… There has to be an IPhone app that adds wow, flutter, hum, and clicks and pops to a recording to make you feel like you are at LP Home. … Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree, SW solo, etc), also a masterful recording engineer and sought after Surround / Atmos remixer, occasionally makes videos explaining things in his studio. Recently he showed off a new ‘plug in’ for his DAW, a cassette tape overlay that can take your pristine digital recordings back to the analog ‘70s, replete with distortion, tape hiss, wow, and flutter. Ah nostalgia! Actually, on one of PTs songs from the late 90’s (“Don’t Hate Me”), the recording opens with what sounds like an open reel tape deck mechanism clicking into place, followed by tape hiss, it fades out as his guitar starts. I’ve gotten to appreciate it as a signal that song is coming up on a playlist. So yes, there probably is an app for that.

40+ hours of travel coming Sunday/Monday. I like audio books best in the car, but they're tough for some reason in an airport or airplane. I have a Kindle, though I rarely use it. I've given up trying to understand why people listen to vinyl, so I'm going for something easier ... been kind of working out the origins of the universe lately so I picked up these two ... View AttachmentWow! Is this a total non sequitur or are you having trouble figuring out how to use your turntable on the airplane. JK of course… There has to be an IPhone app that adds wow, flutter, hum, and clicks and pops to a recording to make you feel like you are at LP Home. Wasn’t an LP sent up with one of the deep space satellites? Voyager? If that satellite ever reaches other intelligent life, the beings will probably say, “What are these earth dwellers thinking?” We haven’t listened to Vinyl in more than a million years! SMH…” However, I think that satellite will just be traveling “Until The End Of Time”- Or, until it hits something and disintegrates, or burns to a crisp. Enjoy your trip. Looking forward to your pics. Yes there are most certainly apps ... like the one I have for photography that reduces dynamic range, screws up colors and adds grain specific to a hundred different kinds of film. Yes Voyager 1. My cousin's husband worked on that project. I have a watch commemorating the Voyager with a replica of the record on the back.

It would manipulate vocals and make a vocalist sound very spooky. I downloaded it and used it in my Cubase DAW. Applied it to my ex-wife’s voice, who was an otherwise very good Alto. That was cathartic and very satisfying. However, the Halloween plug-in is resource intensive – sort of like my ex. Any effect is useful in production. Retro sound and visual stuff is fun when there is a purpose.

Time to add CO2 to my desktop aquarium... got it filled yesterday at a local home brew store. The owner chuckled a bit when I told him the CO2 was for an aquarium setup. While I waited for the fill, we sat down and sampled a few of his home brews... was a fun afternoon.

I've purchase a few Taylor cooking timers with temperature probe over the last 20 years, same model, and they all worked great. But the temp probe wire on each is what fails. My third one failed a few days ago when I tried to use it on a prime rib roast and the temperature didn't show up. So I had to use one made by Kitchenaid that I'd never used before which didn't work as well and wasn't as easy to see due to the crappy screen. So the meat was not a true medium rare, it was down a few degrees. So I bought a Meater+ cooking temperature probe. Several things that attracted me to it are: 1. The app, so I can keep an iPad open with its large screen showing all the cooking stats I want to see at a glance from far away, or use another mobile device. 2. It will estimate cooking time based on internal temperature + ambient temperature + rise time, and show the resting time (if warranted). 3. It's wireless. This will get its first workout in a couple days.

In the old days, you bought a flashlight, (or found one in the drawer,) lol.
When you found it, you would bang on it with your fist to get the thing to light up… Something that you would do most of the time you were using it.
Now, getting a flashlight is a high-tech exercise, and with the death of brick and mortar you can’t just walk into a store and buy one… If you do that you’re doomed.
Anyway, after a weekend of intermittent online browsing, I finally came up with this one…… If you walk a dog at night, you have to stop screaming and cursing at the flashlight And step up to the plate and buy one once and for all! Forgive my rant lol. Here it is .

Get a grip, for the A7III. Needed for large lenses, body too small, also 2 long lasting batteries inside.

What is logical to go with my Sony a7iii battery grip? The 2nd NPF-Z100 battery for my battery coming grip soon. I have 2 3rd party batteries too. Curious what the battery life will be like. Interestingly the 3rd party charger will not fully charge the Sony battery though the camera will. This was the season when Sony decided not to include the external charger. But the BC-QZ1 can be had from B&H for about $100.00! When manufacturers cheap out leaving the charger out as part of the kit. Earlier Sony cameras did come with the charger in the box. Even though the charging acceptance is built into the a7iii. Adapter preferably Sony you provide, and their USB A to C cable that Sony provides.

Had to purchase another pair of B2+, to replace one that got ruined.
I have four B2+ for height speakers. Have had them mounted on the walls for 6 months. Was listening to music a couple of weeks ago when one of the B2+ fell, bounced off one of the RS-11 subwoofers, then smashed into the wall taking out a huge chunk of drywall, then crashed onto the tile floor. Our 5 cats, dog, and bird freaked out and wiped out everything in the room as they ran/flew away in a panic. It was horrible. The seal of the B2+ is ruined in several places, plus it looks terrible.
Turns out a weld on the speaker mount failed. It is rated for 30 pounds, the B2+ is only 15 pounds. It held the speaker for 6 months before failing. So, now I have a spare B2+ in case it happens again. Definitely not a purchase I was planning to make. I believe the damage to the RS-11 subwoofer is only cosmetic, hoping. I'm hoping the other speaker mounts do not fail.

I've got an old Canon 2Ti, which has been okay for pictures, but now my kids are playing sports, and one of them is in band competition. Someone local is selling a used Sony a7III for $700 with 784 shutters. Was wondering if you think that's a good deal, and what to look for/be careful of? This is only for the body, charger and battery. I was looking at the A6400 as well since it appears its a good video camera. My second youngest plays football.
