Jeez, these updates on the FW are really disappointing to read. Seems like a real PIA to do this update correctly. Agreed. I think I'm gonna ask them about sending it in. If you don't have a computer near your home theater, you have to disconnect the whole thing to have it close enough to update. They said a 24 hour turn-around, however once you put Fedex ground on each side of this turnaround, plus coordination of shipping it out and being there to sign for it when it's shipped back, it becomes a bigger process, and you end up without a home theater for awhile, and for those of us with projectors, it means no TV sound at all. And, what if we have to do this multiple times to deal with multiple firmware updates? People are already talking about items they don't believe are fixed? I can't believe I'm starting to miss my 885 already.... This is why I opted out of getting my UMC until these updates were done. I have a Mac and honestly I don't really understand a lot of what is said here about the updates. I just want a working unit and not have to worry about getting this program or that program to do this or that. My computer is not in my listening room, so any future updates will have to be done with me tearing down my whole set up. Ugh, really kills the joy of getting this unit. I don't mean to be a downer about it, but I am not used to having to do any sort of updates with any of my gear. I guess I have been lucky with what I have. I am thinking my current AVR may be a better fit, but I don't want to count out the UMC just yet. I will read the updates from all the owners very carefully in the next few days. BTW, Thanks to Lonnie for answering everyone's questions here. Very cool of you to be here for all of us!

I guess then Emo would be stuck with "B" stock, even though it is updated. Well, I have not even tried the update yet. One step at time. Whatever it takes, we'll get-r-done.

If they could do this, I'd glady pay shipping to get "my" UMC-1 to them, it'd be worth it to avoid tearing the system down....

I'm also having major problems getting this update to load correctly. I have tried using two different computers. One running XP and one running win7 64bit. Xp installs the drivers, but I get numerous errors as mentioned in previous threads when trying to run the update upg file. can never make it anywhere close to getting through the installation. In win7 64 the system hangs when trying to load the driver. More or less freezes on Copying driver files. I say more or less because the system isn't hung, but no usb devices are working (so no mouse/keyboard) and after half an hour it isn't finished copying driver files. Attempting to run program in safe mode right now, but that appears to be a bust as well. I'm gonna try running xp in safe mode and see if that helps at all... beyond that I'm at a loss. I finally forced my Win7 x64 to reach this point. Do this, after waiting at least 10 minutes or so (so that the code has time to execute), hit ctrl-shift-esc. This should show the Task Manager icon in the Notify section in the lower-right. Task Manager likely will not appear, though. Wait another minute, and hit ctrl-alt-del. You should see a message pop up in the background, cancel the Lock window and the message should be warning you about installing an unsigned driver. Go ahead and click install this driver and it should finally complete successfully. This update is based on old-technique, crappy Windows code. I'm not "bashing" here, but it is clearly not an every-man's upgrade. I think some people will ultimately have to send their units in for upgrade. I think that it will become a business decision for Emotiva. Is it costing more in shipping, man hours and image to do upgrades for folks that can't get it to work, or do we fix the upgrade process? Guess my machines a little different. My usb ports lock up when it's trying to load the driver, which means I can't use my mouse or keyboard, which in turn means I can't get task manager booted up. Guess I'll just have to wait for the link to the 64 bit software to be posted.

We are happy to take care of it for you and will turn it around as quickly as possible. Is Emotiva picking up the shipping both ways on this? Just curious before I add another phone call to they fray there.

OK, anyone have any luck trying to install this using bootcamp on OS X? The installer just hangs for me. OK, after a reinstall, and millions of updates and waiting forever for things to install the installer seems to be running. Now to find a cable to give it a shot. Thanks to Rayovac for jumping in and offering to help, really appreciate it.

Sorry, USB is not possible with the system as the loader software converts the Hex code to binary and as it loads it sends packets, processor confirms back to the computer it recieved the packets, sends more, confrms, etc. So it is not as simple as just uploading a file. So for those of us without the ability or who are unable to perform these updates, can you provide more detail as to other options available to complete this update? Thanks. Give us a call, we will take care of it for you.

Give us a call, we will take care of it for you. Just called...for anyone thinking of sending it in, figure you'll be without it for around a week as they'll only do ground shipping each way, so even with a 24 hour turnaround you'll be looking at about a week without it... Just an FYI for anyone thinking of sending it in....

For you folks without a laptop or using a mac lets try thinking outside the box. Have neighbor or buddy with a windows laptop? Give them a call. Sounds pretty simple to me.

Thanks for all your hard work to bring us what I'm confident will turn out to be a very capable pre/pro at an unbelievable price. Do hope there will be a way for Mac users to apply the updates without borrowing a PC.

Will the process of updating the UMC-1 be the same for all future upgrades? Or is Emotiva looking at future updates that can be done via the net like Oppo, Denon and latest released Onkyo/Integra units?
