Emotiva, please keep in mind that ALL of us do not need 15.9 channels, and a bunch of gimmicks(the new equal to lots of pretty lights and switches). Many of us just want an hdmi prepro to make hook up simple.A few options to tweek, lots of inputs and MOST important, really good sound. The good sound/hdmi connections is my priority,I've had/have Onkyo and Integra and they had crap I never use,and sounded cold and hard. There will always be an Onkyo etc...with lotsa gimmicks for the kids,me and my friends just want a low cost prepro that sounds great and does the basics right. We now return you to the "I want a $700 prepro that sounds like a Krell and performs in a $5k range and cost like a Sony thread". +1 It's the KISS principle (keep it simple stup...) ! To each his own, but I couldn't care less about PLIIZ; heck, I don't even really need a Zone 2, and I would even go as far as trading the entire video processing for higher quality sound both in the DACs and the analog section. When I think about it, I only really need HDMI for the HD codecs, as a digital link for CD/SACD and for the video switching! Matter of fact, though, I don't know of a prepro with such basic functionality in the same price range as the UMC-1...

In fairness to the UMC-1, feature-wise it has a couple things the Integra's don't. On the more expensive 40.1 I don't see Dolby Volume or 7.1 analog inputs. And even the $2800 80.1 lacks 7.1 inputs. So while the UMC may be lacking a couple bells and whistles compared to their competitors, everyone has some area you can nitpick.

The 80.1 which will be almost identical to the Onkyo 5507 does have 7.1 inputs. Below is a link of a picture of the rear panel of the 5507 where it shows the 7.1 MC input. I would assume the 40.1 will a have 7.1 input as well. The 40.1 might not have Dolby Volume but it will have Audyssey Dynamic Volume which is a similar function. www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=151313&d=1251564061Bill

I guess the 80.1 will be available in October according to there press release. Not trying to be a downer, but I wonder if EMO can say the same thing about the UMC considering October is only ten days away. If not the wait may be a little longer than around the corner. Hope not...

I didn't see them when I looked at the picture. The 40.1 seems to lack them, though, judging by this picture: www.gspr.com/integra/images/dhc_401_rear_300.jpg

Sorry Guys about my comment about wishing the XMC-1 having Dolby PLIIz. I too think the UMC-1 is going to be a good value whenever it comes out. I just prefer when I purchase a piece of audio/video gear for it to have as much of the "latest and greatest" audio/video formats as possible. I realize the UMC-1 and the XMC-1 are at a very low cost for what you get. I was just stating my opinion. I guess I am just a "kid" and am not included in the "friends" when I state what I would like. Thanks,Brian

Sound fields and processing tend to breed love it, hate it opinions so that's what you get. I think what most object to is the idea that these pre/pros are antiquated out of the gate. Considering most of the better pre/pros out there don't even have the feature set of the UMC-1, that makes no sense. If Onkyo/Integra is the end all, be all of home theater then maybe I'm wrong, but looking at the entire market (and particularly that which Emotiva competes in) the UMC and XMC will be an incredible value, and possibly best in class products...if they ever get here.

Kind of surprising that there is no MC input on the 40.1 at all. Kind of eliminates the 40.1 for anyone that needs a MC input that has say an older no-HDMI SACD/DVD-A player. I find it odd that composite and S-Video are still included on all AVR/prepros but some companies like Onkyo are not including a MC input. I guess HDMI is the future . Bill

Glock3540, No need to be sorry about bringing up the subject of Dolby PLIIz. Lonnie started a thread in January asking us what we felt about it. I posted in it to bring it up to date.

I would have thought the networking and other useful features would be what looks nice on the top Onkyo/Integras. Yamaha has had front height channels since the 90s. Never seemed to gain much steam. Most people don't even have space for 7.1 let alone 9.1 or more. I'd like to know what HD Radio Ready means, though. My old receiver is "ready", it has analog stereo inputs. I don't want HD radio enough to spend $150 on a separate tuner, not at home. Maybe in the car. The 3 (THREE!!) video calibration settings per input is what I call "more advanced than Emo's". But the Reon is probably behind the Torino. Still nothing perfect even announced, let alone available to purchase.

I don't even care about HD codecs. PCM is all I need as all my sources decode HD audio. I just need good HDMI switching and good unadulterated audio and video. Well maybe adulterated video if the scaler is "that good", but if the UMC-1 can't provide these simple things satisfactorily, I'll continue to wait until something comes along that does. I'm not all that disappointed in the performance of my v661. I'm just looking to improve the basics.

I also don't care about video upscaling as all of my video devices are HDMI. That isn't the issue. Are all your sources the exact same resolution as your TV?

Well maybe adulterated video if the scaler is "that good" Woo-hoo! Another reason to want the UMC-1. Adulterated video! What?
