The Conjuring 3 The Devil Made me Do It
Sequels often don’t fly. Sometimes they’re SO bad I pretend they were NEVER made so they don’t spoil the original.
The 3rd installment of The Conjuring is not one of those. Great finale for this trilogy and killer creepy sound track. Lots of whisper quiet to blow your head off moments that works great in a horror flick.

Got this set a week or so ago, and I started my Underworld movie-fest last night! The middle three movie's, which weren't previously available on UHD-bluray, received audio upgrades to Dolby Atmos tracks and thus far, they also look to have more defined blacks(which makes total sense because of the dark environments the movies are filmed). Will be taking the afternoon off from the "Underworld", and catching a matinee showing of "Eternals" at the local AMC IMAX theater with friends.

Just finished watching The Matrix Resurrections, 2 hours 27 minutes I’ll never get back. 🍿 One popcorn because I watched it to the end. I should have listened to the Mrs.

What did you see and/or not see in the first movie? We had enough (pick an antonym: deficient, drained, exhausted, impoverished, inadequate, insufficient, mean, miserly, narrow, niggardly, poor, scant, scanty, scarce, scrimped, short, small, sparing, stingy, straitened) with the first movie.

True, there was enough. Didn’t come close to capturing the magic.

Okay I liked the movie. I'd say I liked it better than Reloaded for sure. But here's an interesting thing ... I watched on AppleTV with the HBO Max app and the sound did not sound right. I kept turning it up louder until it was at least 5-6db higher level than I normally watch Atmos content, and it still seemed to lack dynamics and sounded dull. So I did what I do ... science! The problem was reminiscent of what I observed watching the first episode of last season of Thrones a couple years ago using the AppleTV HBO app. Lack of dynamic range, lower levels overall, and somewhat dull in the highs. Back then I Goog'ed and found others complaining and saying that the HBO stream through Prime was better. So I got a free trial on Prime and watched through the AppleTV Prime app (same hardware at least). Clearly the stream through Prime was better, so I cancelled HBO through its app and have been using Prime ever since. But in September, Amazon said they no longer would provide HBO. So I had to go back to a subscription through the HBO app. It so happens, though, that I bought the Matrix Trilogy on iTunes a year ago and watched the movies over again in 4K Dolby Vision and Atmos. And it so happens that HBO is now streaming the Trilogy in 4K Dolby Vision and Atmos coinciding with release of Resurrections. So I did an experiment using a scene from the first movie with a lot of dynamic range and deep thunder … the scene when Neo gets out of the car and goes into the room to meet Morpheus. Using the REW RTA with Peak Hold and no decay I played the scene from iTunes and from HBO Max. I found conclusively that the HBO Max stream was at least 5db quieter! This fits with what I did Wednesday watching Resurrection, raising levels a little at a time until I had gone from my usual -12 for Atmos movies up to around -8 … and it still sounded kind of dull. I also believe I can see high frequencies rolling off on the HBO Max stream about 2-3db above 500Hz, and maybe a slight difference in dynamic range on some peaks. In any case, the volume difference is confirmed by the numbers. The attached overlayed plot was done playing iTunes at -12db in green and HBO Max at -7db red. I also think the difference in high frequencies is confirmed looking at the difference in green and red traces above 500Hz. And some peaks are higher with iTunes.

I think we need to update the name of this thread or have a separate one for streaming... Another great series... great acting... bunch of plot twists... as with most British shows, well worth watching... www.imdb.com/title/tt2201227/

I was quite pleased with this latest Daniel Craig "BOND" movie, which also is his last as Bond. Both video and audio, IMO, were quite good, though in all fairness, this is one of the first UHD bluray movies that I have completely watched since having my 77in Sony OLED professionally ISF calibrated.

How did u find someone to do it? I ultimately found a few professional ISF calibrators over on the AVS Forum. It just so happens that one of the members here on the Lounge and lives close to me had their plasma panels calibrated by ChadB and I actually got to see him do his magic before choosing to have my last 2 panels plus my current 65in LG C8 and 77in Sony A80J calibrated. He travels and goes on calibrating tours, so you'll have to contact him to see when his next tour in your area is(if you live in an area he services). Check out his website below and it should answer any and all questions you'll have. www.hdtvbychadb.com

Best Atmos moment was when my wife ducked when the shield flew at her.

Rented the Blu-ray from RedBox. Had considered buying the UHD Blu-ray but glad I rented instead. The Dolby Atmos track was solid but active mainly in the bed channels. Video is 2.39:1 aspect ratio, had hoped for an IMAX presentation. Mostly darker scenes but if your panel has been ISF calibrated, the darker scenes will have better definition. I’m sure the uhd Blu-ray with Dolby Vision or HDR10 would’ve been an improvement, though I don’t think the desert brown settings would’ve been much better.
