My problems are exactly as "AudioHTIT" stated. Only Keith can answer if it is a known problem or not. Ok, but I have spoken with Damon about it and he is aware they need to fix it, Lonnie has also mentioned it in the old thread, but maybe Keith will confirm that for you.

... IF I can find someone, anyone...Bueller? who upgraded from an XMC-1 with similar issues as mine, to an RMC-1L and found it to be completely trouble-free and working beautifully... Anyone willing to share their love stories of their RMC-1L or point me in the right direction where that love exists, or am I dreaming? ... The love story would only have a happy ending if you were using the same equipment as the person telling it. Some have had a relatively problem free day to day life (I’d probably put myself in that category — and my XMC-1 experience was similar, even with the V3 board), but that doesn’t mean problems don’t crop up, and they might for you too. Check out the signatures of those telling the tales of love or woe and see if you want to swipe left or right.

So then I go online to research more info about the RMC-1L and really can't find anything solid stating that it's a home-run winner. In fact, reviews on Audio Science Review and the like paint quite bleak pictures of the RMC-1 highlighting its numerous performance issues and bugs. I wouldnt let Amir's initial review influence you too much ; his subsequent notes put the RMC1[ and by association the 1l ] as the best pre pro he has tested for SINAD ; and its over a large voltage range for compatibility with your power amps [unlike some]. www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/emotiva-rmc-1-av-processor-review.11673/page-46#post-344170Compare this with the recently tested Arcams [worth reading the new arcam avr10 review particularly] and you will see why Amir gives it a tick when Dirac turns up

flyingdutchman , I am not the one you're asking a response from because I didn't have lots of problems with the XMC-1 and my XMC-2 is not problem free, but, it's been better than my XMC-1 and I'm telling my tale anyway. The issues with the XMC-1 were mostly after upgrading to the V3 HDMI 2.0 board, and the XMC-2 (same basics as RMC-1) was pretty much a continuation of the same issues except that the sound is so much better. And, after a few firmwares, most of the issues are gone. I don't recall when I had to hard reboot last - even when trying to duplicate issues other's are having. So it's been stable for my system. Like I said, not problem free, but I feel that with each firmware there is really good progress lately. I've never had any electrical/mechanical problems with any Emotiva product. I've only been a customer for 7 years, but still, no prozblems. And like you said, it's a great deal! Only time I power cycled my xmc-2 was after the 1.10 update, volume difference on upmixer aside it has been flawless

re: network issues and UHD. The remote apps will not connect/work when the audio source isn't one they recognize. Try connecting to the app before starting your source. I have found that if my RMC-1 is in an standard DD or PCM mode I can get the app to connect and it stays connected after starting an Atmos or DTS:X or UHD source.

So I’m hoping for this pattern to continue. I’m sure Emotiva would rather not have customers buying their products as rolling the dice so that’s a perception they are probably working hard to change. With firmware 1.10, I think they achieved that. Obviously everyone including them would have wanted fw 1.10 functionality and reliability on fw 1.0 but better late than never. The sound quality is simply outstanding (with REW) on my XMC2. So I’m sure RMC1 and RMC1L you got that plus extra on movie sound quality.

Several weeks ago I was trying to duplicate some issues several were having, so I connected my projector concurrent with the panel display. I've left both connected since and have no issues. Further, When the projector is turned on, the resolution/color changes to match what the projector is capable of, and when it's turned off the res/color changes back to what the Sony tv is capable of. It all seems to work as intended.

New here. New to emotiva. I’ve got the xmc-2 up and running but the dts neural x issue is disappointing. I’ve read some of this thread in regards to others with the same issue. I just wanted to know if there was any progress on this. Is this something that should be worked out? I wanted to speak with customer service but figured I would ask other owners first. SQ for everything else I’ve tested is very impressive so really hoping for heres a positive answer here.
Thanks!

The fix is to change to “surround” mode which is the native mode and it sounds so much better. I tried to like it and wanted to use more speakers since I bothered to go thru the expense of putting them up but I gave up. But, some others seem to like DTS Neural X.

That's odd because the DTS Neutral X upmixer in my 8805 works fine and, in some cases, sounds better than DSU... but never any worse. Are you saying this because it sounds terrible on your XMC-2 or do you have another point of reference...? I'm asking this because I have an RMC-1L currently being built as the upgrade path for my (long retired) XMC-1. Just curious if I should be excited to get it or just leave it in the box until this topic is sorted out...

doc1963 I was working on this last week and so far, to me, it seems to be movie to movie. In all cases, Neural:X is 6-7dB lower volume, but other than that it sounds ok so far - except for one or two movies. Since the weekend I've been distracted by events while rearranging my equipment preparing for a new amp shipping today from Emo, so when it arrives I'll be testing the completed ATMOS system in earnest. The biggest balance issue when Neural:X is active is with too much bass, at least with a couple movies. With most movies I don't hear any difference once the volume level is increased.

However, because of the whine issue I'm dealing with is so distracting, it's hard to tell for sure. I'll verify for sure once the XMC-2 is repaired. megash0n - I can't remember, have you had a chance to try this out?

Dark Knight was one of my go to demo scenes and I always loved dts neural x upmixing. There’s something way off to me here. Besides the volume, the center channel sounds weird, the lfe is too loud compared to the other speakers. Also, I’m not 100% but I’m hearing a lot of sound coming from the heights which is not how it should sound. It’s disappointing bc the Dolby sounds amazing and best I’ve ever heard. I guess I gotta check with emotiva and find out if it’s something they plan to address. Be hard to keep the unit if this was going to continue to be in a state where I can’t be used.

The biggest balance issue when Neural:X is active is with too much bass, at least with a couple movies. With most movies I don't hear any difference once the volume level is increased. I don't understand how you're coming up with this. There is not too much bass at all in my system. I think you might be perceiving it as too much bass because the mids and highs are muddy/smeared. LFE channel, as far as I can tell, is mostly unaffected. Also, if you're basing this off of a new experience with The Dark Knight, you should understand that it's a movie with LOTS of bass, and it extends down to the single digits: The green line is peak, and the red line is average. Now, for reference, compare that to Avengers, and you'll see how much more consistent bass is in Dark Knight: Avengers is louder, but it doesn't extend nearly as low, and it's not nearly as consistent.

While owners can tell you what they hear from their systems regarding Neural X, they can't tell you if or when it will be 'worked out'. I'd say there's still some troubleshooting to do in order to make it reproducible in a consistently incorrect fashion that can be corrected (though some may think they've got a good idea). Of course it's possible that a coder will find the problem just by reviewing what's going on. If Neural X is your Valhalla you might want to wait, I mostly use the DSU and though I want to get this fixed, it doesn't currently affect my day to day use much. I think there's a strong consensus that it should be high on the punch list.

Thanks for your input. I see that your setup is 7.2.4 as is mine. Lsc’s system is 9.2.4 (which I assume he’s running front wides). Do you guys who are experiencing problems have your “atmospheric effects” speakers set as “heights” or “tops”...? Mine are in-ceiling and, in my 8805, are properly designated as “tops”. Just wondering if that makes any difference at all... FWIW, my 8805 plays at the same relative level whether DTS Neutral X or DSU is in use, but there are times where I believe DTS Neural X is more precise and involving. I would be very disappointed if this doesn’t carry over to my new RMC-1L that just shipped this evening.

All movies I use are on disc. Dark Knight: After I turned off the subs the sound was quite good but just lacked a little bass. And you're correct, LFE is not the problem. I'll measure some things next week.

I’m not sure what the deal is with DTS Neural X and the processing of it in the XMC2.
