This is actually the process I described in an earlier post I made the day the firmware was released. I explained that if you were receiving overtime errors you could proceed with the write in this manner.

Why does the volume skyrocket to 48?? Not sure what you're specifically referring to here, but I'm going to guess that you're referring to the volume "ramp up" that occurs when you power up from stand by. The volume ramp up will always stop at the point that the volume was at when the unit was last turned off. When you power on the unit for the very first time (or the first time after a factory reset), that point will be 48. No cause for alarm, just turn it down. Hope this helps.....

Crossovers set at 45 for both fronts and sub (only 2 channel set-up) and my sub won't trigger on even when DD 3/2+lfe is indicated. You are feeding rare frequencies (below 45Hz) to your sub so it might not trigger on due to your media contents. Of course you should also check your LFE output level if too low and in addition your master volume.

Thanks I'll play around starting with setting cross-over to 50hz as there both current set to default level on UMC, I've only set speaker setup and distance. Need to pull out mic and do a EQ

Need to pull out mic and do a EQ I have some of my mid-bass going to the sub so its crossover is set at 140hz and I have the B&W 802 mains where they are set at 40Hz.

Interesting SNS, if your fronts are set to 40hz, and sub set to 140hz than how could the sub play above 40 to 140? My assumption is below 40hz sound is directed to sub and nothing above, am I off in my thinking?

After this comment Ill move to another thread, but I m disappointed in the base of the new FW, my ultra sub won't trigger on, I'm watching a HD channel (fronts/sub is my system, front set at 45 same for sub) and even if I put the sub on then switch to auto mode it powers down. I have no base and notice the FW certainly improves the mid/upper-mid range. The UMC is set to DD 3/2+lfe is indicated. I think I'm going to switch back to my Hsu Research sub anyone want to buy a EMO Ultra 12, it less than 4 weeks old.

I keep mine at about 10:00 as you are looking at the sub from the rear - so below what you have. I've never had a problem with mine kicking in. If you turn it down, be sure to turn the sub volume up in your processor to compensate. This will throw a stronger signal to the Ultra and maybe solve your problem.

Greetings All, Finally had the opportunity to play with the Upgrade process. Kudos to Sticknstones, thank you for the effort. My experience with the UMC-1 has been positive overall. Frequent audio dropouts and occasional popping have been my only complaint. The update process was painless, Windows XP, plugged to AC with nothing disabled. As the DSP and Decoder progressed, I was inconsistent. Step1 Write and Step2 Verify elapsed without hard restarts. No overtime errors. Did the rear switch reboot and held my breath. Front face read Complete and I relaxed. NO audio dropouts, NO pops since. I'll attempt critical listening tomorrow and run EMOq. I have honestly not detected any significant improvement in SQ or Video at this point. My unit has been a solid performer over the Pioneer Elite since day one and has continued to slightly improve with every update. I will update post haste.

When you say you have the sub set to 45hz do you mean the subwoofer selection in the menu? If that is the case you should turn that up to at least 100hz or so. That settting affects the LFE signal and will help with 5.1 material to get more signal to the subs. As well as others suggested turn up the sub trim on the UMC and turn down the volume on the subs themselves. What is the trim set to? What are you using to level match the speakers? EMO-Q?

I thought I'd wade into this topic for the first time. I have a UMC with W7.04.00.00 firmware and have never tried an update. The Rice Krispies effect giving me snaps crackles and pops is driving me nuts so I thought I'd give a firmware update a try.
Is the sticky note just below this still a good place to start? It indicates that I need 1). AVR installer program, 2). 3 .upg files, and 3). a USB prinet cable A male to B male USB 2....is this still correct?
The sticky that mentions the procedure:http://emotivalounge.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=preamps&action=display&thread=12224 has a link with the .upg files, they are what I want?
I have not attempted this before because I'm not much of a tweaking guy, I like to set something up and not have to tweak it but the audio popping is getting ridiculous so I suppose I must give this a shot if it's the definitive FW update.
So start with the things mentioned in the other post and follow this tutorial?

However I would strongly recommend recording your current settings so you can re-enter them easily. Current setting will be reset during the update process. A useful sheet has been provided by Emotiva at emotiva.com/umc1.shtm. Another tip is to follow the directions to the letter. I usually print them out and check off each step as I complete it. Good luck and don't forget to post your experience here. Ask away if you have questions and the good folks here will do their utmost to help you along.

I just came from updating another members UMC-1 and had to use this method as the third step of the DSP load gave me a run time error. Reg's Alternative method is a definite success. I didn't have to use this on my UMC-1 update but now that I've done it on TBro49's UMC-1, I would probably use this on mine next time. Thanks Reg.
