I travel to Canada often and these days do not bother with any currency conversion. US$ = CAD for all intents and purposes!

Lord, thas Onkyo looks pretty nice as an in betweener Its funny, I'll think about wanting or maybe purchasing something and then a few days later Rich is posting pictures of it in house. I was in the navy too, maybe I should have stayed in... Who's Rich? Seems we have something in common.

I actually just purchased the RX-Z11 a couple weeks ago. Build quality and feature set are top notch. There aren't many 11 channel receivers on the market so if this is the direction you wish to take your HT, I'd seriously consider it. For anyone else that is interested, NewEgg runs a Saturday special on this unit for $1,799.99 however last I heard they only had 7 units available. $1,500 is a really great deal. Yup, the Yamaha RX-Z11 (do you remember their add?). "Only .000000001% of the U.S. population will own one". ....................................... "Pity" ........................................

$1500 Canadian translates to what US? There are alot of good options you can get for $1500 US in terms of seperates pre/pro and amp section........... $1,500 Canadian is roughly equivalent to about $10 US.

My room mate was in the Navy and, he said the only thing he got out of it was a tattoo he can't stand. I served 12 years in the Navy (2nd platoon ST1) after a few shore leaves to Thailand, Japan and The Philippines I got a little more than a bad tattoo. ;D ;D What does it have to do with the Z11? ;D * Did you get laid?

$1500 Canadian translates to what US? Heck that's at least twenty bucks. Still too much, only half I'd say. ...You have to remember, we are a fourth-world country. We can't even afford to buy hockey sticks; lucky us we have some trees to make our own. Ice is no problem here; the only thing for us that remains to purchase is some pucks; but we have some good relations with the Russians.

Anyhoo, I did purchased the Yammy Z11 from my buddy, and only paid $10 US ($1,500 CDN) for it. I also own the Onkyos 906, 876 & 805! No kidding either. But I already gave the 805 to my brother on his birthday (March 3rd). And when I receive my XPA-2 and XPA-5, I will sell my 876.
Thank you so much all for your great humor, without it I would not have been able to make it.
...Now if only I can get a great deal on that Onkyo PR-SC886P pre/pro... *** Because, as you might already know, the 886 is the only Onkyo pre/pro that is Audyssey MultEQ Pro capable (with firmware update version 1.04 or higher). And if you know what that means (32 mic positions plus three Audyssey curves configurable and programmable and storable from a much better system and mic using a lap top computer), then it is WAYYYYY worth it. The 885, no way (NEVER). And the newer 5507, no way either (according to some sources from Onkyo, there is NO firmware update to support it, and this could be a permanent situation).
Besides that last one, everything's just fine on the waterfront.
Bob

Id flip it for a profit. Already have a 906? Better amp section. Both do have BurrBrown DAC's, the 906 has Reon VX chipset. Not sure what the Z11 has but Im pretty sure it doesnt have as nice a video section. The Z11 has alot of fluff in it. Id do as others suggest, sell it off for a profit, find a nice 886 or 5507 pre/pro, or even a UMC-1 when they get the last few bugs worked out and grab a UPA-7 to mate up with any of them.

The amp section from the Z11 is mucho better than the one in my 906 (much bigger power transformer, plus bigger caps, plus more heatsinks, plus other goodies). The Dacs are the same (DSD-1796 vs PCM-1796). The Audio from the Z11 is mucho better than in my 906. The Video from the Z11 is inferior to the one in my 906. My 906 has the HQV Reon V50. The Z11 has the ABT-1018, which has some flaws (does not pass BtB & WtW). Sell my Z11??? I don't think so. It sounds sooooo good (at least in 2-channel stereo, analog & digital). Beats my 906 significantly; on low level resolution, soundstage depth and width, microdynamics, and overall openess (spaciousness). And like I said in one of my prior post (did you read them?), I will get the 886 and mate it with my soon coming XPA-2 & XPA-5. After that, I'll see...

The Z11 uses an ie transformer with 11 powered channels. The Onkyo 906 uses a toroidal transformer(And actually its the same size you find in a UPA-7)which is more efficient and only powering 7 channels. The Onkyo uses a higher quality set of Toshiba output devices. The Yamaha uses a generic Korean off brand set. Secondary capacitance actually favors the Onkyo when you break it down per channel. Also if your using the analog inputs on the Onkyo for your audio ABing, then your not using the Onkyo's DACs at all. Do your AB comparing with digital coax or optical inputs, not the analog rca inputs. The one weakpoint of the 906 are the analog inputs. But if your bitstreaming out from your source into the 906 its a different animal. Hehe, and if your looking for an 886, you really already know what its basically capable of because the 906 is pretty much an 886 with a built in amp section minus a few bells and whistles.

Hehe, and if your looking for an 886, you really already know what its basically capable of because the 906 is pretty much an 886 with a built in amp section minus a few bells and whistles. The EI core transformer in the Z11 is the biggest one in the world. A Toroidal does not mean it's better. An EI core, if well done, is as efficient as a Toroidal. My 906 has only two 18,000 uF (75V) block capacitors. My Z11 has two 27,000 uF (75V) main block capacitors for the seven main channels, plus more block capacitors for the four presence channels, and other secondary caps, for a total of about 100,000 uF overall. My 906 uses a pair of complementary Toshiba transistors for each channel, mass picked. My Z11 uses hand picked transistors that are perfectly matched together for best performance. My Z11 is better equipped overall for filter capacitance, well matched transistors, extra high current into more channels (11), more DACS (seven instead of five for my 906). If I use the Analog inputs (including the Multichannel ones) from my 906, the audio signal passed through some digital processing (to the contrary of what people believe). And it is a fact that my Z11 sounds better from both Analog & Digital inputs. My 906 is simply not as much detailed and spacious. My Z11 is much more natural and better balanced across the full audio spectrum. Finally, the 886 sounds much better than my 906, because of all the separate preamp circuits. It is more open, suave, more resolved and better delineated, in both micro and macro dynamics. Remember, I've been at this for over 45 years, and always kept up with the very latest. * One thing these three components are missing, 3D capability. -> And you might try to convince me of the contrary, like you just tried here, but I have to tell you, it is futile. I am extremely confident in my findings, listening experiences, knowledge, and audio exchanges with some of the greatest in the industry. Best regards & good luck, Lord
