Ok, so the new cables work better. Monoprice ones still coming tomorrow but for 8$ each I might as well just hold on to them. The 59s delay isn’t enough for the harmony app to switch inputs on startup so I’m trying to run it on video on standby, to see if it works now. Originally I had issues running it that way but maybe now it won’t be an issue. Either way, it’s not a huge deal as long as the input switching is on point. I appreciate the all the help. Glad to hear that new cables worked. I would still highly recommend trying those “Ultra Thin” cables if they’re the ones that I linked to above. Quite honestly, I’m amazed that they work as well as they do. I would have never believed it if they weren’t “certified”. As an added bonus, since they’re also super light, they will spare your HDMI ports from the added physical stress of heavier cables. FWIW, I use the “video remains on” power mode and it works fine. Unlike my former XMC-1 (with the V3 board), I’m not finding a need to use it any other way.

Not sure what’s going on there, my delays are below and work fine with LPS. My turn on order is typically RMC > TV > Source, so for TV is: RMC > Sony TV > TV

I agree, got the MP Ultra-Thins when I put the V3 board in the XMC-1 and moved them over to the RMC when I got it, always work great. Besides the low stress, they’re easy to route, and I like all the length options, 8’ is perfect for all my sources, 4’ for the TV. 👍

Is there a known issue with the RMC-1 outputting surround when given a PCM 5.1 signal? I've noticed that when my Apple TV sends PCM 5.1 content, the RMC-1 only outputs in stereo. Not sure if there is a setting for this? I tried Surround modes Auto, Dolby Surround, Stereo. Also shut down the RMC-1 and performed a cold boot. I also quickly tried my Denon AVR and it correctly outputs 5.1 with a PCM 5.1 signal. TrueHD/Atmos content works fine, however (I only have a 5.1 setup currently). Sounds like the ”missing center bug”. It’s actually missing every channel except the main front channels. This bug has been with Emotiva gear like forever. It does not happen every time but seems to happen more often (or only) with AppleTV. The processor reports 5.1, but does playback of only the LR channels from the 5.1 track. Making it sound really wierd with no voices or very faint because the center not being active. Most times you need to restart RMC/XMC to do a ”reconnect” to the hdmi with AppleTV to get it to work correctly.

They aren’t as thick as I expected and are very light weight. I have to assume they are faster speed then the Monoprice. I know you or someone else said it’s not just about speed, and that resistance and other factors play a big role. But they are in and working so no need to mess with them. I’ll just hold onto the Monoprice just in case. so now it’s down to Dirac and how that works, to make an ultimate decision. They told me on Wednesday that it’s a week away, but a month ago they told me it was “imminent,” so will just have to wait and see.

Some folks recommended that I enable rear surrounds in the speaker settings, and this worked to enable surround sound with a PCM5.1 signal.

As I already have rears activated (7.2.4 setup) and still have gotten the missing center bug a couple of times when playing AppleTV 5.1 sources. What you are experiencing Is 5.1 input being output as 2.1 without any missing sound (downmixed)? But the prepro reporting it as 5.1? In surround mode or auto?

Are you on the latest firmware? Yes it came pre-loaded with 1.10. Havnt been able to figure out what the right mix is to get it to work consistently. I just switch back and forth until it syncs. I assumed this was normal for most people. Thought i had read that a lot of people have to do the same. Is that not correct on the latest FW? You are using HDMI OUT #2 for your viewing output, right? That's listed in the manual as the PRIMARY OUT. Made all the difference for me with input switching issues.

