"geebo" one of our Lounge regulars has one of these. Maybe he'll stop by and chime in!

Anyone familiar with this pre amp?Or is it old news? Pretty much a USP-1 with balanced inputs and outputs, defeat-able tone controls, and no bass management. It also shares a home theater bypass with it's Emotiva sibling. I've been very happy with mine and it's quite simply a steal at $179.00! I use it with an XDA-2 for two channel listening and it sounds wonderful.

How is the volume control compared to the USP-1? I'll order one tomorrow! I was waiting for the XPS-1 phono preamp, bit this is a no brainer.

I think it's the same as the one on the USP-1 which is to say it can be a bit touchy but certainly useable. I have an XDA-2 connected to mine and use it's outstanding volume control and leave the Pre-1 around 11:00.

I've never used the phono preamp but a number of members here have used the one on the USP-1 and seem to be happy with it. Maybe someone else can help to answer that one.

It will not match my Emo gear but that's a small price to pay! I guess I should go and order new XLR cables. Will they make a difference. Phono RCA to Pre -1 to XLR toXPA-1L to speakers? Or just go straight RCA.

Or just go straight RCA. I like the XLR mainly because they're more robust and secure. With short runs a good quality RCA will perform just as well, however. But your XPA-1Ls are fully balanced so there may be a benefit to you there. Someone that know more about that will have to chime in.

What a deal. Xsp-1 can wait. Fully balanced but I would need some xpa-1's too. Maybe the xps-1 for the main system with the umc-1?

Since you will not be fully balanced from source to speaker, then either will serve you well. I REALLY wish I had the extra cash to pick one of these up. I don't even need one, but mate with your fave 2 ch. amp and a pair of MMGs and you have a pretty killer system for little $$$. Would be an excellent system to get you started with separates or as a secondary system... I am DYING over here!!! LOL!

With short runs a good quality RCA will perform just as well I'm up to 5 metres (~16 feet in the old money) and I still can't tell any difference between XLA and RCA's. Is that still a short run? Cheers Gary

Thanks so much, I'll spend the next few months saving money for my EMO habit. Congrats on the wallet drain! Its not so bad compared to my buddy who lists after Bryston gear only. $2800 bucks on a used preamp. And a cool $1000 for his used dac. Chasing the name! But man is his room live! Drywall and laminate flooring. The echo lasts forever ever ever ever er er.

Is the pre-1 fully balanced like the xsp-1? 2. Is the volume knob as touchy as the usp-1? It seems like an incredible deal
