I want the XDA-1 so bad. I check Emotiva's online store once a day to see if there is a pre-order button.

I'm quickly learning that there's no point in doing so. Take their delivery announcements with not a grain but a block of salt. I'm going to start browsing other DAC's for the hell of it. Hurry up Emotiva! You lost the sale of the amplifier to me by making me wait too long. It's too easy to wander and find alternatives. I figured I'd have one by now.

I was going to start with a UPA-2 until I discovered the ClassD audio amplifier kits that pretty much are audiophile giant killers. I'm probably joking about another DAC, I don't think there will be anything near it in price.
It's not the waiting, it's the lack of a definite date. Constant pushbacks are irritating for anyone.

This is Emo's big time malfunction, they tease products before they really know when they're going to be released, it demonstrates a lack of maturity for product development and marketing. Their brand has now become delays and firmware issues. I understand how hard it can be to not get excited and to want to keep your fan base pacified, but this is ridiculous.

That's all well and good, but the pre-order list is ALREADY STARTED, what difference does it make if they add new names to it. We were on the UMC list for years, what could possibly happen if they, open up the pre-order now? If they wait until the units are in, why bother to even have a pre-order.

Sounds like they just want to nail down all the production and transportation details before they (re)open the list.
I actually thinks it makes a lot of sense to do it this way. New product concepts can be announced/shared without a release date, allowing the community to give feedback during the development cycle. Once all details are hashed out, you can pre-ORDER, and at this time you can count on the unit being delivered within a certain timespan.

Maybe it's a question of semantics. Maybe 'preorder', actually means a 'reservation?'
Have you ever seen pictures of the shipment boats that come from China. They are HUGE, and most likely transport consumer goods for further distribution to WM.
Maybe 'live' means when the boat actually starts moving?

From a corporate image perspective it does crazy damage to the brand... you become known for your deficiencies rather than your positive attributes.... which doesn't do you any favors when trying to attract new customers. Aka none of us.

Jumping the gun on product release dates, not having a solid execution, et cetera... all leads to a lack of trust with potential new customers that the significant chunk of change they're about to laydown on a piece of gear is a better investment than anything else. I want emo to succeed, just not shoot themselves in the foot and stunt their growth.

I want emo to succeed, just not shoot themselves in the foot and stunt their growth. X2 I was shopping for a DAC in march when i saw that Emotiva was making one. Each time i told myself : "ok, stop waiting and buy one", a new hope for a date or specs where release here. First it thaught it was released in may, after it went to september, now we're in october with no sign of preorder, that means we're lucky if Santa drop one under the tree this Xmas. Maybe it's worth the wait, but if all this was clear, i would have a DAC (as good because it was not compare to anything ) since march. It's like a carrot in front of a horse, you say to yourself:" i'm gonna wait, it's comming soon" wait again, it's coming soon i feel it, wait again, etc.. It suck's to wait. but like everybody else, i cant feel it, it's close, so i'm gonna wait. And I know its been covered extensively but I would have a UMC in my cabinet right now if it weren't for the delays and firmware issues. At the same time, I'm waiting on the XMC and will buy one and will also buy the XDA (if... when....), because I know that emotiva is worth the wait. I just fear that Emotiva will become synonymous with delays and software issues and not the high quality stuff that we know, to the new customers who haven't had the pleasure of ownership. Maybe with the roll out of the pro-line things will be different but at this point I have no reason to be optimistic.
