Not that this has anything to do with anything....but I can tell you my Denon 3300 is a better built and better sounding unit than my Denon 2808ci for music. No HDMI/BluRay codecs though. So looking forward to the XMC-1 and moving into the dedicated pre/pro world.

At least where the Denon and Marantz AVRs are built on shared platforms within a particular price range, which is mostly the case for products under $1,000 and maybe up to $1,500 or so, they are built in the same factories in China and on the same assembly lines. Parts, given subtle brand differences, come from the same suppliers and bins. Production line workers are the same. These are contract factories where they do the Denon one day, Marantz the next, and something else the day after.
Given that, where the designs are as similar as they are the relative quality should be the same for both with the exception of an occasional product line error for a specific batch. That, however, would be random and not related to one brand being "better" than the other.

^ "The XMC-1 launch date is officially February 14th , 2014." Great! When does it ship? Probably the same date. Well, valetines day february 14, was not the right launch date after all: Big Dan's latest.

No disrespect here so please don't take it as such, but would you be giving your opinion if Dan didn't give us anything to go on at all? I'm just curious to know what those that are hard line stick to the "Exact Launch Date" people would think if Dan just announced a future product with no time line and just released them out of the blue when ready? I'm a pretty relaxed individual where if a preferred company of mine doesn't have what I "want" I move on to the next on my list. A couple of years ago, Emotiva didn't have what I was looking for subwoofer-wise, so I went with dual SVS's and haven't looked back and couldn't be happier. I'd also be curious to know if you had been waiting on an XMC-1 and just couldn't wait for one reason or another, what you ended up buying?

For some emotiva or "big dan" can do no wrong for others, he cant do anything right. Im sure the truth is somewhere in between. But common even the most die hard emo fan has to admit the inability for emotiva to actually make a self proclaimed launch date for the xmc1 is laughable.
I dont care what the reason is anymore. Whenever I see a new launch date I just cross my fingers and hope for the best.
Bottom line is there's nothing in the 2 grand price range for prepros That offer the promised performance of the xmc. So like many here ill keep drinking the koolaid while I wait for emotiva to accidently get one right

No disrespect taken, I was just answering bulletdoger's response that he was disappointed. I have a umc-1 and love it, and have been waiting patiently for several years for the xmc-1. My financial situation varies month to month, so the sooner the xmc-1 is available for purchase, the better chance I will have in actually being able to afford one. Seems every time I get some money saved for this thing, I have another big expense that depletes my savings to buy myself something nice. I know what your saying now, if I can't afford it I shouldn't be buying it. Unfortunately I have my heart set on this processor, and I probably should not buy it when it is available, but we all want things that we cant afford. As for your curiosity about having an exact launch date or just releasing out of the blue, it's a catch22 for me. I wouldn't want it either way. Me personally, I would like frequent updates on progress and I would be happy.

It would be interesting if we somehow had a way to know what the sale numbers would have been if Emotiva announced from the very the beginning that the XMC-1 would available for purchase Fall of 2012. This unit would be made in China with TACT room correction and a single 1.4 hdmi output. Sure TACT may have some firmware issues, but Emotiva hopes to resolve those with future firmware upgrades. But wait, there is more...
Emotiva plans to release the second generation of XMC-1 in the Fall of 2013, the Chinese built XMC-1.1 will include Dirac, the only sub $20K processor to offer this software package. However, because the unit will have include Dirac there will be a price increase to $1999. BUT WAIT! Don't call within those first 4 months and....
Place your order in March of 2014 and your XMC-1.2 will be made in Franklin, TN. The XMC-1.2 will use 2.0 hdmi boards and add a second HDMI output and second generation cosmetics. Price will remain at $1999.
I am curious if we all knew those dates and Emtoiva hit them all, how many of us would have ordered and at what point. I am sure there are some that would have bought each new version as they were released. I am sure there are some who would have bought the original and been 100% happy. I would fall under a third category. I wouldn't have bought anything and waited for the XMC-1.2... American made, dual 2.0 hdmi outputs and Dirac. Because I was always going to wait and hope for a XMC that shipped with the hdmi upgrade and dual outputs instead of an upgrade program, I am ok waiting until "XMC-1.2" is produced and shipped. But that is my personal situation. I could have just as easily been in the camp that wanted XMC-1, with TACT, one output, and been just as happy using it for the past 16 months.

