Who wants to help lug my XPR out to my car now? Only if we can take it to my place for a while. ;D Mine is due tomorrow, but it needs to come by mid-morning, or after mid-afternoon or I'll have to wait for Friday! (I checked FedEx's website and there's now where to contact them and arrange a day for delivery if you're not home...). On all the Emo shipments I've received, there is a place on the tracking page called "Hold at FedEx Location." From here, you can redirect the shipment to a FedEx office or other facility for pickup. I do this with all of my Emo gear since FedEx always delivers when I'm not home. All that's required for pick up is a photo ID and your name. I've never had any trouble and can always pick it up on the original delivery date. Just wanted to mention it as another possibility.

It DOES come with a trigger cable, I can't remember how long. I'll dig it out and measure it later tonight.
I've done the "Hold At FedEx Location" thing (for my XPA-1 repair shipment to me), and had it held at a FedEx office about a half mile away... Worked really well.. Definitely much better than trying to arrange a delivery date.. or driving to the distribution center that's 30-40 mins away.
I'm so glad that I bought a hand truck a while back. Great investment!! I never thought my hobbies would involve moving heavy subs, amps and servers!

Much easier than trying to work our work schedules around. Plus my FedEX location is open 24hrs so that makes it even more convenient. Btw, ditto on the trigger cable. A little over 6ft long.

3.5mm Trigger cable: My unscientific measurement is about 6.5 feet long Thanks for checking! If about 6.5', then it sounds like its probably a '2 meter' cable then... (I think its great Emo includes this so we don't have to pick one up!). As to delivery, I was hoping a scheduled delivery could be arranged instead of having to go and pick it up. I'll check the link again in the morning and see if there's an esitmated time given...

Okay, the XPR-5 is here! Mrs. Mad Norseman signed for it about 11am this morning ("gee, that's big!"), and I came home to find two Emo boxes in the foyer. She said two FedEx guys carried it in...slowly... Haven't opened them up yet, (in the other box is a CMX-2), but tonight I will open 'em up and take some photos. BTW - the boxes both look great, no crushed corners, holes, or torn handles, etc., so what's inside should be good! More later!

WOOHOO!! ;D ;D Glad to hear it landed safely. It's always a bit nerve racking wondering if your beloved gear will arrive undamaged. Can't wait for you to fire it up.

I'm going to pull it all the way out and plug it in tomorrow to make sure everything lights up properly, but in the box from above it looks perfect! I had TWO dedicated 20 Amp circuits installed a couple months ago - each running to a separate 20 Amp duplex outlet, so no problems there. Got the CMX-2 also, just to be sure...already checked with Emo's sales dept. to make sure there were no 'limitations' imposed on the XPR-5 by plugging it in with the CMX-2 between it and the wall outlet. (They said, no limitations at all, and in fact endorsed doing just that). Whoo - what a THICK power cord this monster comes with too! Also got the 6.5' 3.5mm trigger cable, but haven't seen any manual yet - unless that's underneath the beast, if so I'll get it Saturday...

I know you can plug a 20a (NEMA 5-20) plug into the CMX-2 & CMX-6, but they are only rated @15amps. Are we sure that these won't limit a power amplifier where a 20a circuit is recommended/required? I invested in a Furman power conditioner with a 20 amp rating, just because of the 15 amp rating of the CMX-2 & CMX-6. www.furmansound.com/product.php?div=01&id=PL-PRODMC

The CMX-2 will not limit the incoming current to 15 amps if it is plugged into a 20 amp circuit. You will be able to connect the CMX-2 to NEMA 5-20R outlet (this is the same style plug that is found on the CMX-2 ). This will allow you to plug the XPR-5 into the CMX-2 and get the full benefit of both devices. If you have any further questions please let us know. Thank you for your kind consideration". So, I'd say we're 'good to go!'

And the next, this thing is double boxed, and with hefty Styrofoam packaging throughout. Just a few cracks in the lower/front corners of the Styrofoam but that's it. Most of the weight of this monster seems to be toward the front(?). Attachments:

And the last photo for today...lifted it out (as assited by an amazed Mrs. Mad Norseman and daughter No.1) onto a cart, daughter's 'Insane Pink Care Bear' posing with the new electronics for 'atmoshere'! (BTW - anyone else LOVE the smell of new electronics???). After this photo was taken I wheeled it over to one of the new 20Amp outlets, plugged it in. The little red light above the standby button lit up. Good! Then next I hit the rear switch to on, and (after a fairly loud 'click' sound), all five channel's LEDs lit up red top to bottom for a moment and then instantly went to all blue at the bottom with the two side accent lights also blue. All is well apparently! (I haven't peeled the protective clear plastic off the faceplate yet). It turned off again with another 'click' similar to the one heard when turned on...I assume this in normal? So, boxed it back up and will now wait for the cabinet and surround processor to join it in January before final hook up. Attachments:

I must admit the clear plastic covering remains on my faceplate as well.

I must admit the clear plastic covering remains on my faceplate as well. That's funny. Mine is still there too, Until I get it mounted in the rack and feel like it's secure.

All is well apparently! Yep, the clicks are normal. I imagine it's a relay of some kind, perhaps for the primary transformer. Any Emo amp I've ever owned has had that familiar click. I love the accent lights, they boldly say "I'm not just another boring amp!" Love the pink carebear by the way!! I left my amp idling for a couple days and the new electronics smell is gone now........ Much like a new car smell evaporating

It's bad when your only goal for the evening is to get the XPR-5 in the rack... And I can say SUCCESS, I managed to install it on some rails by myself without getting killed

Cut and paste from the Product Page, "Load (total for all outlets):
15 amps continuous precision magnetic circuit breaker allows for short-term inrush current of up to 250% of rated load." This means that you will be able to accommodate the XPR Series power amps as long as you are not running the amplifiers continuously at extreme volume levels. Typical use would permit unfettered usage of the XPR-5 in most residential HT systems.
