Wondering if anyone has a process to make input switching more reliable? Doesn’t take a very long time to get it to sync but it’s still pretty annoying to have to go back and forth just to get it to work. Seems to work pretty consistently on startup but it can only startup on last input used, so a lot of the time I have to switch. Are you on the latest firmware? Yes it came pre-loaded with 1.10. Havnt been able to figure out what the right mix is to get it to work consistently. I just switch back and forth until it syncs. I assumed this was normal for most people. Thought i had read that a lot of people have to do the same. Is that not correct on the latest FW?

The video always comes up. I have had audio dropout issues and would either switch between the audio presets on the remote to bring the sound back or between sources...such as Directv and AppleTV 4K. I'm sure they are working on this, but it might pay for you to give them a call. Also, ARC and SEC can cause issues...I don't use them....make sure that you are using HDMI 2 (out) to your TV and not HDMI 1 (out).

Upon startup I have to switch inputs on everything except my PC else I get a blue screen and no HDMI lock (my other two HDMI inputs consist of an Nvidia Shield and Control4 Atlona HDMI matrix with a handful of different devices).. Annoying to say the least. Hopefully this is fixed in the next FW.

If you listed your other gear, and what situations this problem occurs, we might be able to offer more suggestions. I don’t know if this is ‘normal for most people’ (it’s not for me), but it’s certainly the case from reading here that some equipment works pretty well, and some not so much.

I have no issues (so far) achieving a reliable lock with any of my source components (all of which are listed in my sig below). It is still comparatively slower than my AV8805 by a few seconds, but otherwise, no problems. Surprisingly, I use THESE "ultra thin" (but certified) Monoprice cables at 4' - 5' lengths between my sources and RMC-1L and THIS cable between my RMC-1L and display. While I'm not attempting to bring cables into question, this combination has never failed me. And while some of us have A/V negotiation issues using the same components, IMO there can be only two major differentiating factors at play. Those are user settings and/or cables...

I use a optimum (Altice one) cable box, an Apple TV 4K, and a Panasonic ub820. All connected to emotiva, and then sent to JVC projector. I believe the Apple TV and cable box have monster hdmi that are said to be 21 gps(who knows), and an audioquest hdmi for the blu ray player. Going to the JVC is a ruipro fiber optic 4K. I just swapped that in a few weeks bc I had issues with the Monoprice cable once I put in the emotiva. Never had an issue before the emotiva. I did order some 8K cables this morning. I went with a different brand than Monoprice bc I wanted to get them as short as possible as I figured that could help. But I think the ones I ordered are legit. Even still there shouldn’t be any issues with the current cables, so I’m not expecting luck with the new ones. Still have to try it. I’m pretty sure I’m connected to the JVC from hdmi 2. Definitely have hdmi cec and arc off. I also have a secondary monitor connected to the other hdmi that only use for tinkering and no actual watching. That monitor is always off though unless I’m using it. I guess if the new cables don’t work, I’ll have to call them again. And lastly, I use the Logitech hub and app only from startup and shutdown of the system. With the marantz I could set it to change to whatever input I had it set to depending on the command. Like “turn on blu ray,” or “turn on Apple TV.” The Logitech does let you set a specific input for each command but it doesn’t actually work. Is this an emotiva issue? Something that may be addressed?

I also use a Harmony Hub, and it does set the specific input correctly, you should probably look at the Emotiva device ‘turn on delay’, and / or device turn on order. If you send the command to change inputs before it’s finished booting, it won’t make the change. I think my delay is set at about 50 seconds, though I use LPS, if you use VOS/VRO it could be set much less.

Ok....thanks....so can you describe your HDMI sync issues?
Audio only? Video only? Both?
Are you using Video on Standby?
I don't have a projector so I can't speak to it, however others who have them may be able to comment.

It seemed to eliminate my projector syncing issue and I didn’t care about the extra time to boot up. I’ll try adding the delay later today.

