LOTR,
Thank you for your kind advice. I had been hoping to get a receiver (without fans) with a direct preamp mode ( with sufficient voltage ) to drive the LPA-1. The current 'preamp' a DMR-1, does a wonderful job except for that annoying noisy fan on startup ( takes about 5 -7 minutes to become as quiet as the other fan. (I have already sent it back to be replaced, the turnaround was excellent, but the problem resurfaced less than 3 weeks later! *Sigh*). I will try again with Emotiva to have them fix the issue....although shipping cost (granted one way) is higher than I like!
Again, Thank you LOTR and others who responded.

Lord Billy Bob Rob...........I stand corrected. Just opened up my 906, a pair of 18,000uf caps were staring right at me. One looked sad though. You sunnabaggun! ;D

TO LOTR I want to post a public apology to Bob concerning my previous posts about LOTR and the Onkyo TX-NR906, AVR. Although I received confirmation of my information directly from the person (who *bleep*in knows?) who answered the Onkyo phone, it was still incorrect. I could have called back and talked to the cute sounding receptionist(I bet she had a big "rack" ;D ) or a knowledgeable Integra/Onkyo rep and I did not. I had suspicions that this and other issues that LOTR had posted about where questionable but that is a different discussion and my posts were uncalled for. Bob, I was wrong and I'm sorry for my posts about this issue! As a side note and unrelated to the cap size issue, I had already decided to stop posting at the Lounge for personal reasons about the same time as the Emo AVR threads were progressing. Here is not the place to bring up insanity related issues. Just to say that I find my stress level at times getting too high. I have been harassed in PM's(or maybe it was those voices talking to me again?) by a few members over the last year or more, both as a know it all and as a member. Yes, I do take these seriously and they were completely inappropriate. Nothing was done by Admin to properly correct this situation IMO. I still appreciate Emotiva, their great products and the many fine folks here at the Lounge. I will continue to lurk here and look for information about my long awaited XPR-5. All The Best, Andrew PS: I worked long and hard on this public apology so please understand its 100% sincere to the full extent of the word and meaning! ;D Andrew, you are a great individual in my book. And like I said to you before you have a large baggage of knowledge, and a great sense of humor too. And a good sense of humor is one of the most important ingredient to live a happy life! I know that you are truly sincere and I totally accept your apology. You know Andrew, nobody's perfect, we are all human beings and we all make few little mistakes of any kind once in a while; it is part of us and it's totally normal. We certainly don't hurt anyone by doing so! We are not bad people like those ones who deliberately hurt others; killers, rapists, wife beaters, child molesters, and so on... As far as I'm concerned you will always be, like you are right now, very welcome to post whenever you wish to do so, as several people here at the Lounge benefit from your numerous great advices and sense of humor. You did NOT commit a criminal act! You are human just as I am and all are here! This ain't nothing, nothing at all! And you are my brother and I luv you very much so! I forgive you my brother, and I know deep down in my heart that it just reinforces you for the better! ...And for me that's all it truly counts! Your true brother & friend, Bob

Welcome back Chuckie er, um, Ntrain. ;D ...Yeah, him too I'd luv to have him back among us! ____________ * And Andrew, you'd better stick around! As you can see there are many people here that luv you very much! You are part of the Lounge and you will always be! And we all need a good dose of humor, E-V-E-R-Y S-I-N-G-L-E DAY of our life! .......

Now, to be a little more technical, I tought that this short Tutorial on Audyssey's proper mic positioning with a mic stand & boom, plus a mic thread adaptor would be quite welcome and educative. ------------------

Bob Thanks for this video as I now understand why my 3008 sounds so great as that is the exact way and boom set up I used to calibrate my MULTI EQ-XT32 Audyssey.

People need to invest in an Audiocontrol RTA is all I have to say. Lord Billy Bob, Rob, glad you actually got and took my "apology" the right way.

Lot of morons on the forum who look too deep into things with their ultra thin white collar skin and "holier than thou" morals and etiquette if you catch my drift.

Well as long as LOTR is answering so many questions ( and with great enthusiasm I might add ), I thought I would ask this question: LOTR, is the preamp voltage output on the newer Onkyo's or Denon's or heck the Pioneers sufficient to drive my LPA-1? Somewhere I read that the preamp voltage output is a measly 1 Volt which would not be sufficient. Thank you kind sir. ( Apologies for hijacking this thread [ kind of ] ) Hijacking an already hijacked thread? It's what the lounge is all about! The LPA-1 was designed with enough gain to even reach full power with just 1Volt. So virtually any AVR with preouts will work.

Thanks Bootman.
But with a gain of 29 dB a 1 volt preout voltage gives me about ~99watts yes? or am I that far off?

Thanks Bootman. But with a gain of 29 dB a 1 volt preout voltage gives me about ~99watts yes? or am I that far off? It depends of few things: how many millivolts are required from the input level to produce an output of 2.83 volts into an 8-ohm load, and that would finally indicate the overall gain in decibels. And into a 4-ohm load, depending of your loudspeakers. Anyway, you'll get the full power (Watts RMS) from the Preouts of the receiver because your LPA-1 needs only very little gain (voltage) to reach its full potential from its amplifiers. Does that sound right?

Yes, that will work for me LOTR. The only thing I would be worried about ( but am not as I am RMA'ing my DMR-1 ) would be about overtaxing the amp with such low preout voltage. Of course, if that fan becomes noisy again like it did last time, well, I will cross that bridge when I come to it.

Well Im getting closer. Right now, I think the Denon has the edge from its features. Heck, I may just flip a coin after all is said and done. The fact that the 4311's price has been coming down isnt hurting either.

Yup, on Features alone the Denon has the edge! ...That is specifically for the various parameter adjustments on the Audio side, and also the Ethernet features. * But on pure adrenaline guts, I'd say the Onkyo takes the lead! ..And its set of features ain't to shabby either. But it is indeed a question of what ticks each individual person. By flipping a coin you only get one flip side of it; and you won't know what the other side of it is.

Yeah, it would be nice to be able to A/B both receivers. I have just listened to Denon's sound for so dang long Im worried about jumping to another brand without being able to listen to it. I guess the longer I wait the better off I will be, but as the weather starts to warm up its putting me in the need of having to have another receiver to pump music to my backyard. I have never used EQ's and always leave my settings flat when it comes to sound. With all the hoopla going around about the new Audyssey XT being awesome by some and then less than fullfilling for others, Im just wondering if I am really going to use it, even with Movies. This makes me wonder If I should pick up a lessor model like the Denon 3311 and just concentrate on an outboard amp. Once again though, my speakers ares so sensitive that the noise floor and sonics are more important than shear power it produces.
