Saw Chuck Prophet last Tuesday Night at Space in Evanston IL. My first experience with Chuck and it was a really rowdy rock and roll show. Anthony D'Amato opened solo acoustic and he is a new singer songwriter with potential.

September 26 seeing Def Lepard, Tesla, and Styx . Seen DL plenty of times but really looking forward to Tesla. Then flying to L.A. the next day to see AC/DC at Dodger stadium on the last stop of their short north American tour. This is a bucket list item for me. Really, the only band that I have missed over the years that I need to see before they are done. Should be a fun couple days!

Saw Nicki Bluhm and the Gramblers last night at Schuba's Tavern in Chicago. Really good high energy show highlighting talented musicians. Here's a previous show I found on line if you have time to take a look.

Tickets tonight for Honeyhoney at Lincoln Hall in Chicago. Supposedly their new (3rd) album is more rock and less folk. We shall see. Here's a taste:

Heading to FitzGerald's in Chicago tonight for opening night of the American Music Festival. Acts I'm likely to see tonight include:
The Mississippi Mudpuppies, Lindi Ortega, Pokey LaFarge, and Tim Carroll. I've only seen Tim previously - here's a sample.

Went to a free show in Elk Grove Village, IL. last night....summer concert in the park series. 38 Special was the act and they were pretty good. Don Barnes is the only original member left but luckily he was the primary voice of most of their big hits so the band sounded as they should. Good show, pro set up and light show. Being in the park the sound was good except it was a windy night so the treble kept moving around a bit. When the wind was still we could hear pretty well. The price was right!

Had the opportunity to see Social Distortion last night on the 25th anniversary tour for the epic "Social Distortion" album that made their career. They played the album in it's entirety.  Opening for them were Drag The River and Nikki Lane. If you like rockin' Americana check out Nikki Lane. Watched from about the 8th row....and was just far enough right to miss the moshing! |

I saw Ghost in Detroit on October 2nd at the sold out show at the Majestic Theater. It was probably the best show I have even been to. Don't imagine there would be many fans here, but possibly. Left with a super nice 18" x 24" signed lithograph as well. It now hangs in my room in a frame along with my ticket stub.

Cheers Gary It is well worth a purchase! One of his best IMHO, on vinyl of course! My preference is for his "11-17-70" concert. Recording quality is not bad at all considering it is from 1970 and it is one energetic concert without all the fluff added.. just Elton, Nigel Olson and Dee Murray in a small setting (studio). Intimate, and with great material. |
