So the title pretty much says it all, however. Dan and I were discussing various options, sizes, features, price points and such and I thought it would be interesting to get some feedback from all of you. Here is your chance to be part of the development processes. Tell me what would be your ideal sub. Is it ported or sealed? What size? How much power? What type of finish? Features and such. Last but certainly not least, how much? (please keep it realistic ) So be part of the process and let us know. Thanks Lonnie

Thanks for the opportunity to partake in this, Lonnie!
Ok, I'll start:
Is it ported or sealed? Sealed What size? About 15" cuboid How much power? At least 1000W peak What type of finish? Matt black. May of us place it at the front of the theater.. Features and such. Play down to 20 Hz and EQ. Prefer front firing maybe with reflex rear (but not down firing) Last but certainly not least, how much? Hmm... I'd pay up to $1k for a decent sub
YMMV...

I agree with hemster's specs. This is basically identical to my Paradigm Seismic 12, but at a significantly lower price point. While I got mine used at $800, typical new cost is around $1500-1800. If you could provide the same quality of performance, compactness, and finish at under $1K, you would be a market leader for HT subs.

Is it ported or sealed? SEALED What size? 12" How much power? 500W or appropriate What type of finish? Optional veneers would be awesome but balck will do Features and such. Prefer front firing down to 25hz? DSP/EQ - could take it or leave it Last but certainly not least, how much? (please keep it realistic ) 700-900

Is it ported or sealed? Sealed What size? High performance 15" driver with greater than 30mm x-max How much power? Enough based on enclosure size - 1-1.5KW would be nice - outboard amp option to drive multiples would be really cool. What type of finish? satin black Features and such. - Parametric EQ, stackable for multiples, Last but certainly not least, how much? $750 passive single + $450 amp = $1200 target price. $2K package price for duals with an outboard amp. $3K for a quad pack with amplification would be killer

Wow! This is great Lonnie! Like hemster said, thanks for providing customers with the opportunity for feedback. Although I am not in the market for a subwoofer (I'm quite pleased with mine), I will be following this thread with interest. Finally, a product from Emotiva that I don't need.

Ha! ;D
I'd better go bury my credit cards, just in case the "need" comes knocking one day.

I would prefer sealed, front firing, either 12 or 15 inch high excursion, 1200 watts peak power or so. Price for 12" - $1000.00; 15 " -$1350.

Is it ported or sealed? - Sealed What size? 2x12 or 1x15 How much power? 600 - 1200 watts What type of finish? matte Features and such. external with DSP or just offer your internal plate amp for sale. If no DSP -- Then it needs at a minimum - Subsonic filter, xover, 1 eq band, polarity dial (not switch) and High level inputs. Last but certainly not least, how much? 5-600 to keep competitive with SVsound and HSU

Is it ported or sealed? SEALED
What size? 12"
Ideally a single passive enclosure, with an outboard amp capable of driving and managing 2 different subs.
How much power? Here, I will leave it to the engineers to figure out how much the speakers need.
What type of finish? Satin black - like the XREFs. Maybe some wood veneers as an add on.
Features and such. - If the XMC-1's base management can do all the DSP/PEQ etc, then nothing else. I'd like it to happily go flat from 20hz up to 50 or 60hz.
Last but certainly not least, how much? (please keep it realistic )
For me, I'd hope to be around $400 per enclosure and $300 for the amp, $400 for the amp+dsp. (I'm basing this off of the XRef 12).

Subs should be great for music, quality of sound above quantity of SPL. Important is the "speed" of the bass for good integration with main speakers.
Is it ported or sealed? Sealed What size? 15" How much power? >500 What type of finish? Black Features and such. flat to 20Hz, passive sub with external amp (one amp for two subs), prefer down firing, may be DSP can be omitted because most of the HT systems have all sorts of bass correction Last but certainly not least, how much? 800 - 999

Reading through the posts so far, I'm surprised that the respondents would be willing to spend so much on a sub when numerous ID retailers sell for far less. Also, many of the proposed price points are significantly above the X-Ref. Just an observation.

Seems like a lot of people would be content with the xref 12 based on posts so far. I would prefer a 15" x-ref type with 1000W, the option of a passive enclosure for 400 less. I am not sure how you could possibly get good output to 20Hz with anything less then a 15" if it were in fact sealed.

Is it ported or sealed? Sealed (but 20Hz @-3db and up to 200Hz @-5db) What size? 12" Single, 15" Single, 15" Opposite Side Firing Dipole. How much power? 500-1000w per driver What type of finish? Black (matte or piano) Features and such: Servo Sub, Musical + LFE capable, Good results mated with Magnepan 1.7s & MMG/MMG-W/MMG-C Last but certainly not least, how much? (please keep it realistic ) $1000-$1500 www.rythmikaudio.com/F25.html has Frequency Response 14 - 90 Hz (-2 dB @ 14 Hz) ) which is good low end extension, but not enough high end. Or assume 3 subs, 2 for front stereo use(20-200Hz), 1 for rear LFE use(10-100Hz).
