It doesn't have controls for any players just the for the PRE-1 itself, a great remote though, prob my favorite Emotiva/Sherbourn remote and still aluminum but more ergonomic That's one good-looking remote! It reminds me of the remote for the DC-1.

If I get a stealth would I plug it into the Pre-1? Are you talking about a Stealth DAC (DC-1) or a Stealth monitor? If the former, you can use the balanced (or unbalanced) CD inputs on the PRE-1. The RCA-based AUX inputs on the PRE-1 can also work. If the latter, you'll need XLR cables to connect the PRE-1 to the Stealth monitors (the monitors don't have RCA inputs).

Short run, long run, it's all relative. How "electrically noisy" your environment is can have a bearing as well. Let's see, what's in my Zone 3 (garage) ; mig welder linisher angle grinder air compressor die grinder pedestal drill rattle gun, drill and a few more battery power tools air conditioner dust extractor band saw 2kw of halogen lights fixed parts washer plus a portable high pressure washer The RCA's from the UMC-200 for Zone 3 are around 20 metres (60 feet). I'd consider that a long run with plenty of electrical noise. Cheers Gary Wow! You run all that stuff while listening to music? I wouldn't even be able to hear the music let alone the affect a cable may or may not have.

Also, does it need to be powered on in order to utilize the HT by-pass? And if the answer is yes, how are the lights on the front, bright? Can they be dimmed/turned off? Can any chime in regarding my HT by-pass questions? Thx.

Can any chime in regarding my HT by-pass questions? Thx. The Pre-1 must be on to use HT bypass and you will have two small blue LEDs lit. They are not dimmable or turn-offable(?) and I guess I would say they are of average LED brightness. Not unlike the status LEDs on the XPA series of amps.

ok, lets see if I have this. DAC to Pre-1 cd input? rite? If you want to use XLR cables then yes, DC-1 XLR out to XLR CD input. Or you can use RCA from the DC-1 to the to the PRE-1. The CD input is switchable from XLR to RCA inputs and the RCA are the Tiffany style as on the DC-1.

Pre-1 does not do bass management? Am i correct ? Correct. It lacks the bass management of the USP-1 and adds defeatable tone controls and XLR connectors. It does have home theater bypass however.

Thanks but Ill be spinning vinyl as well Speaking of which. I'll be using my Pre-1 primarily as a Phono Preamp. I've been waiting patiently for the XPS-1. When I saw this deal I started thinking. An internal power supply and balanced outputs to my PT-7030, which does have bass management. The built in headphone amp is just a bonus. Maybe the phono stage of the Pre-1 isn't as good as the XPS-1 will be, but I bet it will be close enough for me. And I won't have to stuff it, and its power supply, behind my equipment rack, hanging by its wires.

Yes, that is one way to do it. If you want to utilize the balanced outputs of the DC-1, you'll need to use the PRE-1's CD input which has both XLR and RCA connections. Otherwise, any of the PRE-1's standard RCA inputs will be fine. Use the phono input for your turntable.

Thanks but Ill be spinning vinyl as well In your case, I think the USP-1 or even the XSP-1 would be a better fit for your needs. If your budget allows, I would suggest the XSP-1 will optimize the analog audio performance to your wildest dreams. Think about unrivaled flexibility and control providing the ultimate performance for your enjoyment.

My guess is that the PRE-1 phono stage is very similar (if not identical) to the USP-1 phono stage, and I've heard good reports about it. I was considering the PRE-1 for just this reason. After further consideration, I decided to stick with my original plan of the XPS-1. The XPS-1 should be a nice, compact preamp, and I can connect it directly to my UMC-1 (and later XMC-1). If I really like vinyl, I may upgrade to the XSP-1 later on for the Full Monty.

You guys must have got in on the deal just in time. I looked about 20 minutes after I got the email from Emotiva about the Sherbourn sale and merger and that preamp was already marked as unavailable on their site. Really sad I missed picking one up.
