I just bought an XSP-1 Gen 2 off of Audiogon and the label on the shipping carton designates it as an 'XSP-1 FR'. I'm wondering if this designation refers to Factory Refurbished or if new units also include those letters; the seller said there were 3.5 years left on warranty, but that would not be the case if it were a refurb, correct?

Im thinking you are correct. id contact the seller and have him contact Emotiva to transfer warranty. At the same time get the serial number and a picture of any other documentation you can get. Monday morning Id contact Emotiva to find out for sure. Better safe then sorry. Good luck!

Generally on the factory refreshed gear, you get the 5 year warranty but you do not get the 30 day home trial.

Does the FR designate a refurb? (thank you) I would assume that it does but check with emotiva. I have a factory refreshed USP-1 and XPA-200. I just checked the USP-1 box and it has the words "factory refreshed" staped on one end of the box, I can't find the XPA-200 box, it's around here somewhere

But you should know the XPA-2 and XPA-3 are not fully balanced. So say I can buy another amp or 2.. which ones are? Oe whats best to bi amp these with? I've got a pair of xpa-1L runing the top of the polk audio lsim 705s and xpa-2 gen 1 runing the low end of the speakers in bi amp. xpa-1l gen 1 and 2, xpa-1 gen 1 and 2 , xpr-1 are fully balanced. best imo xpa-1 gen 2 due to class a. xpa-2 is very simiiar in sound signature. Basically it's a toss up. You may not notice a difference. Depends on your setup and subjective preferences. I personally feel the XPA-1 is the best of them in terms of the ability to portray the room dimensions and space. But the XPR-1 and XPR-2, XPR-1, and XPA-2 gen 2 are also winners. The XPA-1 L's are not quite as good when driving demanding speakers. Now granted they are competitive at their price point but I feel the larger power supplies in the XPA-1 give it an advantage allowing them to have more dynamic capabiliity to my Axiom m80s. Now that may be blasphemy for some. So let me reiterate that the XPA-1 L isn't a BAD amp. It's quite a good amp. (I like it). It just doesn't have the guts of the bigger amps. Also Emotiva has yet to make a bad amp. Now that's impressive.

Hell of a deal on monoblocks! Then 2 weeks later I was thinking that my xpa-2 was being wasted runing front wides and thought it might serve better bi amping the mains driving the low end. Free up the xpa-1l with them doing the high end only.. was thinking that this setup would be close to the xpa-1 with the combined power. So having also a balanced amp for the low end on the speaker would be noticeable? If I went with xpa-1s then I'd have no reason for the xpa-1ls. I'd have to get a great deal on a xpa-2 gen 2 to make it worth the while. Using the xpa-2 for the bi amp puts 4 channels on my denon reciever which I'm not too thrilled about. Was thinking I'd need a xpa-5 now for the 2 atmos ceiling and front wide speakers. Don't really have room for more amps. O ly thing I could do is replace the xpa-2 or xpa-3. Replace the xpa-3 with a 5 and be back where I started with just the atmos runing off the reciever. I prob could fit a xpa-100 under ea xpa-1l fir bi amping if needed. Wish I could do that with a xpa-1l heh. Not that buying more amps is feasible atm. :/

New member, first post. I expect delivery of a new XSP-1g2 tomorrow. Was considering spending more on a tubed model, but was swayed by the feature set and reported sound quality of this preamp. Also, it maybe makes more sense considering ancillary equipment, Klipschorns and an ST-70 Custom amp. In addition, the XSP-1's resistive ladder network appeals to me due to the high sensitivity of the Khorns. Anyone else opt for this over tubes?

I run my XPA-1L's full range from the XSP-1 which is also bass managing a 17" subwoofer in a 140 litre dual ported enclosure driven by an XPA-100, that's way more "guts" than I will ever need Cheers Gary

Which is strange. So I preferred one XPA-2 to a quad bi amped XPA-1 L setup. And the XPA-1 gen 2 over both those. Kind of crazy.

And the XPA-1 gen 2 over both those. Kind of crazy. Been dancing around this for a while, as previously posted I have the XSP-1 supplying the FL and FR speaker a full range signal and the subwoofer low pass is set to around 60hz. My FL and FR speakers are rated to 30 hz but they do start to roll of slightly at around 50 hz, so I'm using the subwoofer to supplement down to ~15 hz. With this set up I have absolutely no issue with bass, it's not overpowering, but there sure is plenty at any listening volume (midnight to party mode). Maybe my definition of "bass" (frequency wise) is different to yours, or maybe the fact that I'm using a subwoofer means that I don't experience what you did. For completeness, for movies the UMC-200 cross over for LFE is set to 80 hz. But I find for music, using the XSP-1 at 60 hz sounds more to my liking. Cheers Gary

Hello everyone, just wondering if it is possible to purchase the front side panels in black to replace the silver ones I have on my XSP Gen 1? I want it to match the DR2 I have just hooked into my system.
Thank you.
Cheers JL.

Hello all, quick silly question probably.
If I set the XSP-1 High Pass and Low Pass to full range, am I then able to still use sub woofers but set the cross over at the sub-woofer end? Or by setting the HP & LP to full range, the sub-woofer wont get a signal at all?
Cheers JL

Setting the switches to “full range” bypasses the bass management of the XSP-1 which, along with maintaining the fully balanced architecture, allows you to use the crossover at you subwoofer. Since the dials on the XSP-1 aren’t very intuitive or granular, this is exactly how I use mine.
