Official Oppo 103/105 Discussion thread

I received my 103 this morning after I called FedEx and had the driver meet me before he started his day. The two FedEx drivers in my area are the best ! I setup the 103 in about 15 minutes and I'm happy to say it is a nice improvement over the 83SE.

The build quality as always is great with a much better and quieter disc loader/draw than the 83SE. I played a bunch of MCH SACDs and they all sounded excellent. I did a quick comparison between HDMI (w/Audyssey XT32) and the 5.1 analog output. The 5.1 analog output sounded great but I much prefer the SQ with XT32.

The loading speed for the one Bluray I tried (The Island) was very quick much faster than the 83SE. At this time I do not do any streaming so I can't offer any information on that performance. I also like the fact that the 103 does not have a fan. The fan on the 83SE would come on every now and then which was audible from where I sit.

So I think anyone looking for a well built and feature packed universal player should definitely consider the 103 .

According to some grumbling over at AVS, DSD only works on the HDMI 2 output, at least that's what I gathered from the conversation. So if you wanted best quality video (HDMI 1), and DSD (HDMI 2), you had to run two cables - again what I gleaned while looking for something else.

I received my Oppo Bdp-103 yesterday and it is better than I expected.The sound using HDMI is great maybe a bit warmer than the 93 and it is the Fastest player I have had in My system.This player reads BluRays so fast it makes one smile and say YEA!!!.The player sounds great for the Hi Def Movies and Music as the 7 Ch Movies lite up the Theater room.My Harmony 880 is all set up as I just had to update the OPTION button as all other commmands are in the 103 data base.I had the 93 for 2.5 years and thought it was the Balls but the 103 is one step above and the Video also seems more vibrant in 1080P.Please if you are on the fence about buying this player JUMP OVER it IS that GOOD.Just ask Bil MAC as he also received his 103 and has done some Analog testing.

I need your feedback on 2 things in particular about the 103:

1. I have a large DVD collection. How is the upconversion to 1080p. Does it surpass the 93?

2. Does either of the hdmi inputs allow you to use the 103 as a DAC. I use my computer to send down loaded music via hdmi to the UMC-1 for DAC. I am hoping that one of the hdmi inputs of the 103 allows for this feature.

Yes the DVD upconversion is as good or better than the 93 as Oppo worked on this feature.I am not sure about the using it for a DAC on the 103 but the 105 has that option.If you purchase the 103 you will love the player.

Thanks Bud ! Yes the 103 has been getting a serious dose of SACDs and DVD-As. I almost forgot it plays Blurays ;D. I'm already looking at the prices of Panasonic GT60 plasmas. I have to get with it and get the proper size plasma as the 50" with 720p is just wrong .

Cancel that. Confirmed. Hdmi from pc to input of oppo. Oppo analog out to analog in of umc. Only oddity that I found was I think that the oppo sends audio from both the hdmi and analog out at the same time. I did not play with the oppo audio adjustments yet to see if I can use the oppos xover and time correction yet.

hello i get my 103 on Tuesday Oct. 9 th. I am just wondering if anyone who has the 103 are using a Darby Darblet with the 103. I have a Darblet and it worked great with the 93 and hope it does the same with the 103.

You will love the video on the Panny with the 103.My Pioneer picture is Fantastic with 103 using 1080P .The DVD upconversion is stunning.
