RMC-1/RMC-1L/XMC-2 Owners Thread (Post Firmware v1.10)

I have my RMC-1L for around a year, and now using FW 2.1, Most of the time I use Balanced In and use Reference Stereo mode, it sounds really fantastic.
And my most-using-device is LG-TV with HDMI ARC, only volume control CEC function is enabled and all other options off.
Let's say I got 100% working ARC unless I do not follow correct ON-OFF sequence of each device. For example, I have to turn my TV ON first, and of course my TV is always HDMI ARC enabled. Second, I have to turn my RMC-1L which LAST SELECTED INPUT is non-ARC such as HDMI 1(I connect HDMI 1 to my PC), and all other devices(3 power amps, OPPO 203, DAC) will be automatically on by trigger. Ok, everything works fine when I keep this sequence. And, I MUST keep my OFF sequence otherwise ARC won't work any more. I have to cold boot my RMC-1L. First I have to change input to none-ARC input such as HDMI 1 on my RMC-1L. And then I turn off TV, and turn off RMC-1L, all other devices will off automatically by trigger.
When I do not follow this "RULE OF ON AND OFF SEQUENCE", ARC no longer work and TV is started no sound or HDMI ARC is automatically offed. When this happen, Even if I select HDMI ARC input on my RMC-1L, it will no more work at all, TV volume will not corresponding RMC-1L's volume any more (it means ARC connection is messed up). So I have to cold boot RMC-1L (turn off by back panel's main switch, and wait just 10 sec, and turn on again), while boot logo and "RETHINK HIEND" is showing, I have to select and re-enable HDMI ARC mode on my TV, and press volume up and down on my TV remote repeatedly until RMC-1L boot sequence is over. I can see now my RMC-1L volume is now working with my TV remote. So ARC is back and it works again.

Sometimes it messed up, especially when my wife or kids use RMC-1L for game or watching TV. They simply ignore ON-OFF sequence, even if it is programmed on my Logitech Harmony.
But when I use, ARC never failed.

Long time ago, I complaint Emotiva RMC-1's ARC does not get DD+ Atmos signal from TV app, I thought it was Emotiva's fault, but it is not.
My LG TV has 4 apps working now, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV plus, Disney Plus.
All apps can play DD+ 7.1 Atmos contents very well, but not Netflix.
Amazon Prime also not worked before, but last month it has update, after upgrade, suddenly DD+ Atmos is working. So now I know that Netflix app does not follow standard protocol for sure.

I have no issue whatsoever with my RMC-1L and 2.1 firmware. No sluggish behavior (very, very rarely it happened, but just cold boot will fix this quick), no hang or crash by connected network (my RMC-1L network is always connected and I use remote app on my ipad controls RMC-1L) - actually RMC-1L's LAN is just there without any purpose except Dirac and Remote app. No OTA update, No Network stream capable, No DLNA or any kind of such purpose is implemented(I personally regret it very, very much), No HTTP capable menu system, no WEB-based system(HTP-1, Anthem AVM70/90 and other high-quality processor manufacturers start using this system already).

One more thing, I ONLY use VRO. It does not affect anything to my RMC-1L's behavior.
One thing is for sure. I LOVE Reference Stereo Sound of my RMC-1L. It is most important for me, BUT Bi-amp feature not working with Reference Stereo Mode, and will never work, it makes me really, really SAD. (Maybe Emotiva will fix this by Analog PCB upgrade? Hummm? Are they listening?  )
But also I am waiting FW 2.2 of course with great expectations!

By definition BETA versions of firmware are in the process of being tested.

And, while we may hope that everything works perfectly, we won't know for sure until we test them...

The last time I asked I got a pretty decent response, not a direct response mind you, but one that left me knowing that it will be many months before DLBC is on the table.

I stopped thinking about it and now have multiple miniDSP's.

Hi, I'm new to the Emotiva Lounge - just wanted to add that I have this same issue. I've been meaning to do some testing to determine if the issue is the XMC-2 or my amps or something else. I'm running the XMC-2 to an Outlaw 5000x amp over high quality XLR cables. I previously had an entry level Pioneer receiver VSX-531k I believe so it was an all in one unit and I did not have any hiss from the speakers whatsoever. If you happen to figure out what is causing that I would be interested to hear. Otherwise, I'll do some testing and try to report back with what I find. 