I've about had my fill with this RMC-1. Here we are at the end of June, 2020 and I still do not have an Emotiva DIRAC Raspberry Pi box with switch in my hands (promised last year...no wait...March...no wait...two weeks...no wait...soon..."great success"..."it will be mailed to you"...no need to worry, it will show up", blah blah blah. On top of that, the damn thing locks up regularly. It's a $5,000 retail unit that has provisions for expansion modules that were promised long ago but still do not exist. The ONLY reason I still have this piece is because it does sound amazing (when it works) but my patience is wearing thin and I'm about to get an RMA for it and go to the latest and greatest Marantz. My wife and children give me endless grief for it (they all hate it) due to its lack of reliability (lockups, no picture, no sound) without hitting the BIG SWITCH on the back of it regularly. I'm a pretty patient person, but come on, Emotiva! Big Dan had better pull his head out of the sand and get his Company organized - or they are not going to make it in the processor market. Emotiva are the current Kings of over-promise and under-deliver in the audiophile world. My set-up is pretty simple: Modern Sony 4K HDTV, Apple TV 4K, a Samsung Blu Ray player, an XBOX an Oppo BDP-103 and a Microsoft Surface 3 in a docking station I use to stream Roon. It shouldn't be too much to ask to be able to switch inputs and have picture and video without a hard-lock! Yes, I'm using HDMI output 2 to go to the TV. All my HDMI cables are modern, good quality, and none of them have issues with anything OTHER than the RMC-1. I'm on FW v1.10 Any ideas? And Emotiva - where's DIRAC? Where's the expansion modules? This was my experience a few minutes ago: www.youtube.com/watch?v=foOwrYi-XDA

This was my experience a few minutes ago: www.youtube.com/watch?v=foOwrYi-XDAHow often are you getting hard lock up like that? Mine has bugs, but I think it has only locked up one time. Your sources do look fairly normal so I do not think that is the issue. I had a Marantz AV8802A before the RMC-1 and for sure the Marantz was 100% more reliable and easier to use, but it could not hold a candle to the RMC sound wise. I still maintain that if I wanted a pre-pro for my living room that my wife could use with no issues I would get a Marantz and just call it good. My RMC-1 is in a dedicated theater room so I am okay with some of the bugs just because man it sounds good. I don't view the lack of DIRAC right now to me a huge thing since the unit sounds so good without it I do not feel like I am missing much. That being said if you are having that amount of lock ups it is unacceptable. It may be worth calling Emotiva and seeing about swapping the unit out under warranty if they deem the issue to be that severe.

Not a deal breaker if I have to just pull the projector HDMI and swap in the other monitor when I need to use it. It’s only for tinkering, and REW, and possibly Dirac. I’m assuming once I learn the software and get results I’m happy with then I will rarely have to use it anyway.

Everyone loves a Happy Ending...
So back on Page 20 of this thread I posted about owning an XMC-1 and not really sure about upgrading to the RMC-1L due to all the mediocre experiences I had with the XMC-1 including reboots, once bricking the unit, lack of consistent functionality, etc. At the time I really did feel I was rolling the dice by giving Emotiva more money, even if the upgrade was a good deal.
I'm happy to report that my new RMC-1L works GREAT! No more waiting to see if it will properly turn on or get stuck, no more problems with switching inputs, this thing JUST WORKS CONSISTENTLY as should be expected. When not using it I leave it in standby mode, CEC off (family-proofing it) and couldn't be happier. Roku, AppleTV FireTV, Oppo DVD all work great.. no complaints. As for Dirac I didn't really care for it when I had it on my XMC-1; I didn't like how the corrections sounded, so I'm not losing sleep about waiting for this feature to materialize.
So anyone with a crappy XMC-1 who's on the fence about upgrading, I'd say go for it!

So happy to hear, my XMC-1 is in route to Emotiva for inspection / upgrade to the RMC-1L as well. Can’t wait to hear it and added 4 height speakers / amps to the upgrade while I was at it

Makes it much less of an issue now, bc I’ll only need it to confirm Dirac results then. Also, I’ve got some other ideas to try that may make it more reliable. And in all fairness this was a problem with my marantz also through the front hdmi port.

I don’t actually think it’s hanged as in bugged, I believe it’s lagging like this crazy and don’t react to anything. One time it wasn’t reacting at all, I let it be for 10-15minutes and suddenly it started to react to the commands I had sent several minutes ago.
