Shure, the Stax of headphones will most likely be over in the Ultrasone near the Marshall amps. BTW, be Shure and look for the bear Denon the ridge.

Just an FYI. That is the Music Direct price on their site. Not confirmed by Oppo. Mike

Sorry guys. When I said next few weeks I meant the page will be up and the reserve button will be available - (sorry again, I was confused!). I do not know when we expect to start shipping them. So the XSP-1 webpage with reserve button will be online any day now? Dan also said the XMC-1 reserve page would be up by Christmas (10/29 emocast) with the $799 reserve price and Holiday free shipping. w00t! w00t! .

Powered by my Emo amp... . If the BDP-95 is like most other Oppo players, it will have volume control built in, and if its your only source, you won't need the XSP-1.

I think the Oppo volume control causes a loss in fidelity at anything less then 100%. I would still use a preamp.

^^^^ Agreed, it's an issue and should remain at 100%. I plan to use other analog inputs on the XSP-1 as well.

Like a previous poster, I'd be interested in what, exactly, the upgrades will be in the XSP-1 over the USP-1, other than the balanced outputs. Since the XSP-1 will be twice the price of the USP-1, this would seem to suggest something other than just enhanced connectivity?

What kind of volume control does the XSP-1 have? It looks like it has a digital one (i.e. the unit has a display)... In that case, why should it be better than Oppos digital volune control on BDP-95?
I have a USP-1 and that unit has an analog volume control which is good sounding but quite difficult to handle by the remote (large 3dB jumps).

Looks to me like the same volume control as the USP-1: This is a 3RU chassis? Same as the MMC-1? Damn! I partly sold my wife on the USP-1 due to the slimmer profile! Oh well, got a year to pow-wow with my PR guy... ;D

I believe it is only the same knob as the USP but a totally different kind of actual volume control. I remember Lonnie saying way back when that it is a real hot rod chip that does the volume control.
Here is his quote from August last year:
"The volume control we are using in the XSP is a MUSES72320. This is a pure analog resister ladder which is individually addressable. Flat out to 100Khz, and will easily support 4vrms through it and it has a S/N right at 130db. This is one hot rod chip. ;D" He also said some similar things about how the tone controls are implemented around that time. Quote below:
"The XSP does have tone controls but if you want to disable them, you can. There is a direct switch which will completely bypass them. If you want to use them, they are really slick in my opinion. The way they work is there are switches that drop in different value resistors into the feedback circuit of the volume control to boost or cut the highs and lows. This is really a very complicated way to do it, but it is a very pure pathway and keeps everything in the analog realm."
The part I still cant figure out is why there is a reference dimple/led on the volume knob of the XSP because the knob is non motorized and the volume is adjustable via the remote per Lonnie. So in my mind the position of the knob won't really mean anything based on where the volume is actually adjusted to via the remote. The other thing I would really like to know is whether or not the tone controls are adjustable via the remote. Even though I don't have the funds ready for the XSP, I am dying to know all the official features and specs. I would think these have to finalized by now considering the last podcast has them "on the water" any time now.
Please Lonnie give up the goods :-)
