I don't care how it measures. I care how it sounds. When I first got my XPR-2, I didn't much like the thing. It sounded too laid-back for me. Now that I've owned it for awhile, both I and the amp have changed. The amp now opens a three-dimensional sounding window in my living room that the musicians appear in. I don't find the amp to be laid-back sounding at all - just smooth & rich.
It is my (unsupported) belief that the amplifier has a significantly better sound when warmed up for an hour or two before playing AND that my ears have adjusted somewhat to ignore the originally perceived weaknesses of the amplifier in favor of appreciating its significant strengths.
I originally thought of returning the amplifier. Now, I wouldn't dream of selling it.
My two cents...

Boomzilla I listened to B'zilla's amplifier and yes the XPR-2 is indeed a special amp Also very surprising it definitely pumps out heat which indicates a generous class A bias.

As soon as I got home from work I was going to post pretty much the same things! What is really interesting to me is I finally started to love Cymbals again. With my previous amps Parasound Halo, Cambridge, and Anthem, Cymbals were always harsh to me. Granted these aren't the highest of high end, but a lot of people love these amps and came highly recommend for the price. Boom-- are you getting a pair of XPR-1s, did I hear that right?

Nope - I'm sticking with the amp I've got.

I just had a listening session with the Weather Report, "Black Market" album. Joe Zawinul and Wayne Shorter had Chester Thompson, Alex Acuna, Narada Michael Walden and Don Alias on Drums and Percussion depending on the session. Bottom line, a lot of hard hitting cymbals. A long time ago I stop listening to this album because it all sounded like shattering cheap glass. The recording was issued in1976. I never thought the recording was done that well and shelved it. After reading this thread and the somewhat hard to understand Swedish study (because of translation) it reminded me of this album. The heavy hitting cymbals sounded like, well, cymbals with my XPR-1s in the mix. I know I'm not comparing anything instantly to the XPR -1s, all I know is I can listen to this album again. For $2600.00 on sale vs $20,000.00 I'll just say thank you Emotiva!