I have the same exact amp and no hissing here.

Another HDMI-CEC thorn in the side story!!!

I have a Comcast/XFinity STB, ie: XG2v2-P/Pace PX022ANM, that up until last November caused me zero problems. At some point the HDMI-CEC control options on this STB were taken out of it's firmware/software and apparently has permanently turned these HDMI-CEC options on. I figured this all out when the activities I have on my Harmony remotes were taking 2 or 3 times to change inputs from the STB to another input. It had been a while since I last perused the STB GUI, and when I couldn't find the HDMI-CEC settings that were under the "Power Settings", I thought they were moved elsewhere. Long story short, they were taken out completely after having researched this on some Comcast customer service on-line community. It was suggested to use the HDMI adapter(#41232) made by Lindy to keep the CEC commands from the STB from being sent out. Instead I practiced a few times on an older HDMI cable by pushing out PIN 13 in the HDMI connector, and then successfully did so on the HDMI cable that I use for my STB. Anyhow, the HDMI-CEC commands that were being "greedy" and keeping a lock on its RMC-1 HDMI input, no longer does this and now my Harmony remote activities are back to only having be sent 1 time instead of the 2 to 3 times it was doing.

Moral of the story, to borrow another members sentiments on HDMI-CEC, is that HDMI-CEC is the Devil's Spawn and causes headaches in ways we many times don't realize it's doing. This just proves that HDMI-CEC many times has adverse effects in combinations not yet realized in others home theater setups.

Also of note, not all Comcast STB's firmware/software have extracted the HDMI-CEC options, but mine has so many of you may not even notice this CEC problem.

Can you also test the fact that audio pass thru on a power on to the last Hdmi selected - audio seems to be lost but video is there...until you switch to another input - let it settle there and then go back again to the original selection. just before selecting the alternate input there is a burst of the original Hdmi inputs audio - it just doesnt appear until just before the second selection takes place.

So far so good with the update.

Meaning it installed and no bricked unit!

A lot more things were updated this time, so reassuring.

Some of us definitely have lemons for processors and I wonder if they have some stuck bits of incompatible or non compliant firmware residues in the various components.

Glad to see the HDMI got a long update... (I've long suspected the HDMI card for the XMC-1 refresh is a cause of ills)

Just updated. Did a factory reset for good measure. So far so good. What I noticed right away is how fast the xmc switches between inputs, very nice. Let's see how it holds up over time.

A little over a week in, I've decided to keep the RMC-1L.

Although the CEC performance leaves a lot to be desired, the RMC still punches well above it's weight at the price point. I'll live with IR volume for now, and I hope it gets better with a firmware update.

The only real close competition is the Marantz 8805, and it seems to be a step down in both quality and presentation. That view "port" doesn't hold a match to the OLED screens on the RMC. Putting my faith in Emotiva and hoping for some great software update

I have a strange issue with trying to do the firmware update. When I plugin flash drive into front USB port the menu says "No USB Stick". I have checked the USB stick and it works fine on my PC, update file is viable in Explorer.

Tried multiple Flash dives same issue. All are FAT32

Checked Advanced Setup and Front Buttons, Front IR Blaster and Front IR In are all checked.

Should I try the Back Panel USB port?

Also did  a XMC-2 main power off for a couple minutes - same result.

What size (capacity) is your USB thumb drive...? I have found that my RMC-1L (as well as my XMC-1 before it) are not particularly fond of large capacity sticks. In fact, my LG TV isn’t fond of them either.

I’ve ordered a few of THESE and they work fine in all of my devices.

Another tip would be to format them using a USB 2.0 port on your computer if you have that option.

Doing a Full Format seemed to fix the problem.

My XMC-2 is packed in its shipping box until I complete my home theater build. Is it recommended that I install this update now or can I wait until it's put into service and update at that time. I'm assuming there will be an additional update or two by that time (later this year, hopefully) so thinking about how firmware should be updated.
