Does it upcovert the hdmi inputs the same way as it does dvd's? I do believe that when say a 720p or a 1080i signal from a cable/SAT box is input it is upconverted to 1080p if your display will support that. But it might best if you posted this question in the "Official OPPO BDP-103 Owner's Thread" over at AVS. Or you could call Oppo directly. I haven't tried any of the 103 HDMI inputs but hope to this weekend. Bill

Thanks guys. Just thinking it would be cool to watch some of the sd channels on our dtv box in "higher" definition.

Spent months trying to decide on the 93 or 95, decided on the 93 only to discover the 103 & 105 are being released (so glad I took a while to decide ) But now 103 or 105? - really I'd be happy with the 103, but given you can use these as a DAC and I've been waiting for the XDA-2 to come along, maybe I could skip the XDA-2 and those $ go to 105 with its Sabre's instead. Decisions decisions! I do get more time than think about it, as the Aussie version won't be available for a while still

If you will be using the analog outputs then I can see going for the 105. But to buy the 105 for the digital inputs then to use the digital outputs of the 105 is a waste IMO. Bill

Placed my order last night for the 103. It will be my first Oppo. I had one of the first DVD-A players (Toshiba SD-9200), but haven't had it hooked up in years, so I can't wait to dust off the old disks. Have some newer ones to try out too (Beatles Love, New Skynyrd, etc). Looking forward to seeing how this player compares to the PS3 for Blu-Ray, etc.
Probably the biggest draws for me DVD-A and SACD playback, and the HDMI inputs. Hopefully it improves the picture on my satellite DVR. Seems like the new players will be the perfect compliment to the XMC-1!

I love the Love album in any format but the DVD-A shows another creative layer of the Martin's brilliant work, and it even sounds good on my decrepit old BDP-93.

I was at a new Bestbuy yesterday here in San Antonio and I went into their new Magnolia HT section and found out they are selling Oppo Blu Ray players. They are the 93 & 95 models. The new 103 & 105 they do not have in the store yet.

I think that the 103/105 is a milestone in BRPs. The way that Oppo configured the HDMI outs is ingenious. Being able to use the 103/105 excellent DACs for other sources is unheard of. This forces me to get the 103 before I consider any other BRP including the 95 & the 105. Even if ther 95 was offered at the price of the 103, I'd go for the 103. The 103 is a "I've absolutely got to have it" component ;D

With the inputs, you can use 1 input as a DAC for other sources. No other BRP offers this flexibility. I'm estatic

I'm estatic Dual HDMI outputs are not that rare on BR players today. But the 103 is the only one currently available that I know of that has dual HDMI inputs. Of course the 105 will as well when it is released. I wonder if the 103 and the 105 will push other BR manufacturers to offer HDMI inputs? On second thought probably not . Bill

It is not the matter of having dual HDMI outputs. It is how those outputs can be configured. The HDMI inputs speaks for themselves. This is a first for BRPs possibly. I can now evaluate whether the TV or the Oppo does the better job of up-rezzing non 1080p video and have the choice of using the better of the 2. As the engineer from Oppo explained, you can connect a set top box to the 103/105 inputs and take advantage of the excellent video & audio processing they provide. My one minor concern was regarding connections using USB 2.0. The engineer talked about using the 105 as a high-end DAC but did not mention the 103. My guess is that both players function alike, but I would like that to be clarified. Can anyone enlighten me here? Much thanx ;D

Really . I have the player and I'm well aware of how it works. Those that own the 103 and those that have read up on the 103 are well aware of the capabilities of the HDMI inputs. Again nothing new here. You could go to the Oppo site and peruse the 103's manual. If you do not find your answers in the manual give Oppo a call. You could also ask your questions over at the AVS forum in the 103 owners thread which is linked in the first post in this thread. In that thread there are a number of beta testers that are very knowledgeable on the many features of the 103. The information is there just for the asking but sometimes it takes a little effort on ones part to find . The 105 has additional digital inputs while the 103 only has the two HDMI inputs. The 105 will have better DACs than the 103 which is common knowledge. So that is why the 105 can be used as a "high-end" DAC due to the better DACs. The 103 can still be used as a DAC due to the HDMI inputs but for some not to the level of the 105. Now whether many have a "high-end" system to be able to take advantage of the better DACs is another story. Unless one plans on using a player like the 105 in an all analog system it is not worth the added $700 cost IMO. Bill

To test I did hdmi in. And used the analog section of the oppo . Sounded great. sent from my phone. sorry for the short response. Tony

I've been too busy playing SACDs and DVD-As ;D. But I'll have to take the time to try my cable box through the 103. Overall what are your thoughts of the 103? Bill

Just exactly what has Oppo done to the BDP-103's outputs to optimize HDMI #1 output for video and HDMI #2 output for audio? How is this any different than the BDP-93? Besides an update to the QDEO video processor for 4k upconversion, what is it doing to optimize the video? What exactly is the HDMI #2 output doing to optimize the uncompressed 0's and 1's of the LPCM/DTS-HD MA/DolbyTrueHD tracks? Has Oppo found a way to make uncompressed tracks sound better on their BDP-103 than all other blu-ray players on the market including their 83/93/and 95?
