This is just a wild guess because I'm not familiar with Panasonic UB420. When watching Netflix you're "probably" watching at 1080P (unless you've sprung for their highest tier, and even then if your internet speeds are not up to 2160P, Netflix will downgrade resolution automatically). When you swap to a 4k UHD movie, you are forcing a 4K signal and your cables are not up to it. They are ok for 1080P but not 2160P. I know you said you were using "certified" cables, but how old are they. Anything not made in the last two years or so is probably not certified by HDMI.org. You need cables that are labeled "Premium" or "Ultra" high speed and carry the proper certification label from HDMI.org. Your problem shows all the signs of HDMI handshaking problems. The two units fail to negotiate because the cables do net have the bandwidth to carry the 4K signal. I had the Marantz AV7704 and it would sometimes downgrade the resolution. I would feed it a 4K signal but my projector said it was projecting at 1080. That's when I started researching cables and ended up with BlueJeans premium HDMI cables. Problems went away. Like I said, this is just a wild guess, my two cents worth. I think this is exactly right. I am signed up for the high speed netflix plan, but I believe the menu might be in a lower resolution or at the very least just standard sdr. I believe that's part of the reason I could get the mc1 to detect the signal (or rather get the hdmi cable to pass the signal). I changed the cable out for a certified monoprice hdmi cable and it was much more stable today. Not ready to give up on this quirky unit just yet!!

Unfortunately, the issues I was having with the MC1 returned! I’m Using all monoprice certified hdmi cables. The problem seems to be worse for my ub420, ATV4k, and Amazon firestick! Initiated my return last week! It was my first experience with emotiva and I’m afraid it will be my last…. Really had high hopes for this thing though! Best of luck to you all!

If I’m really into HT stuff I would pick the tv first and then the processor. If it has the SQ that I like, I would add a BR player and go from there. All the other streamers, cable boxes, PC stuff and HDMI devices will be the first thing to replace with an alternative if my TV/projector/Processor combo doesn't like it.

The 1st thing to do would have been to decrease the 420;s bandwidth by limiting it to 24p rather than the 60p it likes to put out 'and see if your cables hold up Similarly i read that the apple 4k can also run at 30hz ;also worth a try . Its a shame in some ways though the mc1 isnt hdmi 2.1 compliant so I hope you pick something compatible going forward depending on your needs

It wouldn’t power on/off with my devices.

The av7705 and sr6013 I had in there before also didn’t suffer from these issues. I’m using the exact same devices and the exact same cables I was last using with my Mc1. I literally did a direct swap with the 6700h. I was probably just one of the few to receive a defective unit. Honestly, the one bad experience was enough to send me crying back to sound United. Fwiw, some of the other issues I had with the unit have also been corroborated by others on avs. For example, when I fast forward too quickly or change sound modes, I would sometimes hear a screeching sound from my speakers. Also, the fact that it would take like 10 seconds to change inputs was a bit annoying. Anyway, I’m glad you guys got a unit on good working condition! Holy listening!!

That makes sense getting a defective unit . FWIW I had a umc200 that was fine and I had a look at its successor the mc700 and its hdmi foibles so I too am with another CE now It prevents a lot of long term heartache using the 30day return as many gen3 xmc owners may possibly attest

What happens when you connect the source direct to the TV using the same hdmi cable you had attached to the Emo output? I'm having problems getting a new 4K firestick to work with the MC-1 unless I use the firestick's "can't see anything change resolution technique" to change it down to 720p, OR change the MC-1's HDMI option to Standard (1.4) in which case I get 1080p. BUT I have the same problem when I connect the firestick to the TV using the same cable, and no problem when connected direct into an input on the LG OLED. Clearly therefore the problem is my in-wall HDMI 1.4 cable, which sadly would not be an easy change... Interestingly I have no problem with a Roku Ultra passing 4K 60Hz HDR via the MC-1, so go figure - perhaps the firestick is extra picky.

Just wanted to follow up on my issues I was having with my MC1. I sent my unit back and asked for a full refund. As many of you know, people usually have to pay return shipping when returning items to emotiva. They must have confirmed the issues that I was having with it and deemed it defective because they issued me a full refund today. I guess I was just one of the unlucky few that got a defective unit. FWIW, my 6700h is working beautifully with the same hdmi cables and components.

The screen went dead and became useless. Many many friends here in the lounge swear by them. Stuff happens and sometimes you (I) get a dud. Good luck in the future. I will again try AC Infinity in the future.

