The meters are logarithmic (I think) so they will jump pretty high even with sane volume levels. On some loud music and movie scenes the meters will get within 3-4 LEDs of maximum. So basically if the meters are showing 75% full that doesn't mean the amp is putting out 75% of maximum power. I remember reading that Dan said that the XPR meters were more sensitive than the XPA-1. I wonder how different the behavior is. I've always wondered if it was a log relationship or what.

Dumb question, but I'm going to ask anyway... You got a tracking number when it shipped, right? Should have estimated delivery date (which is rarely wrong) Yup. All day the link was reading "not found", or "not entered yet, check back later", or some such... But now tonight the link does show shipping/pick up, and an estimated delivery of 11/15 - so here we go!

Mine didn't return any results until a few hours after Fedex picked it up from Emotiva (ordered Fri night, shipped Monday). I'm sure you're glad to see progress!! Mine is due in tomorrow..

I sure hope that the XPR sales are meeting expectations, since it's a somewhat niche market. Hope the sales brings a bunch of additional purchases (heck, there are 3 of us here in the last few days)

I just got mine a few mins ago! Can't hook it up at the moment, but at least powered it on. The thing idles at an amazingly low 65-68 Watts (edit, if you let it warm up for a few hours, can get up to 95 or so). CRAZY. I was thinking it would sit there all nice and toasty (Darn it, can't use it as a space heater). The packaging (revised??) held up extremely well. Only some minor cracks in the top styrofoam, but otherwise held together extremely well. The box was unscathed except for one of the plastic handles starting to rip out of place. Will be a little time before being able to plug it in @ Home. Basement is a wee bit wet at the moment thanks to the washing machine draining onto the floor (weee!) At least I plugged in my iPhone with an adapter to watch the meters blink! Definitely more sensitive -- considering the headphone out on an iPhone is rather limited.

The box.. In great shape other than the handle that looks like it got a little abused. Attachments:

The packaging -- looks good! Seems to be very modular, with a number of smaller pieces of styrofoam, and a couple blocks of the traditional foam stuff. Even though the styrofoam is supposed to be better for shipping, I wish that it was more reusable. It's going to crack some during shipping which means that it has a very limited life. I noticed that the all the corner molded pieces cracked some - even if they held together. I guess if that's my biggest complaint, that's pretty good! Attachments:

Awkward picture as the amp is sitting on 2 chairs right now.. I never thought that the new look would look as good as it does. My first gut reaction when I first saw pictures wasn't that good, but I positively love how it looks! Attachments:

Great news, Jim! So glad to hear it arrived safe and sound. The last podcast indicated that Emotiva invested into a new process/procedure for shipping the XPR series amplifiers. This was in response to the issues reported after the new amps started shipping. From what I've heard/seen, the new materials are working properly. Love the pics! That is sure one beautiful amp!

Hope the sales brings a bunch of additional purchases (heck, there are 3 of us here in the last few days) I suspect that its not really that well known about yet (the XPR amp series). I'd like to see a review of it in Home Theater magazine, or Sound & Vision. But have no doubts that it will do the job better than almost anything else! Jim, thanks for posting those photos too - always good to see the actual excited receiption and unboxing!

Yeah, I recall an older post from Dan and recall hearing him mention that they were going to address the packaging problems. I just thought others would be interested to see that the new packaging seems to work! I knew Emotiva would fix it, but shipping 100lb safely takes some work! The cardboard inner box is THICK!

I was curious and had access to an IR thermometer, and sitting there (idle), it's only 10-15 degrees warmer than ambient (20 degrees or so if you're measuring the channel modules). Barely even warm to the touch. No doubt, gets warm when cranked, but impressive that it stays cool with that much horsepower under the hood.

I was thinking it would sit there all nice and toasty (Darn it, can't use it as a space heater). But isn't consuming '65 to 68' watts while just plugged in and 'idling' kind of a lot? I mean most AVRs (even high powered ones) will consume only a watt or so while plugged in and on standby. Or maybe I'm misunderstanding you?

Or maybe I'm misunderstanding you? I think the 65 to 68 watts refers to the amplifier being ON, but not pushing any signal. It's not in Standby, it's just idling ON. Considering the XPR-5 has massive power output capabilities, even those figures aren't bad IMO. I think the optimized Class H power supply could play in here regarding efficiency.

Or maybe I'm misunderstanding you? In standby, it's 0-1 watts, just about nothing (same for UPA-7 and XPA-1). My Onkyo 886 (preamp only), I'm not sure in standby what it uses. While on/idle it's at least 77 Watts. While on/idle, numbers I've measured are about 60W for UPA-7, 57W for XPA-1. So when I say idle, I mean ON (blue lights)with no signal. If that makes sense!

Say Jim! - Does the XPR-5 come with a 3.5mm to 3.5mm trigger cable??? If so, how long? I don't see that Emo sells those separately?, but I'm gonna need one about 4 feet long (1 meter would probably be fine too).
Mine is due tomorrow, but it needs to come by mid-morning, or after mid-afternoon or I'll have to wait for Friday! (I checked FedEx's website and there's now where to contact them and arrange a day for delivery if you're not home...).
