Any chance Emotiva will release a pre-pro with fewer than 13.2 channels—soon? Isn’t there still a market for small house/townhome/apartment HT enthusiasts who like to run separates? I think the likelihood of another processor of any type ‘soon’ is very low (non-existent?). While there may be a market for processors without Atmos, I think most who are looking to save money by purchasing fewer channels would probably buy an AVR. I’d doubt that creating a separate product for that market would be profitable for Emotiva. I suppose I’m just trying to wish it into existence. Every time I turn around another 83” OLED owner is planning to use the TV as a center channel or they’re asking about the soundbars. JP

Isn’t there still a market for small house/townhome/apartment HT enthusiasts who like to run separates? That was the Emotiva MC-700, although a 7.1 not 5.1, now gone for good. If you can put up with its limitations (plenty to be found about the MC-700 on this forum), a used one might be available. I had an opportunity to pick up a low mileage UMC-200, but opted to keep the bandaid. Maybe, if the universe is reading this, something cool will pop up at CES! :-) JP

Traditional HDMI-ARC can bitstream lower bandwidth (compressed) formats up to Dolby Digital Plus. Atmos is also supported within a DD+ transport. eARC is “full bandwidth” and can pass every format currently available. However, if you own a 2020 or newer LG or Samsung television, eARC cannot decode or pass through any DTS format. On those displays, the full potential of eARC has been royally screwed. I'm gathering that without eARC there is no way to get high bandwidth audio from a TV to the processor. So, another way to get high bandwidth audio from the streaming platforms is either via a Blu-ray or other device that supports streaming connected to the processor using HDMI? I'm still new to the latest technologies, learning new stuff every day.

I'm still new to the latest technologies, learning new stuff every day. Actually, you don’t get “high bandwidth” (lossless) audio from any streaming app… period. It doesn’t matter if those apps are internalized on your TV’s smart platform or located on an external disc player or streamer. The audio from any steaming app is “compressed” (typically DD+ or DD+ w/Atmos) and you don’t need eARC to pass that. Traditional HDMI-ARC will do the job just fine if your original intent was to use the smart platform on your TV. Where eARC becomes relevant (and irreplaceable) is when we attach a source device (like a disc player and/or gaming console) directly to the TV and need a way to transport the lossless hi-rez audio found on those physical discs through the television and out to the AVP or AVR for decoding and processing. The whole concept behind eARC was/is to provide a means of replacing only that one single component that always seems to be in a constant state of evolution… our displays. By making use of the internal eARC enabled HDMI switching system within the display, you would never need to upgrade your audio processor until it’s absolutely necessary to do so… or… never have to wait for an “ upgraded” HDMI board for the processor you already own (if it is hardware upgradable) that will inevitably introduce a whole new laundry list of bugs…

The MC-1 has the DSU and Neural:X upmixers that even 5.1 and 7.1 systems can benefit from, not to mention 4K. It really seems like a well featured base level processor, even if you don’t use all the channels.

Anyone know if this processor can be controlled by a Harmony remote? It surely can, someone will just have to get the codes to Logitech. It even has an IR in for direct connection to Harmony Hub based remotes.

And if you buy a used one you get stuck with old HDMI versions (if that is a problem, it may not be). At less than $1,000 the MC-1 sure looks like a great deal, at least on paper.

Both with good points! I think even Outlaw stopped their series of processors. I had forgotten about the 25% Upgrade for Life program! I was reminded about that when reading other threads. IIRC, Emotiva keeps that information on file. I’ll give them a call. JP

Does anyone know if the display on the MC-1 any larger than the display on the UMC-200? Looking at old archival photos of the UMC-200, they appear to be about the same size...

That's what it looks like to me but in the MC-1 Manual they state "large bright blue front panel VFD display" so I was hoping is was larger than the UMC-200.

New entry level BasX 13.2 MC-1 Processor coming December 15 for reservations It will have a new improved Emo Q with Earc and Atmos. It comes with something we’ve been asking for for a very long time, a back-lit remote. $999.00 list price. Any interest in this? Any instant buyers? I hope they offer a back-lit remote for all of the processors soon! When will the internet have a review of the Mc1? Have to wait till its out to the public in Jan?

It all boils down to "do I want this piece and am I willing to pay the asking price for it?" I've owned a few Emotiva processors and the track record at least for me has been about 50-50. So I won't be purchasing one, at least not in the beginning. Amps are great. Processors not so much!! We all have different experiences and perspectives depending on how we use the gear and what equipment we own. I have not yet ventured into Atmos. I don’t use ARC/CEC. So far I have been very happy with the XMC-1 and now XMC-2. Amps are great and the processors have been fine. Just my .02. I still can't understand how anyone who actually understands what the bass bug does for your low frequencies can say they are happy with their XMC-2/RMCXX.

This is my first post so I hope I am doing this correctly.
I went for the MC1 and did my pre-order. Looks great for my requirements and the price is very reasonable. But I have one issue that is not a deal breaker for me but on the negative side. The DAC spec looks very bad at only 16/48k. CD quality DAC on a present day pre-amp is really not acceptable. I already have a great DAC from Cambridge so will be using that instead. Most likely a cost savings move ......... but there are plenty of great low cost chips out there that can handle 24/192K ...... blast. Other then this ...... the product looks fantastic! Hope it ships in January.
I am looking forward to pairing this up with my XPA Gen3 and BasX amps! Will initially be running it at 9.1 with SVS Prime Pinnacle's for the mains and a combination of Cerwin Vega and Emotiva for the surrounds/height.
Cheers!
-Dale

This is actually not surprising at all IMO.. Most people actually like more bass.. Even though this bug affects more than just the levels.. I would think the crossover is affected as well.. I remember us having a pretty bad bug with DTS Neural:X a while back.. Most people didn’t notice a thing wrong with it.. Even when told about it.. That bug was even worse than this one as it affected the whole sound stage. When Emotiva finally fixed it there was almost nothing mentioned about the issue. That one took about a year or so to get fixed. Emotiva even saying there’s no problem with it up until they released the fix. I also think most people also don’t hear any difference other than slightly higher level of bass. It’s only a select few that can discern such details.
