log file in it 6 days before, no answer, I called tech support, and they said: most probably I have to send back the unit. From middle of Europe it is not so easy... This is one of the worst customer service, what I experienced till now.

But I'm in the USA. I would ask if you could speak to Keith or Lonnie. Explain to them that you are in Europe which makes a return much harder to do and that you would like to exhaust all potential solutions before sending it back. Also....try going back to 1.5....I had to do that because 1.7 gave me an issue with Video on Standby not producing audio when in low power mode. I was told that they are working on a firmware fix for that. Apparently some TV's had issues with 1.7.

I had an XMC-1 for five years and really Loved it. There were a few issues that were solved by firmware updates, and for me it was very stable. Alot of value for the money. I would not want to give up on the XMC-2 either.

So to be fair to Emotiva I continued testing as many devices as I could and will offer further updates for now. The Arcam is in and I decided to send back the mono amp but I'm keeping the reference stereo amp. The aesthetic clash with the mono amp was just too much as they both face front.
So updated info. The Reference Stereo mode is odd. In 1.5 it was just an option out of the gate. You press the scroll arrows and its one of the choices. Now it seems I need to go in and enable it for every input and select it as the Auto option. It will default to that but as soon as I scroll out of it once it no longer shows up on the list.
As for further testing. I went out and bought an Appletv4k. No muting in any music apps including Tidal. Problem with this is the Apple TV is stuck on 24 bit 44hz music for whatever reason you cant do true hifi on it. I also have a Node 2i which I suspect would work. But adding another device defeats the purpose FOR ME of having a processor in a home theatre environment, which is that the TV is to be my main streamer for all things if possible. I dont want to add more and more devices. But I mention that the APple TV works in case this solves the problem for other people.
As it stands I am still sending back the XMC-2. I am going to test the Arcam and see if it suffers from the same issues. That will go back too if need be. I also decided to move the Emotiva reference amp to center channel duties with a aback up channel available if it one blows out I guess. I added the NAD M22v2 stereo amp into the equation for main fronts.
