Not worth the extra money they'd cost as far as I'm concerned.

If Emotiva came out with a separate component with 2 analog meters I would buy one. I think it would look good setting on top of my XPA-1s as long as they made it so the needles would move with 4 ohm speakers. Maybe putting switches to select which amp you have and then select the ohms of your speakers and match scales on the meter.

Or a 0db, -10db, -20db selector? Kind of like on my vintage Sony TA-2000F.

One of the main reasons I even looked at my Soundcraftsmen MA5002 was because of the nice VU meters!!! LOVE THEM !!
As gorgeous as the Emotiva gear is I would pay even more for a nice beefy stereo amp with some BIG BLUE LED LIT VU meters !!! mmmm....
really makes me wish I had heard of EMO when they had the RPA-2 amp!!! If they made that with even BIGGER VU meters I would SO buy it !!!

I think the RPA-2 looks so slick with the meters.. How did they come to the conclusion that the current LED meters on the XPA-1 and XPA-2 would be better?? Yup, Love it. Although they need to be a bit bigger to be useful. That was my main problem with the RPA-1 I owned. They also needed an x10 button on the back so we could see the meters move. My ears would bleed at a level where the needles are really active. Doug

I think the Denon POA-A1HDCI manages to pull of analog meters without looking cheesy. +10 I love the analog VU meters on my Denon XD

Ok, if you want meters, here they are. How much does the amp in the pic cost? Tip: it's integrated and 2 x 120 Watts Attachments:

Good call, indeed the type you name is that price. But this is the economy model with plane Jane AB. Costing less than 500 USD... Prices are without shipping. Just ordered a DURO class A 2*80 Watt poweramp for a pair of very sensitive speakers I will be building. No meters, no remote, no preamp, no phono. 777 USD incl shipping from Hong Kong. Less than 500 USD without shipping. We will see... You can order them from a NA supplier at twice the price.

I'll use my first official post to vote!
yes- I'd much prefer gauges, or just a clipping light.
the LED's remind my of something that belongs in a trans am. ;D

I concur!
"Mono-block amplifiers have typically been company flagships. They define the ultimate expression of a company's approach to design and construction."
"Our commitment to build quality, superior design and ultimate performance is reflected in every facet of the XPA-1."
Feedback:
- I, too, would also prefer a classy analog VU meter versus the LEDs of which I consider as a cheesy novelty on such a 'flagship' amp per say or just keep it simple with a clipping and fault indicator.
- I would also like to see a beefier chassis cover versus the current style cover that emulates the quality of cover on a mass produced big box store receiver.
- I would also prefer higher quality tiffany style RCA jacks.
- Last, a higher quality power button.
And, I would be willing to pay the associated upgrade costs toward the successor of the current Emotiva flagship amp.

i'm all for chassis beef up though when you factor shipping weight then some things have to be not thought of...
given the cost international shipping weight save have to be made... there is a fine line between production cost's and sale costs to the consumer...

One thing I would dearly like to see Emotiva implement is to have the Dimming circuit include the Power button. The Power button on my UMC-1 glows SOOOO brightly that it is distracting when the lights in the HT room are dimmed for viewing. PLEASE EMO, PLEASE.....!

Open it up and solder an 1k ohm resistor in place. They will never know you did it :-)

Please bring back analog VU meters. What say you forumites....? Please don't..... Big meters on amplifiers rule! They really do not...! I hate front panel meters. I do not ever want to own another amp with them. To each his own, but to me they are useless and distracting. Big +1 from here.... One thing I would dearly like to see Emotiva implement is to have the Dimming circuit include the Power button. PLEASE EMO, PLEASE.....! +1.... And when turned off, make the display turn on for a few seconds, when you use the remote.
