I have an important question regarding ticks/pops/clicks for anyone who has had their processor from around firmware 2.0 days. Was there a specific firmware version where this tick/pop/click behavior first started? As in, I was on one version with none of this noise, then I updated to this new version, and the noise was present? Still trying on my end to put together as much info on this issue as I can, and I have some information on this question already, but I would love to hear from a few more folks to confirm this. I'll mine this post for info as well. Thanks again. Mine had the plops from the moment I received it in Jan 2021. I guess you can backtrack what version it shipped with at the time. Plops stayed consistent over the releases. I logged a support ticket in 28 Nov 21 with the following: The xmc-2 produces a loud transient plop when it switches between bitrates. I had hoped one of the firmware updates would have fixed it by now. But no joy so far. I get it consistently when bit rates get switched in the stream. Whether on coax, optical or hdmi sources.
Happy to provide more details / test something out if that helps.
It is extremely reproducible in my set; happens at each bitrate change.
Thanks for this info. I may reach out if we need more info on specifics.

I would wait for firmware 3.0 before evaluating ARC/CEC functionality, then contact us if you still have issues after updating with ARC. Hardware is typically not the cause of ARC/CEC issues, and 3.0 should have some nice ARC improvements with regards to compatibility and consistency. I am a beta tester and unfortunately I think my TV has issues. I see. Well in that case, if you want to do some additional troubleshooting with the beta loaded, you can reach out at customerservice@emotiva.com and put attention Brent in the email. I have been using CEC/ARC with the Beta and may have some tricks that help. If you can include make/model of TV and what firmware beta you are running, I can help out, either to get it working or to confirm if there is something at play with your specific processor. It is rare for the CEC/ARC to fail at a hardware level, but it can happen.

What player and music sources are you using? I’ve had this as well, and believe it was reported quite some time ago, though I do think this is a different issue than the pops and ticks issues that are generally reported (but maybe not?) Linkwitz LX521.4 || XMC-2 || sMS-200 SOtM & Singxer SU-1 over coax || Sony TV over optical || XBox One X & eGreat A10 over hdmi || 13 x Hypex UCD180 || Roon with Tidal || Acourate convolution filters through Roon

Hey, EmoBrent, just want to thank you for getting involved with the Board. It's refreshing to know a bit more about the bugs and the status of fixes, and the feedback we're getting seems much more timely.

It sure is refreshing to have some input (or output) from Emotiva on the forums. EmoBrentI’m looking forward to the new (stable?) firmware. Not that I have had that many issues though.. The strange thing is that I got a lot of pops and crackles directly after installing 2.3. These died off efter a month or so.. Now on 2.5 I have some smaller pops and clicks when changing bitrates or formats. Both on streaming and bluray. Very seldom on 2ch music sources other than some faint clicks. Are there any actual new features getting into the 3.0 release or is this only a CEC/HDMI fix release? Also code preperation for other stuff of course..

Found a bug on 2.5 firmware. If I'm watching a movie then decided to pause and turned off my TV for 30 mins or more, once I come back to resume, my xmc-2 is frozen with no video to my tv. Reboot was the only way to fix it. Happened three times in the last week.

This may be related to your Panasonic player, my xmc-2 will lock up if the panny is put on pause for an extended period of time regardless of whether the TV is on or off. Emo had thought they solved this quite some time ago but it still occurs on my set up.

I know what Webster's definition of "soon" is. I just wonder what Emotiva's definition is?

I know what Webster's definition of "soon" is. I just wonder what Emotiva's definition is? I'd be more interested to know the answer to" What is the minimal interval between regular mains-power-off-resets that a consumer needs to suffer for an electronic device to be considered functional?"

When testing things the reboots are constant, but only while testing, and all active devices are powered off then rebooted for proper HDMI handshaking.
During normal operation my XMC-2 is rarely rebooted for anything, about the same amount of times my Sony tv needs to be rebooted, but way less than my ATV4K needs to be restarted, which is pretty often and is dependent on which streaming services are switched from/to with Peacock being the worst offender.

New firmware should help with this kind of issue where processors have issues with TV being turned off, etc. I know that isn't an immediate solution, but I am optimistic about the new firmware with this issue. If you reach out to customerservice@emotiva.com, we may be able to make some suggestions based on your specific setup to help alleviate this. Thanks. edit: this is also typically very display/TV dependent on how this kind of thing manifests, so will likely not be consistent between everyone's setups unless using identical displays.

OK Brent..... you have us all frothing at the mouth now with your "....There will be some surprises..." sign off. I'm not that easily surprised. A surprise for me would constitute the addition of a caramel caffe latte attachment to the headphone socket. Now THAT would be a surprise. Though a pumpkin spice latte attachment would probably have me lodging a complaint. Just so you know: pumpkin spice lattes are evidence of societal decline. Any chance of a hint at the timeline for the mythical v3.x? Please don't say "a few weeks" or "what the hell is wrong with pumpkin spice lattes".
