Are you ready for this? The XPR-5 is rated at 400 wpc into 8 ohms. The XPR-1 is rated at 1kw (1,000 wpc) into 8 ohms and 2Kw into 4 ohms. No other amp in the series was mentioned. They will be on sale in July 2012. Specs to be posted by or on July 2nd. They recommended 20A circuit but works o'k on 15A also ;D

I believe that while they did not specifically discuss its capabilities, they did mention the XPR-2 was coming (sounded like with the XPR-1) too. I think they said, "not far behind". Just going from memory here.

They mentioned, though, that it was shipping with a 20 amp power cord (one vertical, one horizontal blade on the plug). I wonder how many noobs are going to get one and then whine and complain that the plug is wrong on the power cord???

Any noobs who do not understand the difference must ship their XPR immediately to me. If you don't know the difference between a 15a and 20a outlet... you shouldn't be buying an amp like this (IMHO).

Lonnie and Dan did point that out in the podcast. I think it would be wise to mention the required plug type on the XPR-5 product page and manual. I mean make it stand out.
========== Notice: the XPR-5 is a powerful amplifier! For best performance and stability, it must be connected to a dedicated 20-amp circuit utilizing (plug type). ==========
Another option would be to include a close-up shot of the male power connector in the array of product images.

On another note, it's nice that Emotiva will ship both cords. I did not hear that they would be shipping both cords... only the one (but the other would be available). I might have misunderstood; wouldn't be the first time.

Ahhh... I just listened to the podcast
Sounds like they are shipping 20a plug only, needs a 20a outlet. Sounds like it really needs an outlet that can provide 20a.
So forget 15a discussion.
I imagine like previous amps, it can run happily on 220v.

On another note, it's nice that Emotiva will ship both cords. Just curious, where did you hear that? It wasn't mentioned in the podcast. Now, Dan did mention they run them on "normal outlets all the time."

Ah, no worries. In any case, the XPR-5 is gonna be one heck of an amp!

I agree... should be massive!
I'm glad to see an amp that isn't watered down (ie, lower VA xformer) for the masses..

So in Oz we have 240v and usually 10amp outlets with 15amp available if wired.
USA 115v x 20amp = 2300watts
AUS 240v x 10amp = 2400watts AUS 240v x 15amp = 3600watts
We should have plenty in reserve.
Dave.

Do we know how far the XPR-1 and XPR-2 are behind the XPR-5?

The podcast said that they were behind the XPR-5. How far, it was not stated. But it did sound to me like they were on the ship that left the port right after the one that had the XPR-5s ;D BTW, does anyone share my sinking feeling that the R-Series amps will not have a 7 channel sibling? And oh! If anyone wants to know why I would need a 400 wpc x 7 ACD @ 8 ohms amp? I really don't or will ever need one. But boy, do I like to have the bragging rights when it comes to power. It also rules out very clearly, that when the sound from my speakers are not right any longer, it is the speakers ALONE that needs a change. Otherwise, it just enhances testerone I guess ;D

Didn't someone already say that they weren't going to have a 7 channel version? Something about not being viable for running on home circuitry?

Depending on how crazy they go with the prices on these, I think I am going to go with: XPR-1 x 3 XPR-2 x 1
I run Revel F12 Full Range floorstanding speakers in the rear. I know people argue about not needing a ton of power, but in my experience, higher power just makes things so effortless amd dynamic. So when Lonnie said in the podcast that the XPRs "come to life like you cannot imagine" during an action scene (or something like that)...that's been my experience as well with high powered amps.
My backup plan if these XPR 1 & 2 are priced too high is to go with an XPR-5 or XPA-1 x 3 + XPA-2...

XPR-5 at 400w x 5? I think I may have just found my future amp! Now, do these have 32db gain like the XPA series do? Or maybe (better yet!) adjustable gain? (the best of both worlds). Because I'd like to know that I can drive it with my Yammy's pre-outs to full output you know...without having to turn it up to -0db to get to my usual listening levels! ...looking forward to seeing more detail on these, and the pricing... I have a dedicated 20Amp circuit/outlet I had put in for just this purpose, but if the XPR-5 is plugged into it can I also use it for one of my subwoofers, the Yammy, and source components too I wonder?

Wasn't today supposed to be the big day? (July 2)?
Don't see anything on the Emotiva.com site yet.
