It even has "FROUT" inputs for 7.1 analog! I think FROUT is Klingon for FRONT. Based on that typo and the "Ethernet" oddly positioned directly under the USB Type A connector, I think the rear panel will undergo a labeling update before release. I really like the fact that they have a 7.1 input. Looks like they slipped in an AES/EBU digital input as well. Also the tiffany style pre-outs a very nice touch. I would be curious if bass management can be applied to the 7.1 input or is this a pure direct in/out. I noticed the AES/EBU input as well and I agree it's a nice touch. No doubt it'll mate perfectly with the ERC-2 or some other new product in the pipeline. I'd be surprised if the multichannel analog inputs are anything but a pure/direct mode, but we'll see. It would definitely be useful for some folks. As previously mentioned, the display panel is great. I love it. If the XMC-1 was C-3PO, it might say "I beg your pardon, but what do you mean...naked? My parts are showing? My goodness!" ;D

What's everyone make of the connector below the RJ-45? It looks like USB or eSATA, but it's lumped in with the "Ethernet" label? From the XMC-1 product page: 2 - USB Type A (front & rear). audio file player (supports FLAC/ AAC/ WAV/MP3)Since that is the only USB Type A input on the rear, that would be my guess. Good point, you're probably right.

I'd be surprised if the multichannel analog inputs are anything but a pure/direct mode, but we'll see. What would really be a great feature is if the XMC-1 could allow a choice between having bass mgmt applied to the 7.1 analog input or choosing a pure/direct mode. Now that would a nice feature.

I guess this means there won't be a surprise release of the XMC-1 at Emofest. There's no serial number on the back panel, leading me to believe it's a photo of an engineering sample rather than a production unit. I could be wrong, but it appears like we'll have to wait a little while longer to get our hands on them.

Curious to see that there is no indication of safety approval from an NRTL. "CE" is not applicable to US and/or Candian standards. Will the final units have this?

When this isssue about what "standards" Emotiva products have passed was asked about three years ago, Lonnie pointed out that CE was more stringent than those people were asking why Emotiva about. It can be time consuming and gets expensive submitting products for multiple certifications when many of them are redundant and of questionable value.

Why? Do you plan on buying Emotiva equipment to use in your workplace?

4 1/2 days and I'll be sittin in Dan's office :-) I hope :-) Well if you take into account the weather for Friday in Franklin, TN remnants of Hurricane Isaac will be lingering, so I hope you can camp out in Big Dan's office. ;D

I like the layout, bulky/heavy XLR connections and cables along the bottom, analog together on the left, digital in the center, most frequently used HDMI on top (not unusual but well done). Interesting to see the Zones labeled Z1 & Z2, I'm guessing what was "Mix" from the UMC is now Z1? And looks like not just Rec out but an actual tape loop (edit: that was in the spec sheet).
Maximum power consumption also seems very low - my Anthem AVM-30 was 140W, the UMC-1 doesn't list but implies 240W, the XMC-1 shows 40W! - probably due to no video processing, that's great.

Also pleased to see the XLR inputs have clips to stop cables being pulled out.
And the internal Ribbon cables look like good quality .1" pitch computer type connections not the crappy push in flat ribbons like they used in the UMC that seem to always give problems on the units I have fixed.

Yes, the XLR's and Tiffany's look nice, I too hope the other RCAs will be solid.