I don't have a projector so I can't speak to it, however others who have them may be able to comment. Basically it starts up on last input used. Then I switch to the input I want. Blue screen with some of the popping noises in the speakers. Then I switch to another random input . Blue screen and popping. Then I’ll switch back to the input and usually also get the blue screen. Back and forth once more will usually get to finally sync. Sometimes I get black screen with nothing instead of blue. But the OSD doesn’t come up during any of this, and my remote can be hit or miss so I have to go to the equipment room just to see what input I’m on. Whole thing can take a minute or two, but still annoying. Ha, Lately before I shut down I’ve been trying to think of when my next use will be and which input I’ll be using so I can set it there before i shutdown. I seem to be wrong most of the time, and then I’m mad at myself for getting it wrong.

Aside from the cable box, you have the same source components that I have (your UB-820 has the same "guts" as my UB-9000) and, yet, I'm not seeing the same problems. Here's what I would suggest... First, unplug the HDMI cable from the secondary monitor. Even if you "think" it's off, it's probably not (most just go into standby). Second, at short lengths (less than 6 feet), the heavier HDMI cables have been known to cause problems whether certified or not. Aside from bandwidth, wire impedance and/or frequency balance can have an effect upon timing and dictate its success or failure. There is an entire thread related to 4K HDMI cables over on the AVS Forum that's an interesting read. If you need "short" cables, do yourself a favor and try the Monoprice Certified High Speed "Ultra Slim" HDMI cables that I've linked above. If they do not work for you, you can always return them free of charge through Amazon. The Ruipro was an excellent choice. Here's the formula that I've had success with... Cable lengths shorter than 6' > Monoprice Ultra Slim / Cable lengths between 6' and 12' > Standard Monoprice Premium Certified High Speed / Cable lengths beyond 12' > Ruipro "Hybrid" Fiber Optic. Lastly, I use the Harmony Elite remote with my RMC-1L (as well as with my 8805 and XMC-1 before it) and never had one problem with it not selecting the correct input (or not working at all). I'd suggest running through your setup again. I would also recommend setting your Harmony's "power on" delay setting for your XMC-2 at 10 seconds (assuming you also have your XMC-2 set to "Video Remains On").

What is your second monitor? That actually may be your issue even though it is "off" That second monitor will always talk to your RMC and the RMC will only output video to the lowest common denominator (very likely the monitor). Try physically unplugging the HDMI cable from that output on the RMC and see if it works. It is veyr likely the issue.

I doubt this would solve your problem, but as to the input that the unit turns on to can be set if you have a preferred input. In Settings > Preferences > Turn-On Input you can specify what input your want the unit to come on as the active input. Sorry, did not explain that very well. Very likely already know about this but thought I would point it out just in case. Best Regards

Here's some positive news, folks. As some of you may remember, I was dealing with a high pitch whine coming from the chassis of my XMC-2. I decided to live with it, but once I added Atmos speakers and an unbalanced amp to drive them, the whine started coming out of the 4 ceiling speakers. I sent my XMC-2 in for warranty service last week. Emotiva has done a great job of sending me an email every few days letting me know the status (we received it; we're working on it; etc...). Today I got confirmation that the analog audio board was causing a sound at 3khz. They've replaced the board, tested the system, and are sending it back to me. Since I'm across the country (Oregon), it'll probably be end of next week, or even early the following week, but my theater should be back up and running soon.

I appreciate all the responses. So this is where I’m at. I pulled the HDMI from the monitor, which I have tried before and didn’t help. But at least to remove the variable while I troubleshoot. Didn’t help this time either though. I’ve got 8K cables coming tomorrow, and the Monoprice slim cables coming on Sunday. So I’ll give those a shot and see where I am, but now that I know it’s not happening to others I at least know there should be a solution. And if I can’t solve it then I can talk to emotiva knowing it’s a legit complaint.
Tried adding a 50s delay with the harmony and it didn’t work on first attempt but I may need a longer delay. I havnt timed it but it takes longer than the JVC to boot up so probably longer than 50s.
Hopefully by end of Sunday I’ll have it working or I’ll know there’s something wrong with the unit.
Thanks again

Ok, so the new cables work better. Monoprice ones still coming tomorrow but for 8$ each I might as well just hold on to them. The 59s delay isn’t enough for the harmony app to switch inputs on startup so I’m trying to run it on video on standby, to see if it works now. Originally I had issues running it that way but maybe now it won’t be an issue. Either way, it’s not a huge deal as long as the input switching is on point. I appreciate the all the help.
