I was really hoping to setup the theater gear one time and be done with it. Not really keen on the idea of removing the processor after only a few months to upgrade the board. That said, I'm not sure how critical it actually is to have HDMI 2.1 with my projector given the lack of content. Can anyone give an opinion on that? An NZ7 review says this: "The step-down NZ7 applies JVC's previous two-phase/120 Hz e-shift to enhance 4K or 8K signals beyond native 4K resolution. This feature, minus the compatibility with 8K signals, was previously reserved for JVC's top-of-the-line DLA-NX9." Will the current HDMI board limit me in any way? Just add to what has been said about a 2.1 card that the current card wont handle the nz7's 4k/120 hz upsampling [derived from the older top of the line nx9 as you read ] so you will have to settle for 4k/60 at this point in time .

So RMC-1 has been reviewed by Swedens biggest HT paper, Hemmabio. What was the verdict? Well pretty much glowing review and they call it their new reference processor. Amazing sound quality, channel separation, clarity and detail. Although they don’t even mention the elevated bass.. Really good build quality and good inputs. They even said the stereo sound from Reference Stereo was the best they’ve ever heard from a HT processor. Great feature set and they poured a little sugar on the PEQ with REW support. They think it’s a real bargain at 70000SEK. Which I guess is about $7000!!! One thing they they noted though was how slow it was. Extremely slow even. The tester had problems with the settings menu lagging. He many times pressed the remote too many times causing him to miss the option he wanted to go to. I know the feeling.. As a final note they did recommend it as an enthusiast device because of the old school basic UI and slowness. It was not recommended for Joe Average due to this. Do you have a link to the article?

Oleops gave you a link to the site.. Either you become a subscriber or buy the test as a PDF.. So I’m sorry, it is not available for free public consumption.. Yet anyway!

I just got a new TV, a TCL 6-series 75R635. This thing is beautiful! I have it set up exactly the same as my old 5-series TCL. It sync'ed right up via ARC and no issues - or so I thought.
Then I realized that it was not sending Dolby Atmos across the wire. I had the audio set to "Auto" which had worked before, as had "DD+" - both would pass Atmos on the old set. Neither one does on this set. The only thing that works is "Passthrough", which has its own issues. This mode seems to leave the XMC hanging for a period to determine what kind of signal it is. An example - the menu tones on the RokuTV don't generally make it to the XMC in this mode (they work fine in the other modes). BUT - once the programming starts and the XMC gets a proper signal, all seems to be good. So this seems to be an issue between how Passthrough mode is sending signals and how long it takes the XMC to lock.
Has anyone else made this work? Am I missing something? Any other TCL 6-series enthusiasts out there?

Any other TCL 6-series enthusiasts out there? I have a 65 inch 6 series from 2018. It's been a great TV for what we needed at the time when we were looking. I'm assuming you are using the XMC-2 and not the XMC-1? The new processors have some lag time before they will lock on to new audio signals. What you are saying lines up with my experience. Any time the audio stream changes there's a good 2-3 second gap before it locks on and starts playing the audio. Usually you will see the on screen info menu update when it does. Though I do not use eARC so I don't know much about that, this is my experience with the XMC-2 and my TCL 6 series.

We are working on a new firmware update for everyone
We are currently shipping a few new units with FW v2.4 already installed on them - which is specifically there to support a minor production change on one of the boards. FW v2.4 does NOT offer any significant improvements for existing units and we have NOT released FW v2.4 as an update for existing units.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you receive a new unit with FW v2.4 pre-installed on it DO NOT attempt to back-rev it to FW v2.3 FOR ANY REASON. Attempting to install older firmware on a unit that ships with FW v2.4 will result in a bricked unit that will have to be sent in to be re-flashed.
Anyone have an update on the new Firmware release? I haven’t seen anything on this in awhile.

So I just have to ask... If 2.4 is a " task specific" firmware and is not being released for existing units, would that make the next " general release" firmware version 2.5...?

So confused. On Oct 25 Nick posted "The next release will have fixes to bass management as well as enhancements for ARC and HDMI. This release is imminent but we currently do not have an exact date." Is this is reference to 2.4 or 2.5 or 3.0? Confused and frustrated. Clarity and transparency is what we bought into, at least I did. SO much to say, but I will bite my tongue. It has all been said before by others.

… Clarity and transparency is what we bought into… I think all audiophiles strive for clarity and transparency, but not necessary referring to firmware releases 🙂

Nothing to add to the FW discussion but did want to relay some of my thoughts about the new processors below.
If nothing else one thing I have learned about the newer G3 Pre-Pros is they do not apparently like to be connected to computers, or at least Apple computers. For the most part other than my M1 Mac Mini, I have had few of the stability issues many complain about in regards to these processors. As of last night however I threw in the towel and disconnected my Mac Mini via its HDMI cable which now goes straight into a 32 inch monitor with USB cable connected to either the RMC-1L or Holo Spring DAC directly. For what ever reason there seems to be a significant issue when attaching both an HDMI cable and USB cable from the same device (Mac Mini in my case) to both respective ports on the RMC-1L. Sometimes it would work but more often than not it required a few processor reboots as well as computer reboots and if done in the wrong sequence what ever that is the RMC-1L went into a spazz mode which required a complete power shut down, not just a reboot.
I'll spare everyone all the gory details of computer and processor incompatibility issues for now unless requested but thought any of the new adopters of these devices should be forewarned. Oddly enough I don't ever recall having this issue with the XMC-1. The disappointment is I can no longer use the Mac Mini connected to the processor with HDMI should I want to view some sort of video thing via the computer unless I'm up for wrestling with this issue again. I don't consider this a make or break scenario just disappointing and frustrating at best.

foggy1956 just curious do you also connect at the same time a USB cable into your XMC-2 and then try using the onboard DAC of the XMC-2?

For what ever reason there seems to be a significant issue when attaching both an HDMI cable and USB cable from the same device (Mac Mini in my case) to both respective ports on the RMC-1L. When the Mac mini is connected via both HDMI and USB, what is the purpose of each/both? I only have my mini connected via HDMI and have no issues. I'd like to try the "both" version, but need guidance as to what the purpose of using both concurrently would be so I can maybe help see what happens. And if using the USB as the "assigned audio" for the HDMI from the Mac mini, then please guide me with what the audio mode should be.
