1.06.04 is the correct version. The 05 must be a typo. When I open my installer, it says v1.06.04 in the top right corner.

Actually, in the instruction PDF, it says, "You must have V10604 or V10605 of the installer installed on your computer to proceed."
So I guess it's not a typo. Either version will work.

Just make sure that you follow the instructions on the first post of this thread. It makes a big difference.

Thanks guys,
Do you guys recommend downloading and installing the USBXpress Device Driver 3.2.2 from Emonatics instead of the one accompanying the software from Emotiva?
Along with booting in SAFE MODE, couldn't hurt could it?

Yes, I downloaded the USBXpress driver from Emonatics a while back. Without it, I couldn't update the UMC. If I remember correctly, I would just get the "no device connected" every time. After downloading the driver, every update has gone smoothly.
Make sure that is the correct driver though, as I'm not sure. Maybe somebody else can confirm that.

I don't use safe mode, or do anything else special. However, like you said, it couldn't hurt. Some people can update without doing anything to their PC, and some people have to completely reconfigure their PC to get it to load lol.

OK,
I'm installing the Emotiva AVR upgrade V10604, I keep getting a message that the install has stopped working. The install has not installed yet but it takes a while after I open the EXECUTABLE (.exe) file to get the crash.
I'm pretty handy with computers and I don't believe it's anything I've done or doing.

Yeah, I can't even install the Emotiva AVR upgrade installer/application. It keeps telling me that it has stopped working and sometimes it takes a while for it to display the message.
I've tried installing it numerous times and have now just tried to install it while in SAFE MODE without any luck, it still just keeps on crashing.
Ideas?

I've called and Keith told me to try a few things, which I did. He said to email him back and he'd get me a newer version that might work. I'm waiting on the reply email with the software now. I can forward it to you if you'd like.

Anyways, I finally got it working on another laptop computer. I used the Emotiva instructions to update the firmware but got a OVERWRITE error right after step one. So I followed the instructions at the beginning of this thread and it worked FLAWLESSLY without any hiccups or problems.

This "Alternative" method is actually the way the upgrade was performed in the "early" days of the UMC-1. I don't remember at what point we started doing it the newer way (probably a newer loader), but I say if this method works better (and it obviously does), then this should be the "preferred" method and should be noted as such in the upgrade instructions.
This would go a long way for those who are newer to the UMC-1 and who were not previously exposed to this method and do not know that the UMC-1 is actually capable of writing and verifying the DSP code internally.
I'm convinced that a lot of the issues being reported, such as static and screwy EQ results, are the result of bad DSP flashes.
Kudos to sticknstones for "reviving" this method and information. Hopefully, anyone having issues will see this, but I do believe Emotiva Tech Support could also help the effort by getting some sort of "official suggestion" update out to the masses.

After upgrading firware to .19 I was not convinved that the SQ was equal to the .00 version, with the old firmware I was also unable to use HDMI audio due to a loud thump every time I would skip my dvr, this is now fixed, after using .19 for a bit I was getting some loud static burst every so often. Finally I came across this thread I decided to re-do the update using this method after a couple of day I can say that only this method should be used to update firmware, the static is gone and now I'm convince that the SQ is superior to the .00 update, Emo Q seem to render acceptable results also. Although the first update went ok, the second update using this method, not sure why, rendered much better results.

I may try the upgrade tonight, been waiting to see how everyone came out and it looks as though the .19 version just may do the trick.
I have always been scared to rerun EMO Q because when I first got my UMC and I tried to run it it hosed my unit and I had to send the unit in to get it fixed.
I will follow the instructions at the beginning of this thread, to me the sound quality now is great, from what I am reading in most cases this sound quality has gotten even better.
Keeping my fingers crossed that nothing goes wrong.

It would be very meaningful to find out how many of the people who have experienced problems with .19 are still having them after re-installing the update with this method.

Still no 7.1 for DTHD, and certain channels on DirecTV have no surround at all (like ABC's Once Upon a Time) while others I can listen to in full 7.1 (Like SyFy's Warehouse 13) using PLIIx......

What you are describing does not sound like a UMC-1 problem. It points directly at the source. Remember soon after the development of Dolby True HD and DTS-HD/MA, the user was not allowed to apply any post processing. That changed later. So it all depends on which audio mix was applied to the movie.

I can go back to the prior release right now and it would work, because I've done it.

Yeah there are a number of us who are reporting issues with PLIIx not properly overlaying Dolby trueHD 5.1 sources to 7.1. I've had the issue with Blurays. DTSHD 5.1 seems to work ok, but not when the mode says PLIIx. you have to set the mode to DTSHD and then it works. kinda opposite of how it used to work.
