I wonder if we should create an XPR power discussion thread to keep all the information in the same thread?

Great pics, norseman!! And the last photo for today...lifted it out (as assited by an amazed Mrs. Mad Norseman and daughter No.1) onto a cart, daughter's 'Insane Pink Care Bear' posing with the new electronics for 'atmoshere'! This is my favorite shot. That amp is a monster! (BTW - anyone else LOVE the smell of new electronics???). +1. Like I mentioned in my XPA-200 review, I just love that new amp smell, although the other Emo electronics have a similar whiff about them. Maybe that's part of the reason I love buying new gear! ;D So, boxed it back up and will now wait for the cabinet and surround processor to join it in January before final hook up. Sorry if I missed this before, which surround processor are you getting? Just curious.

For a surround processor, I'm now about 90% sure it will be the new Marantz AV8801 that's due for release this December (next month). Its got everything I need (Aud. XT32, etc.),. My fallback position is the AV7701, but I'm really going for the AV8801.
We're also having a cabinet to hold it built (ventilated) which won't be ready until mid-January, so that's where the 2 month delay is really coming from. But knowing prospective release dates for electronics, the AV8801 might not actually be released in December either - we'll see! (Mrs. Mad Norseman is designing the cabinets...she did this with our center piece unit last year that holds the 65" Panny and also a few hundred Blu-rays. I'm really lucky she's as tolerant of my hobby as she is!).

I wonder if we should create an XPR power discussion thread to keep all the information in the same thread? Easy, don't arc weld with it and you should be fine.

When it all eventually comes together I'll post some photos of the whole HT/(Living room) set up under the other thread titled: "what does your room look like with your emo gear?" under the "HT" section. Maybe by then I'll have figured out how to download photos from 'Flicker' so I won't have to post them one at a time. Nahhh, who am I kidding?! I'll probably never figure out THAT part!

I know you can plug a 20a (NEMA 5-20) plug into the CMX-2 & CMX-6, but they are only rated @15amps. Are we sure that these won't limit a power amplifier where a 20a circuit is recommended/required? I invested in a Furman power conditioner with a 20 amp rating, just because of the 15 amp rating of the CMX-2 & CMX-6. www.furmansound.com/product.php?div=01&id=PL-PRODMCThe CMX-2/CMX-6 will allow you to plug a NEMA 5-20 plug into any of their AC outlets, but keep in mind that they have a built-in circuit breaker designed for 15A circuits, not 20 amps. Cut and paste from the Product Page, "Load (total for all outlets):
15 amps continuous precision magnetic circuit breaker allows for short-term inrush current of up to 250% of rated load." This means that you will be able to accommodate the XPR Series power amps as long as you are not running the amplifiers continuously at extreme volume levels. Typical use would permit unfettered usage of the XPR-5 in most residential HT systems. Delay is inherent to all breaker designs. But the amount of delay in relation to the amount of overload differs. For audio, we benefit from "slow" breakers. For whet rooms, fast is better!. A short moderate overload will not fry the wires, which is what counts...

I didn't get a chance to even listen to anything on my XPR-5 until last Sunday. I'm using it to power the midranges of my LCRs right now (LCRs are using MiniDSPs for crossover). SWEEEEEET. More power than I need, but isn't that the point?

So what's the deal? How does this badboy perform? Any reviews, feedback, observations, warnings?? Reviews: I love it! I have an Active xover setup, so my configuration isn't normal. The XPR-5 has tons of power, even when it's being pushed. Let's see... Observations......... Pretty energy efficient when idle.... Love the faceplate and the buttons........ Warnings: It's heavy!!!! I'm happy to answer particular questions... I can't think of what else to say right now. It's a very well built, solid, well performing amp.

Keep an eye on Audioholics for the XPR-1 I hope it's a *real* review.. not a preview or summary type thing.

I may eventually lay in an XPR-2 as well and go to 7 channel. Gotta get the Marantz AV8801 in house first, and then pair the XPR-5 with that and write up a big review/first impressions thing on that "marriage" for the forum.
My cabinet builder is being slow though, so it might be the first half of February now (sigh), ah well, its definitely coming anyway!

OK folks, I just got my first Emotiva product on Friday. I unboxed it, and now, finally got it connected. I have to say. This is one of the best built and best looking amplfiers I've seen. And at first thought a really great sound. I'm looking forward to many hours of listening and watching. This is the first major purchase of audio equipment that I have made without in audition or even seen. I have to admit that I was nervous. NOT ANY MORE. Thank you to the crew at Emotiva. You did good. More to come on sound quality later.
