Thanks Dann, and for all you do for us here at the Lounge, Merry Christmas! Horsecrap... I hate Dann!!! ;D Here I am in the equivilent of a mid-life crisis in trying to make the right decision in my Emotiva speaker choices... and Dann has to go dump out the idea of yet bigger Ref ERT. Geesh now what do I do.... ps. I really don't hate you Dann... but what the heck... all this Improvement stuff. 1st I find out that Blue tape is better then yellow tape, then that there is Quiet Velcro, now potentially better ERTs coming "down the pike". My life is a mess!!! Ha! Well, the 'concept' of a bigger ERT is just that...a concept. Not sure how far off it would be. Later next year, maybe? I think the thought would be a 'beefier' sounding speaker, mostly, maybe with 10s instead of 8s in the woofer department, other than that, I haven't heard anything. My favorite is still the 6.2's, honestly, with a decent sub.

I was asking what they do and why this would be an upgrade, or at least noticeable upgrade

Here's the 10 and 12 side by side, shown with our new mascot 'Ghengis' atop the 10 for scale. Ghengis is a full grown Siberian tiger, 43 inches high at the shoulder, and weighing 430 pounds. LOL!!! ROFLMAO!!! This had me crying! GREAT caption...and great looking subs too!!! ;D ;D ;D

That kitty better be litter box trained... I think I see a mini-puddle on top of that Ultra 10?

Not to sound too rude I have nothing against Emotiva staff but really I wish they would just stick with the administration section of the boards. I have noticed anyone coming across as the least bit negative at all towards E gets completely ignored with legitimate questions or the thread gets closed. Like I said, I have nothing against the staff or Dan or whoever but really they wouldn't be taking some things so personally if they werent reading every post. I know what some will say, that its what makes them so great that they do,,,well NO it really doesnt. If they want to give news or answer questions then they should have a section dedicated for that. I really admired them for having the sandbox in the first place then they deleted that too! Lol

What will make them better bigred? I am not familiar with sub designs whoops sorry I missed this, snodog. FYI I am in no way "putting down" your sub or anything like that, I am just answering your question in the most descriptiver terms possible. The Paradigm PDR's just dont dig very deep. The ouput on them is subpar. Distortion begins to get out of control when pushed. I cannot confirm my assumption though because obviously the Ultra subs have not been released. But i did hear them at emofest and i can tell you they are superior to the PDR's (I deal with PDR's on a daily basis so i feel comfortable with my statement). Let me know if you want any other opinions.

Thats awesome Bigred thanks, that is what I was wondering. I did hear before that Paradigm subs (the PDR series at any rate) were not the best but do you think these would compare to the likes of Velodyne then? I will more than likely buy one when they are released

How does the PDR compare to Velodyne? Well i would say the PDR is very similar to the Impact series from Velodyne.

However, I think the Elemental Designs A5s-300 is pretty formidable in price and specs.. check it out.. www.edesignaudio.com/product_info.php?cPath=2_41&products_id=681

I've never heard of that brand but it looks like a solid sub. I do really like the balanced input on the Emotiva as well as the detachable cord, not that it is a big deal but seems like I have had some times I wished I had it on my current one.

The PDR series is essentially Paradigms entry level sub...good for small bedroom/den systems but not that great for main hometheater. At that price point, there are a number of options out there that are probably just as good.

yes, there are certain things the Emo subs will give you. Whereas the ED sub does not have an xlr input, it goes lower in frequency (as per specs).

I'm sure these will be great subs, but for $499 I purchased an MFW-15 which is incredible for the money not to mention very attractive in WAF. These EMO subs will have some pretty stiff competition.

I was about to say the same thing. I contemplated the MFW sub, but their amp issues are abundant for me to stay clear of them.

Second one had one of the bad amps, but the amp was replaced with their current amps. Works perfectly.... For the price they're hard to beat. Absolutely incredible. But that's just me.

I owned a MFW-15 for awhile and never had an issue BUT i know many people are still experiencing issues. People are not only having amp issues these days, but people are getting subs sent to them with drivers already stiffened up, many have received subs without screws to hold the drivers in (or they screw holes are stripped or some screws are missing), and others are seeing veneer issues with these subs. I am glad to see that Mark Seaton will be offering the MFW "Turbo" which is a driver and amp upgrade.
