Hey Mad Norseman, maybe I've got the solution to your L&R speaker positions. Next time she goes out with the girls for shopping, etc., get a couple friends over to help. Move the furniture out of the way and slide that carpet back away from the cabinet and speakers. Just a few inches maybe 4 should do it (almost up to the heat vent on the rear floor). Slide the speakers out 4" and that should do it. She'll never notice! She'll say, gee the speakers suddenly sound so much better, what did you do? It sounds just like a veil has been lifted! BTW, what a beautiful room!

BTW, what a beautiful room! Unfortunately that won't work because sliding the carpet will result in it being closer to the back wall, which she will notice. He's gonna have to cut 4" off the back of the carpet. That sure IS a beautiful room, though.. but the speakers aren't being given justice.

And then, you guys can come over and help me move out... But seriously, I'm working on her a little bit at a time. My next goal is to get the bass traps in place in the front L&R corners, then work on speaker placement! Little, by little... But thanks for the interest & suggestions!

For some reason I really found that diagram funny! Good luck norseman! Props on not putting the tv above fireplace I loved it too - that's why we keep chuckie around...:-D Mrs. Mad Norseman is actually VERY accomodating, most wives wouldn't agree to half of what I've already done to our living room! I still remember the day when she found me drilling holes in the rear corners of the oak flooring..."but honey! - gotta bring up those speaker cables for the surrounds SOMEWHERE, right?" Her reply was; "surrounds? - what are those?". Then the big HDTV, then the big floorstanders, then the second 12" subwoofer, and so on...she always eventually comes around. But you guys are right about pulling the front L&R speakers out a little bit more for better sound (it sounds WONDREFUL right now, but it can always be a little better, right?). So my current "project" is getting approval for the DIY bass traps I'm making (see other DIY thread) for each of the two front corners. Then we'll try and bring the fronts out a bit...then I duck, weave & hide some more (getting quicker now avoiding that swinging cast iron frying pan! ;-D), then all will (eventually) settle down and be okay...:-D

Tell her those are just marks left over from audio stuff you've removed. Brownie points ftw.

How do you get the black 4 legged bass trap to stay in place? Superglue to the paws? Cheers Gary

Problem is that they feel they deserve the best seat in the house.

Problem is that they feel they deserve the best seat in the house. How do those work there? I'm thinking of using some Totem Model 1 Sigs as surrounds and that's about how they would be placed.

They work great, although that is an older photo prior to raising them another 6", see system above. Corner loading almost acts as if adding a sub for the surrounds.

I recently completed adding full range wides across the front to replace some bookshelves on stands for my apartment setup. Unfortunately, when I recently put in the Blu-ray of Mission Imp: Ghost Protocol, I almost blew out the drivers of my right channel main & wide speakers trying to run them full range, so I've had to change the crossover point to 70hz to spare them future destruction. The picture attached is of the front soundfield and is actually two photos combined - so there is some odd angles and miscellaneous anomalies where they join together.

This is one of my favorite threads. I just love seeing how folks enjoy movies and music. Sig info is great, and it tells me the essentials, but there's no substitute for juicy pictures. Some of you guys have pretty amazing spaces. What we need is virtual reality so we can stop by for a visit. One of my first stops would be N8DOGG's HT. Thanks for the pics, guys!

Packed up my UPA-200 and XPA-5 for the sale of them both tomorrow, sad to see the XPA-5 on it's way out...had a few WTF am I doing moments but I'm sure the PA 7-150 will do fine driving 3 out of the 7 channels for the most part unless I have the outdoor speakers on then 5 out of 7. Little pic of them out and ready to be packed..... , and the XPA-2 has yet to find it's home in my rack and I'm needing to build a new better accommodating rack as well so it might be a bit.

At last........ ""My love has come along"! (He He) Oh gents, it's simply amazing the detail of the XPR2 and what it brings to your system---headroom, air around the music, details that I didn't think we're possible..... I'm blown away by the accuracy when married to Gallo reference amp. Big shout out to RLW, and thanks again for getting me on the right path. Custom cabinet on the way but couldn't wait to hear her sing.
