The dog always ate my white papers so I had nothing to turn in the next day in class. Oops, no offense to your avatar.. The way I look at it - the bottom line is going to be how does the gear sound because it can have the most wonderful explanation on paper and sound horrible, or vice versa. And no one is going to accept, "but on paper it is supposed to be terrific." That said, I know some folks like to read the technical stuff so more power to them. Me, I'm just waiting for the XMC-1 like I decided I would not too long ago.. but now, also the XSP-1.. and the XDA-2. Next audio show I am keeping my eyes closed. Now I'm expecting a post from Big Dan or Lonnie soon telling us that they would have posted the white papers but the dog ate them. ;D Exactly!!!! Lots of sports teams have had a great lineup on paper but couldn't or didn't perform on the field!! For me, white papers are nice to read and many times very informative. BUT actual performance is obviously what matters, not what the white paper says. My thought is that we'll hear from the first run of XMC users about their performance and the rest of us will base our buying decisions off those first reports, or not!! I'm not interested in being one of the first. I want to hear what the performace is like first. Yes, I am somewhat skeptical because of my previous personal experience with Emo processors (both the LMC & UMC) and I am proud of it and sticking to my position........ ;D But I do love their amps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good analogy about the sports teams. People can endlessly argue about how ON PAPER the Patriots should have won the Super Bowl last year, but... Thing is, I hope not all of us are sitting back waiting for the first reviews of the XMC-1 to come in before buying it ourselves (note to Ed - see, I did not say "taking the plunge" or "pulling the trigger" ;D ) and no one buys it, haha. As for the folks who keep asking about how TACT will be implemented, what version, complaining about an "old" technology being used - (1) Audyssesy is no spring chicken and if you ask me, it sucks anyway from all angles; (2) no matter how good TACT will sound/be implemented in the XMC-1 I bet we will have those naysayers who keep looking at the white paper exclaiming that it cannot possibly sound good because it is an old technology, or the full version was not fully implemented in the XMC-1 and why couldn't Emo have done the full version in their reasonably priced pre/pro and maybe even lowered that price. Or say, I would have been willing to pay $5,000 for the fully implemented TACT and why didn't Emo do this, even though that is not what Emo is all about. ;D There, I probably offended a lot of people but that's my story and I approve of it. ;D

^From my perspective it does not have to be better than xt32 but at least as good combined with a pre-pro that can deliver superior sound quality without it. That combination should make the XMC-1 a formidable competitor to anything else on the market.

Hi Dan, You mentioned in the same podcast that announced the latest XMC-1 that you would release a white paper on Tact. Is there any chance we could see that now? I'm sure many others looking to buy the XMC-1 would be interested too. Kind regards, Dave. I find nothing demanding or disrespectful to Emotiva in the OP. In some of the responding comments, you would think so! We are all curious about the XMC-1 and would like as much information as possible. Some of this information is necessary before making the purchase and some is just to satisfy the aforementioned curiosity about the product. I am on the list and will purchase the XMC-1 regardless of what additional info comes before release. The 30 day return policy makes this a safe approach. But, just as the OP said, it was stated that this information was to be available before release. As we get closer to that release, I bet it will be!

Its up to Emo to educate me why XMC's TACT is better than Audyssey's XT32 Now we finally get to it. So your plan is to compare Audessey's white paper to TacTs, correct? That will make or break your decision. Got it. BTW, can someone show me the X32 white paper? Google can't find it and the AVS guide doesn't count. ;D I have found sub placement tips white paper, a link to the optimal room white paper. (that one is funny since with an optimal room you wouldn't need this electronic bandaid), etc but no paper on how X32 picks its freqs, determines levels, etc. I would like to see that.

+1...LOL!
Also, to something else mentioned along the way in this thread, about having a 5-10 year old version of TacT...I am pretty sure that in one of the podcasts or a post that Dan or Lonnie mentioned that the version which will be in the XMC is new and unique to the XMC. So, it won't be old...exactly what it will be, we'll find out.
And - don't get me wrong - if a white paper does come out, I will give it a read for kicks. But, reading it won't make or break my purchase decision. My initial decision has already been made: I'm buying it UNLESS the early users report something that convinces me otherwise. And, as cfelliot says, I'll have the 30 day trial period to decide for myself.
Now, other than being a new version or knowing the version, "what specifically - in technical terms - would people want it to have and if it did not, that would break the deal on your purchase. To the contrary, what - in specific technical terms - could it have that would seal the deal for you"?
I'm not trying to be a pain here...just seeking to learn what I should really look for myself. So far, all I get from the responses is "make sure it's not old" and "technical curiosity to know more" and "want to make sure it's better than other options". If that's all...then, fine.
Mark

Mark You know the thing is, some people DO want to read the white paper and since Emotiva offered it then they have every right to ask about its status. What I hope doesn't happen is that the paper gets issued and then it degenerates into this long, drawn out thread that gets real technical and nitpicky in which people start criticizing what is there or isn't there and then talk about how this or that will affect the sound, and instead Emo should have done Y instead of X and this is a real deal breaker and don't they know any better... AND just as bad are those who will then proclaim, based on the white paper, that this implementation is the best thing since sliced (white) bread and how wonderful it should sound. In other words, people will already be telling us how the XMC-1 sounds before hearing it. ;D

Bill Well but in the LOL, (Land of Lounge) you can argue that the Patriots really won. LOL (laugh out loud). ;D I'm in the land where we don't even have a football team despite being the 2nd largest (I think) city in the nation.

Go Texans!! This year!!! ;D Since we are what we think, so is everything else so the XMC could end up being what I think it is based on the white paper. But what if the paper is blue or pink or red? The paper might be interesting read and it might be so technical that it doesn't make a bit of sense to me. I just want to listen to and play with the actual unit. I did that with an early UMC and was very disappointed. I don't plan on being disappointed with the XMC.....

I was wondering what could have gotten some folks so riled up for asking for something that was peromised. So, I took a look at my post #2 and saw my error and corrected it from: (You will... to Will you). Dan/Lonnie, I apologize. You owe me nothing and my original post seemed demanding. Peace! I don't need the white paper in order to make a buying decision. I don't know of any reasonable person who does. I was not aware of TacT until it was mentioned in the podcast as the RCS selected for the XMC-1, and for the 1st time to be implemented into a pre/pro. So, the XMC-1 will be a pioneer product of sorts. Therefore, I just wanted to read and titillate myself with the information. I would have bought the XMC-1 even if it had Emo-Q. I really don't want to get into a loyalty competition with anyone. My record on this forum speaks for itself

It's amazing how such an innocent question can turn into such a debate. I only asked for something that was offered to us.