It would be nice to see the XMC-1 released in the next few months. I've been waiting for it ever since I purchased the UMC-1. Can really use something that isn't as buggy as the UMC-1. If the initial reviews are positive I'll be finally upgrading from the UMC-1.

This saga is funny to watch. "We're upgrading the product that we didn't release previously which was an upgrade to the original product which we didn't release either."
Time to move on boys....
Yamaha Marantz Denon ....lots of other real products out there.....
If the XMC-1 (v.97 or whatever it will be by the time its released) comes out - I sincerely hope it is well beyond your very patient expectations. But I have my serious doubts that it won't be another buggy piece.

I had a non XMC related question for the Emotiva tech people, so I gave them a call.
In passing I asked the release date on the XMC-1 and he boldly proclaimed, Valentines Day!!! I laughed and said "That would be awesome, but we'll see." He actually got really pissy and said "As a matter of fact..you WILL see."
Yup...never would have thought. Before the Emotiva defense team jumps down my throat, I have owned several pieces of Emotiva equipment since 2005. I am VERY familiar with their delays.

Did you call Samsung, Toshiba and Martin Logan and asked them a similar question? By the way, did they announce to you a release date before their products were made available for sale? I only ask because I see their products featured in your sig. Emotiva should be judged in accordance with the offerings of other companies. Be well.

That's a good question. I would have waited for the dual hdmi outs. To me, the lack of them on a $2000 processor would be a deal breaker. I'm glad they waited and kept revising it although they should have held off on firm dates and stuck with something more general. That being said, since it's been so long I've managed to pick up a PT-7030 at a rediculous price so no longer need the XMC-1 haha. Of course that will change once I go 4k but who knows how long that will be. I really hope that the XMC works out for them though, they've had a bit of a steep learning curve up until this point. I refer to them as the Emo-praetorian guard. I think the enabling behavior of the guard makes it easier for the cycle of broken promises and failed expectations to continue. Many of us wish that all release dates be kept secret until the units are boxed and are ready to ship. The continuous misses and lapdog defenses don't help the brand one iota.

Dude, it's been like 6 years since I preordered it. It was still called the MMC-2 back then. Yes, other companies do commit to release dates from time to time. Not as often, but when they do the date isn't pushed back every 2 months and they don't commit to a new date constantly. It's not my fault that they are a company that loves to set launch dates to generate preorders. Maybe it is my fault for continuing to hope. I get mad beacause I have been waiting forever and passed on a ton of comparable processors. The original specs also had an awesome amount of HDMI in pits...like 12 or something. I missed out on True HD for years because I believed the hype. I finally picked up a UMC-1 to get the features I am looking for to hold me over. If I get my XMC-1 I could already fill it up with HDMI sources. I promise, I'm not trying to argue...just kind of tired of the games.

Let's try and keep the personal remarks to a minimum. You can be dissatisfied with the delays, but no need to call anyone names as a result.

I believe that Emotiva genuinely felt that they would be able to have the XMC-1 ready for sale by the various release dates. They are the only ones with time and money invested in the product, and the only ones who stand to lose materially by missing those dates. I also believe that every time a date was missed, Dan apologized and provided very good reasons why it happened. Maybe some of us have very rigid expectation and when it is not fulfilled, we become distraught and angry. I personally feel very grateful to Emotiva for allowing us to peek into their window to learn about upcoming new products and the progression up through completion. I hope that the flak that they are getting from the few regarding the delays concerning the XMC-1, does not cause them to withdraw this privilege.
