I read a thread a few weeks back about the UMC-1's inability to play multi channel PCM soundtracks, like the ones found on some Blurays. My understanding is that the UMC had no mode for playing multi-channel PCM without bypassing EQ and bass management. I haven't heard any updates on this issue lately, was this fixed in one of the previous FW updates? If not, has Emotiva addressed the problem at all?

So would this affect somebody if they were having their PS3 decode the HD tracks and sending out via PCM to the UMC?

Ironic that you ask this question. I just tested out the latest beta with the LPCM 5.1 track from "Underworld" and it appears to have reverted back to V5's handling, meaning pcm 2.0. I'm sure that Lonnie will again address this in the next firmware revision. Can someone else check any other LPCM 5.1 only blu-rays that they might have?

You say it reverted back to how it was in v5, how was it handled before, with first V6 FW? I own a UMC, but I'm not able to get it to send a video signal to my projector (seems to be a HDCP issue), so I cant check this myself at the moment.

Nothing from the rear surrounds or center, the only exception is DPLIIx.

Or are you saying that its always just output 2.0 for you. I wonder, has this issue been on any of Lonnie or Dan's list of bugs that are being addressed?

Has this ever come up in Lonnie or Dan's list of bugs? V6 had fixed this issue but the audio dropouts and what not lead to the beta, and now the beta is not producing all 5.1 channels. This is what I mean in that the beta is working like V5. I'd still like for anyone else to verify this with another LPCM 5.1 track.

What mode did you put the UMC in to get 5.1 PCM with the v6 FW? Anyways, I guess we can assume that its on their radar and will be worked out eventually... Just off the top of my head I know that 3:10 to Yuma and Kill Bill 1 & 2 are in multi PCM.

I own a UMC, but I'm not able to get it to send a video signal to my projector (seems to be a HDCP issue), so I cant check this myself at the moment. Try turning off "Deep Color" to see if that helps! That was the solution that worked for me on my projector: Sanyo PLV-Z2000 (on V5 IIRC) ... I still haven't tested this with the current beta to see if this is still a issue. (remodeling theater) Ironic that you ask this question. I am getting 5.1 PCM from my copy of Underworld on Blu-ray via a Samsung BD-P1590. (in PLIIx mode)

It doesn't really do anything yet, as it hasn't been implemented yet. I think it has turned into marketing BS. Just one more thing to list on a spec sheet. Although, I think some projectors might have it.

I did try turning deep color off, as someone else suggested that, but it was already default to off.
So did the v6 FW add a "multi PCM" mode? Because on the previous FW the only options you had for a mutli PCM input were Stereo, Direct ,DSP, PLIIx, and Neo6

Just to clarify: Forgive the rambling if it isn't useful...
My projector does feature Deep-Color support and this is still a problem for me with the beta firmware (I just watched a movie). It would be wise if Deep-Color wasn't defaulted to "on" as I'm sure I am not the only one affected by this. I believe the UMC-1 syncs up faster with it off (I could be wrong.)
My projector never had problems with Deep-Color supported players directly connected to it. My Samsung and Sony PS3 ( xvYCC color) worked fine this way. Maybe it's the projectors 20ft 1.3 HDMI cable?
Not that any of this matters because Deep-Color is a useless spec at the moment... and probably will be for some time to come. No Blu-ray discs are coded natively to support Deep-Color.
Something odd: I know Deep-Color isn't supported on HDMI 1.2a but I thought it was interesting how my Panasonic TH-50PX60U (1080P/60 inputted) has no troubles with the UMC-1's Deep-Color being left On but does when the players Deep-Color is enabled via player... and than we have my projector that supports Deep-Color spec but doesn't like the UMC-1 in the mix when Deep-Color is enabled. As it turns out this problem is due to a crap HDMI cable. The UMC-1 is actually allowing it to work better! I tired directly connecting the HDMI from the Samsung Blu-ray player to the Sanyo projector without the UMC-1 in the loop and all I got was pink screen @1080p/60... but it works in 1080p/24 mode (all but a couple Lionsgate and Sony titles) This very same cable appeared to work great (1080p/60) between my Pansonic plasma and Samsung player... odd At least with the UMC-1 I can still view 1080p/60 with only a couple pink sparkles... and a perfect picture at 1080p/24 (on most titles)... It looks like it is time to buy a better HDMI cable

Maybe someone with a better memory than mine can recall this, but I thought Lonnie recently posted that many BD Players are defaulted to down mix LPCM to 2 channels before sending it on to the UMC-1. Might this be the problem that some of you are encountering?
I also was trying to remember the discussion for "fixing" LPCM was to use PLIIx so that your post processing setting were active. My mind is a bit fuzzy at the moment... took my pain meds a while ago. Have you tried switching between the other modes (stereo, direct, etc) to see what the impact was.
One last thought, I have seen some BD discs with 5.1 LPCM that have menu settings for picking between 5.1 and 2.0 output. You might check what your disc is set to use. Maybe Lonnie, or someone with a clear mind, can chime in to clarify this issue. ;D

I placed the UMC-1 in "Direct" when watching the latest edition of Lord of the Rings 1 and 2 via PS3 Fat LPCM and I was very happy with the sound BTW: UMC-1 works with Deep Color on or off with my Epson 1080ub projector UMC-1 V 6, not beta updated

I feel like "Ronin1000" is stalking me haha.. Last time I posted about my UMC-1 not playing nice with my projector while Deep Color is enabled he posted roughly a hour after me.... and history repeats itself once more. How odd

I still find it odd that we have not heard if this issue will be fixed. People who have "Fat" PS3's should not have to watch all of their Blu Rays in Direct Mode and lose all post processing should they? And using DPLIIX does not seem to be an acceptable solution.
Should the UMC-1 not have a multi channel PCM mode that still utilize all post processing?
If this is never going to happen, I wish they just came out and said it.

LPCM tracks are uncompressed and lossless, playing them through PLIIx totally negates that by processing the crap out of the signal. Your not going to get the same sound quality. Direct on the other hand isn't an option because AFAIK you loose the UMC's bass management and EQ features. What we need is a "MULTI PCM" mode added specifically for this, that will play in 5.1 with bass management and EQ, but without all of the post processing you get with PLIIx or DSP modes. saginawjuggalo, That's weird that deep color was default to on with your UMC, mine was default to off with the v6 FW. BTW, I noticed your name, I'm from Midland!

If so, were you getting sound from it in Direct? I know that when your feeding the UMC an analog signal, if you put it in direct, it bypasses all EQ (so your sub would not be in use), but Im curious as to how is Direct handled with a digital input?