New MC-1 owner here. Received the unit Friday and set everything up over the weekend. The only issue I've run into is the trigger-out will not operate my Stewart film screen. I've ordered a ET-3 which I hope will provide the proper signal for the motorized screen. The rest of my 5.1 system is a Audiocontrol Pantages G4 5ch amp and ATC HTS11/HTS7 speakers + sub.
Anyone had issues with the trigger out? It triggers my amp, but not the screen. Strange.
UPDATE: I installed the ET-3 and trigger control for my Stewart Screen has been restored. Thanks Emotiva!

Interesting catching up here, only just realized the MC-1 finally dropped Q4 last year!? Annoying, as last year I contacted Emotiva via several avenues begging for how to best be notified about when the new "BasX" processor would be released, and apparently none of the methods they suggested (subscribe to our email spam! follow on S.M.!) put the MC-1 release on my radar. Since they were clammed up tighter than a CIA press officer, I had been about to bite the bullet on new Denon gear but instead I took my Fusion 8100 and MC-200's apart yet again and re-serviced the capacitors again, and they are back to working fine again / for now.
As for the MC-1 - well, as a 3-time processor purchaser, it indeed does sound like a "S.O.P." release for Emotiva aka now we're in the bug-zone waiting for things to shake out. I guess I'll keep riding along on the old gear for a bit and hope they sort things.

I think the lack of complaints on this forum reflects the fact that there seem to be remarkably few problems with the MC-1... I'm very pleased with mine - the quirks I had with my dead MC700 are gone and it seems like a very creditable replacement. Of course YMMV.

Other than the quirk with the trigger-out, my MC1 is performing as advertised. I performed the EMO-Q room correction which produced a flat but bright sound. I've been warming things up to taste as ATC my speakers are very revealing. Watched The Batman last night, very impressed with the huge sound I got. Good VFM in my opinion since I'm only running a 5.1 system and didn't want to spend $5K on a processor.

I have been very happy with my MC1. The only real issue, if you can call it that, is that after running EMOQ the bass was really hot. I went into the PEQ to dial it back and have been really happy with the results ever since. I have not had any issues with long switching times between HDMI inputs, audio drop outs or screeching when fast forwarding video. I do not use CEC or eArc which seem to be the culprits with those that do have issues.
I am very impressed with the channel separation. I've read others saying this and was curious to find out for myself if there was really any difference between this and my previous AVR and am happy to say there certainly is. I am hearing details that I had never heard before as well. Is this because it is strictly a processor and it does a better job at these things or is it that the EQ results are just different from previous AVR? I dunno but they are obvious.
Long story short is that the value here is phenomenal and the performance is much more than adequate.

I received my MC1 last week, and it has been great so far. Currently set up as 5.1.4 with a 15" sub and it absolutely rocks. I've had an issue with eARC dropouts (to the point of eARC not being usable and not negotiating the correct stream type much of the time), but I think that is due to my 2020 Samsung TV and the known eARC issues there and not the MC1. Turning off eARC on the TV and using ARC works great and I get Atmos content from all of my SmartTV apps via DD+, which is all the apps support anyway. Since the vast majority of my content is via streaming apps on the TV itself, this was very important to me and I'm glad it's working well.
Other things of note: -I've played lossless content using a laptop with VLC Media Player. Atmos/TrueHD and DTS:X both work without issues. -EmoQ seems to work fine. It properly set the distances and levels on each speaker. I'm thinking the EQ part could be improved with some tweaks but it's a good starting point. The EmoQ EQ settings can be easily adjusted for each speaker so no problem there. -No issues changing HDMI ports - everything works as it should. -No issues with CEC volume control from the TV, or with trigger outputs (though trigger is to Emotiva amps only).
Overall, I couldn't be happier. This is EXACTLY what I wanted, without lots of features that I won't use. Thanks Emotiva!

Having trouble with my Comcast Xfinity remote not having the 'code(s)' for my MC1. Anybody know what other piece of equipment that is exactly the same IR codes so I can get my Comcast remote to do simple functions such as adjusting the volume on my MC1?

It's very unlikely that you will find a Comcast code that will control your MC-1, many of us have gone to Harmony remotes for controlling multiple devices with a single remote. Though they've now been discontinued, you may still be able to find one new or used. You might get CEC to work for volume.

You might try tone winner At300. I’ve heard they are similar build. Or can the comcast remote “learn” a few functions? Harmony is still the best way to go if you can find one
