I just want to mention that my 103 was having lip-sync issues on some (not all) movies. I contacted Oppo customer service and they sent me a BETA update that not only fixed the issue, but added some more apps to the HOME screen. Netflix, Vudu, Cinema Now and "something"Films. I'm confident that Hulu+ and other goodies will soon be in the mix as well in the near future. If I can get Mog, I would retire... What a great customer service company. And what an outstanding product! Jim, Thanks for posting your thoughts on the new beta FW. Were you having lip sync issues when watching blurays and DVDs or when using one of the HDMI inputs? I ask as I haven't had any lip sync issues with any movies I have watched but I haven't tried the HDMI inputs. I agree 100% that Oppo is an outstanding company with excellent players . Bill

Bill- Using HDMI 1 output to the UMC-1, I had issues with Minority Report and Hell Boy II. Bourne Legacy played fine as did others....so it was not on every BD that I tried. With the BETA update, I have not had any issues with any BD (including the afore mentioned). Today Oppo has released a remote app for Android and Apple devices. It just keeps getting better. I am very impressed with the folk at Oppo....I think I might be a FANBOY!!

I've ordered the 105 and should be receiving it today or tomorrow. This is my first Oppo product and I'm very excited about it after the various things I've read here and on other forums. I almost got the 95 a year ago, but was waiting for the new model and hoping it would implement the fine DACs for exterior digital music sources as that is how I listen to most of my music.
Believe me, I've been very happy with all the Emotiva products I've been using, and I think they are the best products around for what they cost...nothing comes close. But this seems like a no brainer if it performs as everyone says. The reports are that the 2-channel & 7.1 channel through the unit's DACs are fabulous. And to think this one product, for $1200, will replace my ERC-1, USP-1, XDA-1,& UMC-1 along with giving me balanced outs for my 2 channel, a world class Blue-Ray player, an SACD player, and controlled by my iPad! Wow!
I realize it won't be a perfect replacement for some of the conveniences & tweeks that the UMC-1 & USP-1 allow. But if it does most of it and I get a sonic upgrade too.....what a deal!
If it does as reported, I'll be as big an OPPO fanboy as I am an EMO fanboy.

Just so you are all aware. Oppo released another SW update last night for the 103 and 105. That which was BETA is now made official.
These guys are on the ball!
The whole process of updating is so fast and smooth (under a minute for mine). If the XMC-1 can update this effortlessly via the internet, it would be a remarkable leap in technology over the cumbersome updating of the UMC series.

The XMC-1 will require a flash drive (with a file copied to it) inserted in the USB port, better than the UMCs, but not as good as a network update like the Oppo.

Just ordered a 103 based on the excellent input I've read here to replace an old Samsung that continuously has issues loading disks. Main hope is that the WAF is much improved with regards to speed and the interface. At this point any improvements to video/audio will be secondary. Mine will be used 90% HT and 10% Music. Much of both will be streaming.

Anyone know for sure if the volume in the oppo 103/105 or 95 for that matter is lossless like the xda-2 or lossy like the xda-1??? There is no loss or compression on the oppo digital volume.

Anyone know if they are working on a fix for the harmony remote where you can set the input on the oppo for an activity.
I am familiar and am using the input coding that has been updated but as far as I can tell you cant set up a new activity and have that activity ask for an input on the oppo.
Discrete power on and off would be nice too. As I play around my oppo keeps turning off since it only has a power toggle command.
I just downloaded the actual software for the harmony and I think you can use that to correctly set up an activity but the software was horrible compared to the web version and you can't use all the setting you've already programmed! The remote gets completely erased when you use the software version.

I just got my Oppo 105 a few days ago and I am very impressed so far with the sound quality. I am using the Emotiva UMC-200 as my preamp and it works great with the 7.1 inputs. SACD and DVD Audio are excellent along with regular 2channel cds.
I had a Oppo 93 which sounded very nice to me but the 105 with the Sabre dacs makes a definite difference. Everything just sounds more open and detailed. Some Oppo 105 owners have talked about breakin time for their unit but mine sounds excellent so far with a fews days of use. I may not be an audiophile but I know what sounds good to me and really like what I am hearing.

I rented a couple of BR's from Redbox today. First one (Deadfall) played fine. Next up was Skyfall but after starting it up, it stops 7 seconds into the disc. After checking all my settings and flipping a few back and fourth it still stops 7 seconds in.
I tried several BR's from my collection and all play flawlessly so I assumed it to be the Skyfall disc itself. I went to another Redbox location and rented the same title again. Same exact scenario, 7 seconds in and nothing.
Anyone else experience this or have a clue what's going on here..........I'm going nuts!

Fixed it with some help on AVS. Cleared persistent storage and rebooted. All good now.

Excuse me if this has been covered earlier, but my set of questions I have is only concerning using the BDP-105 as a DAC via USB with a laptop for both stored music and music streaming. I have been struggling with the options of the BDP-103+DAC vs the BDP-105. My questions about the USB on the 105 are:
1) Is the USB Asynchronous? 2) Is it 24/96, 24/196, etc.? 3) Are there any limitations in using the 105's DACs by an external device such as a computer vs using an outboard DAC? 4) Has anyone compared computer audio with an external DAC vs the 105's DAC? 5) There is a wave of newer DACs that are out and continue coming out with the capability to decode DSD like the Teac UD-501, Mytek Stereo 192 DSD DAC, etc. Will using the 105's USB DAC allow it to decode DSD from a computer? If no, has anyone heard if there are any future firmware updates the will allow this? 6) Is jitter control on the 105's USB as good as on most asynchronous DACs?
Thanks,
Devlon

I can answer a few of your questions...
1) Is the USB Asynchronous?
Yes.
2) Is it 24/96, 24/196, etc.?
Up to 24/192.
3) Are there any limitations in using the 105's DACs by an external device such as a computer vs using an outboard DAC?
What kind of limitations?
4) Has anyone compared computer audio with an external DAC vs the 105's DAC?
Several online reviews have - the OPPO is a stellar performer.
Not supported at this time. No info available from OPPO.
6) Is jitter control on the 105's USB as good as on most asynchronous DACs?
Yes, per online reviews.
I can tell you that my BDP-95 is an amazing piece of equipment. I haven't had a single issue, nor been left wanting anything other than the ability to use it as a stand-alone DAC, as the BDP-105 can. Personally, if I were buying today, I would go for the BDP-105 over a BDP-103+DAC. It is a neat and clean single unit solution with virtually unparalleled performance. However, another option is a BDP-103 and an Emotiva XDA-2. That would save a little money and the performance difference would pretty much be inaudible to most people.
Of course, audio is always a personal choice.

Thanks Cory, you've spent some time answering here, and I really appreciate it! Thanks too for that link Tasdom.
Cory, on 3) above, Im' not sure which limitations? Already, I see one thing now and that is that DSD is not supported at this time by Oppo. I'm not sure if there are other things I just have not thought of asking about. I have to think about DSD thing though for a bit and decide how important that is going to be to me especially as more and more DSD offerings become available. SACD's are just such a treat to listen to and the fact that there are companies now offering DSD via download is exciting. This is rapidly growing area of computer music as seen by, if nothing else, the increasing pace of DACs being made with DSD capability Reading the testimonies of those who have heard PCM vs DSD is not helping me any with my decision either, lol! Thanks again!
