Well, I just heard back from EMO tech support after sending in an e-mail about this issue. The unit(s) they have in house do not show this anomaly with AP generated sources or music sources on the 44.1 multiple resolutions. So far stustan seems to be the only other one experiencing this issue. Could anyone so inclined please check the conditions reported above (CD over digital, set to stereo) to see if they experience the same problem? Please report back to this thread, as I pointed the tech to it in the e-mail. Thnaks Well, I don't have the SAME issue as you, (rythmic clicking in the right front speaker), but I do have an issue with CD's and 44.1 resolutions. I just get complete audio dropout. I have the UMC-1 set to direct, not stereo.

Oh, I see. Maybe a different manifestation of the same underlying issue. Thanks, Darien.

FYI, I just played a CD via my Blu Ray machine (Sony BDP S560) which I don't normally do, with the UMC-1 set to "Stereo." I got great 2-channel music with no strange issues. Tried fast forwarding, skipping tracks, etc. and it was solid. I also connected the coax digital output from my Squeezebox directly to one of the digital inputs on the UMC-1 and got the same results, no strange issues. As an aside, the DAC in the UMC-1 is surprisingly good sounding, although I prefer the sound of my tube buffered DAC.

It does sound good, the cable on direct sounds great. I think the 2 channel sounds really good on analog. I do wish though that they would have kept the all channel stereo. It is just a nice mix. The neo and plxII suck in my honest opinion

I have an older Yamaha CD changer connected to the UMC coax 1 input. I had no issues playing some music in direct or stereo mode. In fact..in sounded pretty damn awesome...definite improvement over Pioneer Elite from 2006.

I was briefly listening to some CDs yesterday, but didn't see this thread until today. I didn't notice anything, but I'll try it out tonight, and see if I notice anything.
How obvious is it?
My source is an Oppo DV 980H over HDMI.

My source is an Oppo DV 980H over HDMI. I noticed it immediately, try some vocal music or softer music (not in volume, just in genre). It seems to be the righthand speaker in the 2 confirmed cases I know of. Happens about every second. I even got it when switching from SACD 5.1 track to SACD 2.0 track via HDMI.

only six people have digital hook-ups? :-)
For those that have PS3, please note that there are bitstream settings that allow you to chose between 44.1/88.2/176.4 and 48/96/192 bit rates. The problem seems to be with the 44.1 etc.. setting. I just got a slim PS3 last night, but have not had a chance to test that, yet.

The UMC-1 display showed 44.1khz and I got the same audio dropouts as with the PS 3. So it sure seems to be a frequency output issue.

I have an update playing CD's on my PS3. I tried this connection scheme and had success with Direct Mode and Stereo Mode:
PS3 (original 20g fatboy, upgraded hard drive) connected via Optical, (not HDMI as previously) to UMC-1 (Upgraded Firmware).
Stereo (2 channel) Linear PCM to UMC-1 results:
176.4 Direct Mode = good plybck, Stereo Mode = good plybck.
I will try other sample rates via optical Linear PCM as soon as I can figure out a video connection from my PS3. UMC does not permit HDMI video input simultaneously with optical audio input, (Lonnie can comment if I am wrong).
Oh and one further clarification. My usage of "Good plybck" in this and my previous post should have been "correct plybck". The audio description of "good plybck" is "sounds wonderful and beautiful".
Will return with new findings.

All my devices are connected via HDMI and work flawlessly. EmoQ worked well and I am leaving it alone for now. No sound issues noted and I really like the way it sounds. 44.1/88.2/96 Khz are great. sACD and CD...no issues. I'm running it alot lately as I gave myself a 5 day weekend. Just loving life right now!
