After watching them back to back... it got me thinking... who would win in a battle? Mr. McCall or Mr. Wick... Neither, it would be like Saturday morning Kung Fu where the 2 masters punch each other and create a "plasma ball" that sends them backwards (sliding on their feet of course) giving them a mutual appreciation for each other's skills. This was last nights feature. Fun and mildly enjoyable but not up to Ritchie's usual awesomeness. Scott

Very well done storyline, acting etc. The only thing that threw me was the early 70s music that popped up in the first 1/3 of the movie. Like are we theming a Vietnam era flick or what?

Ha, I don't recall the 70s music, but I'm glad you enjoyed the movie!

Interesting factoids that I read about (before watching this movie): 1. It was Teamsters' Union pension fund money that allowed the Chicago mafia to get their first toehold in Las Vegas 2. Most of the characters in this movie were based on real life people 3. Most of the situations in this movie actually happened 4. Since the late 1980s the FBI & the Las Vegas Gaming Commission have (mostly) erased mob influence 5. The mafia has taken up the slack by dominating State and Indian casinos

Further thoughts on the movie "Sicario" -
I didn't much like this movie (too violent & gritty), but I can't seem to get it out of my mind. After further consideration, I think that what "confuses" me about this movie is the deliberate ambiguity. Who are the good guys? Who are the bad guys? Why?
The movie hides the motives of many of the main characters (particularly those of "Alexandro," the cartel lawyer turned revenge seeker), and doles them out sparingly throughout the course of the movie.
But even once you understand the hidden motives of the characters, there are no purely good or purely evil people - only those with more or less willingness to do what's necessary to achieve their goals. Whether they're "good" or "bad" is left to the viewer to assess after understanding their rationale for what the characters do (or don't do).
Even the most "evil" characters have some stripes of humanity in them, and even the most stirling characters have their own flaws. The only purely innocent in the movie are the children, but even they get frequently sacrificed to the motives of the adults and the tides of the wider world.
I can say, however, that the actors all gave GREAT performances, and the viewer is left with the bizarre collage of cowboys, rule-followers, and innocent bystanders mixed into the confusing plot. I may even have to watch this one again sometime after the original impressions get fully-baked.

Dolby official Atmos demo discs from 2014 and 2015. The 2015 disc has some especially good content, music videos, movie scenes, Dolby demo videos, etc.

I hear physical media is dead ... long live physical media! So I'm doing the best I can.
The Atmos sound track on this series is one of the best I've ever heard. Very well-used spatial effects and excellent dynamic range.

I hear physical media is dead ... long live physical media! So I'm doing the best I can. The Atmos sound track on this series is one of the best I've ever heard. Very well-used spatial effects and excellent dynamic range. Follow up .... We binged it in three nights, 3-2-3. Definitely one of the best series I've watched ... ever. Definitely one of the top 3-4 Atmos mixes I've ever heard ... maybe THE best, and that includes anything on the Dolby Demo Disk. Many sound engineers are still mixing Atmos as though it was channel-based surround with top speakers. They don't think 3D space, they think "what speaker should this sound come from", or "I can put thunder and helicopters up there". Not just my opinion ... many pros have commented on this. And many distribution channels require Atmos, while many production channels refuse to allow adequate budget, often relegating the Atmos mix to whatever time is left after they do a 5.1. And yeah, they sell a lot of soundbars and most people are probably satisfied that if it SAYS Atmos it IS Atmos. But not most of us, right But this series brings the sounds out from the wall and down from the ceiling. There are very quiet subtle sounds that move around the room. And there are big scary impacts - tastefully placed - that don't just happen front and center but actually make sense in the space ... when something lands on the floor in front of you, it's on the floor in front of you. It's also a great series to subjectively evaluate your speaker balance. I meticulously try to balance them to less than a decibel using the tracks from Spatial Audio Toolkit. But my ears and the room can alter the perceived balance too. Overall I have dinked the rears and surrounds up 2db, but listening to this series I brought the rears back down 1. Subtle, but effective.
